Mircosoft should give up on a digital gaming distribution platform and just pay steam money to not distribute games on OSX. That would be better for everyone (except apple "gamers", but no one cares about them)

Okay, I admit - I may be a bit drunk while I'm typing this, but - what the hell was that about? Looks terrifying, but I don't understand their plan, really...

I don't see how anyone can be afraid that the future might turn out like that. Knowing Microsoft's threshold in PC gaming as it is anyway.
Well, yeah... Microsoft's current influence over PC gaming makes their predictions on the future of PC gaming as valid as the crazy guy on the street corner shouting at the traffic that the CIA have uploaded Angry Birds to his tracking chip.

CAPTCHA: valid iingsdin... well, that's good to know.

O wonder!

How many goodly downloadable content are there here! How beauteous the interface is! O brave new world! That has such stupid avatars in it!
Very nice job there.

Looks like Microsoft is finally getting back into the race, it's trying really hard to catch up to EA and Activision.

Goddamn breeze for me.

You must be doing it wrong.
I do everything they ask me to do to get my orders in, and to date I've been screwed out of $100 by them. Orders went through fine, but it still won't let me install the game and demands that I purchase a second copy to play. I had a similar problem when I bought Dawn of War II, which only worked through Steam, but it wanted me to buy an online copy to actually play it.
That's what Steam Support and Proof of Purchases are for.

Steam easily matches Apple in customer support.

See, the problem that I see is that this is trying to appeal to the Casual crowd, but the casual crowd already has things like Facebook and whatnot to play the games that they've showcased.

STEAM may have some "casual" titles in its store, but it is clearly a "hardcore" gaming platform. This...this is just trying to fill a niche that's already been filled by the social networks.

And I see Microsoft is still trying to push Bitch, It aiN't Google :D

"My avatar... represents my style, attitude, and character."

Yes it does. That's why I've used, in various forums:

A Shalka from Doctor Who: Scream of the Shalka.
Max Headroom.
Max Headroom and a Shalka.
A pentagram.
A Hermitage Lesser Vampire fighting a STRAIN Demon Lord. (I was big into Doom mods for a long time.)
A photoshop of the default forum avatar doing something silly.
A Tetris game made of badges. Which later had silly little scenes playing.

Wait, avatars are bland, samey looking humans? How does that represent ANYTHING unique? Look at this forum - how many of our avatars, that we've chosen for ourselves to represent some aspect of ourselves, are human? Hell, how many are humanOID?

The only phrases that went through my head as I watched that video were "Oh, no!" and "Fuck this."

So much for Microsoft I guess. I'm obviously not the customer they want anymore.

Thank god for Steam.
The only thing I never feel like criticising Valve over.
I assume you've never had to buy a game off of Steam then? It's a goddamn nightmare.
Usually works well for me.
Aside from when I made the mistake of buying a total war game and had to wait ages for it to download.

I have it linked with my Paypal though.

I don't even know what to say here. Maybe I'm being overly harsh, or maybe I'm bitter because I'm feeling left out, but if this is what Microsoft means when it talks about taking the PC seriously as a gaming platform, I think I'll just go back to watching television.
this isnt a strategy meant for you, not directly at least. but if you want to see pc gaming continue on it would be in your best interest to support Microsoft in this endeavor. There are more pc in peoples homes then the wii, xbox and ps3 combined and Microsoft is finally taking some initiative and using its fan base properly. there will still be steam for the "hardcore" gamers, but this is the platform that will hold pc gaming up. who knows today's bejeweled player could be tomorrows minecraft...erm crafter that could end up being the spy that just saved your ass for the third time in team fortress 2. every gamer has to start somewhere.

Yes, you are being overly harsh; and yes, you are extra bitter.
Housewives spend more time playing online poker than many teenagers playing Call of Duty, and companies like Zynga make more money with Farmville or Mafia Wars than Sega with Yakuza 3. The future of gaming is not only in the stereotipical fat guy in a basement playing games in super high graphics all day. That is not "the core" anymore.
Deal with it.

As has already been stated in this thread, I'm not particularly concerned about this because, try as they might, Microsoft isn't going to make me play Bejeweled or turn me into someone who shops for clothes for my avatar while reading Facebook.

Right now, Games for Windows Live has no purpose and doesn't do anything well, so if they can turn it into a social media-enabled place for casual gamers, then great. I'll continue to buy all my games on Steam and connect with folks there, or interact with Microsoft on XBL like I already do.

The future of PC gaming is already here, Microsoft is just running to catch up with their own offering.
