I'm not a pc gamer, I'm not a console gamer. I'm just a gamer and I have to admit this doesn't look good. It looks like they're mostly making a non hardcore version of Steam. But, I guess so long as Steam is still allowed do what they're doing, we've got nothing to worry about.

I can see the gaming apocalypse now, as portrayed by a zombie film:

The Wii was the bit character who died within almost immediately to show how dire the zombie threat was.

Xbox was the burly guy (played by a professional wrestler) who got killed by zombies when it seemed like the group was safe.

PS3 is the untrustworthy guy who'll probably betray the group late in the film, and possibly was the cause of Xbox getting killed.

PC is the main male lead who was bitten by Wii shortly after his infection, but endures for the sake of his love, Steam. Whether he succumbs to the virus or takes his own life, we'll have to see...

Oh Andy you panic over nothing. Microsoft hasn't had any relevance in PC gaming in years. They had to pay developers to support G4WL, the worst content provider around. And even then that didn't help, as everyone they originally paid to use the service abandoned ship as soon as they could. (Fallout New Vegas and DoW2 Retribution as prime examples)

Nothing will come of this, Microsoft can try all they want to get the casual audience on PCs away from Facebook, but it won't happen. And the hardcore audience is already attached to Steam and/or Stardock.

A network for casual games...that could potentially act as a gateway into deeper gaming?

The horror!

My idiot neighbors must of finally fired a bullet through my window instead of into the air, because what I'm seeing is Hell. The only thing interesting about that video was the little Battlefield 2 part, and even that was ruined when that disfigured, animated manikin said "P0wned".

Microsoft...you've lost me. I'm now to you what those 900 people attending that John Kerry rally were to that tool that got tazed: worthless and useless.

Meh.. Microsoft knows they aren't going to beat Steam at its own game so why should they even try? If they integrate their product really well with the social networking stuff, then they might succeed in pulling in the crowd they actually want.

As long as Microsoft keeps making new DirectX versions I could care less what else they do.

I don't even know what to say here. Maybe I'm being overly harsh, or maybe I'm bitter because I'm feeling left out, but if this is what Microsoft means when it talks about taking the PC seriously as a gaming platform, I think I'll just go back to watching television.
I wouldn't be too concerned. The video's clearly a little bit old judging by the games that are featured, and Microsoft's competitors are way ahead in this game. Steam essentially already does all this stuff, and what Steam doesn't do, Facebook does. The only way Microsoft could really get in on this now is by locking/steering people into their games network as a feature of the OS, and they best not try that given the outcome of recent court cases. On the other hand, if Valve and Facebook start getting more chummy you might see something like this one day, but that'll be a good thing as they're more likely to get it right.

Why are people getting precious about the spelling of "pwn3d", doesn't it have half a dozen spellings anyway?

If I can't have sex, nor dress up and roleplay as Summer Wars, then no thanks, I'll pass, I'm pretty sure I can do something on Steam.

Well yeah it's not ideal, but unless everyone else has failed to notice - Facebook has more users than any game. They're going where the money is, and farmville's a damn gold mine.

I'm fine with bright colors, but micro-transactions are terrible. I wonder if Microsoft genuinely believes that this will work, most people already have Steam or an iPhone to play these games on.

Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. I'm just concerned that if this actually works, Valve will try to follow suit. Or game developers will sign up for this and even if it ends up as a pile of stinky poo, we will still be forced to install it along with it's exclusive games...

And this is why Microsoft will never be able to overtake Valve in PC gaming. They're moving away from what the hardcore demographic wants. That said, I'm honestly shocked that Microsoft actually makes money off of the Avatar clothing.....and why they would think people would compliment you based on how much expendable income you have.

Long story short, Someone in the Marketing department is a bit distanced from the core demographic.
