Oh good God...
Why?! What did we do wrong?
Was it because we asked for Halo 2 onwards, maybe Gears of War?
I mean, come on Microsoft, you had potential to be original, or atleast a different take on Valve.
Now you're just shit. And not even in a slightly usable way that could be looked over.

Considering we still have Steam, I would say it's never too late to join the PC crowd ;)

This is just.... sad?

Really what other word is there for it, seriously who handles Microsofts market research? Clearly its an appeal to the "casual" demographic, but I would like to think not even the farmville addicts could want this system. I mean really yay micro-transactions for aggresively pointless objects...?

DLC for games has at least a rational premise, ongoing support, new maps, noew modes, new story etc can extend a games lifespan, but if you ever bought a digital hat for your avatar then this is partly your fault.

Whoever said they will be charging us for the ammo in our guns next be careful, could be a self-fufilling propecy if Microsoft get wind of the idea from the looks of things.

Ugh it disgusts me how blatantly they are trying to appeal to all demographics. Makes them look like massive sellouts.

Fuck off microsoft, not having that shit on my PC.

If they try and force this to be used with new games, just download some crack to get round it. Devs get thier money from the purchase and you bypass the bullshit.

Steam ftw.

They want to give you an identity so they give you a fake avatar which can be whatever you want which other people with other fake avatars which can be anybody they want can comment on? When everyone hides behind their avatars like that there is no identity, and if they are they're only as real as those avatars will ever be.

The video sounds like the kind of corporate baloney they try to feed you at fast food restaurants and Walmarts and such, where all the words are meant to sound empowering, but really just seem demeaning. By using "I" and "me" a lot it makes it look like they're trying to put words in your mouth, as if you are the one saying these stupid things. It's those phrases that are carefully chosen so as to sound like they have no personality at all, hopefully allowing that to fit nicely overtop any personality (or hoping that the viewers are so pathetically bland that it works for them). Whoever this is aimed at, it's insulting them, and is some of the worst kind of by-committee advertising.

And yeah... "p0wned". That's the worst. And not simply because they misspelled it. It's like at the last minute they thought "Oh, lets try and keep some of the other game players too..." and so they not only threw in some totally unrealistic dialogue, they also tried to act like they knew something about people who play games and got it quite wrong. It's a sign that no one involved in this has played any of the type of game that they were pushing in that last segment. Either that, or some smartass like me works for them and knew that it was already an insult to game aficionados everywhere, so why not make it a joke too?

What.

This smacks of that half-assed (I think it was Google's idea) Facebook clone that tracked pretty much everywhere you went on the internet and showed it off to your friends. At what point did companies decide that everyone wants to wave giant glowing neon signs over themselves?

When I play games, a lot of the time I want to play them by myself. I don't want friends to interrupt anymore than I want people talking to me while I'm watching a movie. I don't want everyone to see what I've played, when, and for how long. Maybe I've just got the loner mentality (although I've been an avid Team Fortress 2 team player for years), or maybe I've got more to be embarrassed about than the average person. Either way, I can't be the only one who thinks this is a terrible, terrible idea.

I mean, I dunno about you guys, but I've been to some questionable sites in my day (intentionally or not) and you know what? I really don't want to tell anyone. It feels like the goal of this "greater social connectivity" that everyone seems to be pushing lately is just an excuse to be able to legally and easily obtain information off users for ad-related shenanigans. Sure, leaderboards are a great place to wave your e-peen around, but come on. Maybe if you gave me the option of uploading something, like Steam's new screenshot system. I like that. It lets me show off what I want to show off, and if I don't, nothing happens.

Not everything has to be a social experience. Sometimes I just wanna disappear into a game, and nothing kills immersion faster than "xxxN00berxxx has messaged you: lol sup dude?"

Half the fun of multiplayer games is based around the anonymity. If you want, you can find a community to settle down and build up a name for yourself, but sometimes you just wanna find a random public server to dick around in.

R.I.P. Danpascooch:
He was found ripping his own hair out and eating it while furiously screaming the word "FUCK!" repeatedly. When officers tried to calm him down he exploded into a fireball that killed everyone inside the building, Firefighters claim the explosion originated from inside his body, but how this is possible remains a mystery.

I like the part when they say "I can spend my money as I see fit" as if that's a special feature "Holy shit! I get to choose what I spend my money on!? THANKS MICROSOFT!!!"

Grr! I'm angry!

The worst part is that they are going to strap people down and force them to pay for micro-transactions and play casual games whether they want to or not. And how dare they appeal to the casual gamers anyway? They aren't even real gamers.

Stop fretting about it, that's clearly aimed at the (huge) casual games market. PopCap and Valve are two mostly different markets (that said, Plants vs. Zombies was fun).

But....what's with Microsoft showing up late to the party these days? Kinect released just as the Wii boom is fading, now essentially trying to turn GFWL into IMVU? What's going on, do they think it's 2005 or something?

Having options is not really a bad thing.
No it is a very bad idea in this case, because this isn't an "option" that the consumer gets to choose, it looks like an option the DEVELOPER gets to choose, which is then forced upon the buyers of the game.

Now I love Steam, but you know how some games are only available through Steam? Imagine if Steam was the thing in this trailer. Options don't look so good now do they? It's going to suck when the inevitable tide of games that only use this system come in, at the very least, games made my Microsoft are probably all going to use it.

What does it matter, we're all going to keep using steam.
When Microsoft completes this abomination they'll probably release many PC games that use it exclusively.
