I guess they're just not going to try and take Steam's crown off them. Pretty soon, if statistics are to be believed, over half of all purchases for PC will be done through Steam. If Microsoft can appeal to the other side of the market, whilst maybe offering a few token nicities to those of us who might play the odd casual game, then the two could co-exist. It may not be all to our tastes, but I admire them for their tactics. I still think though that "hardcore" PC gaming as we know it should have a central hub, and my vote goes to Steam. In fact, I think all retail releases should include Steam as DRM, then we wouldn't need anything else, and retail won't become insignificant to those of us who still like a physical copy.
