So my Dead Space 2 Security Armored Avatar has a personality now?

Regardless, I don't see the problem with the ad. Microsoft just wants to allow the Xbox and the PC to sort of "Integrate"
you are aware of how awful the Xbox community is right?
allow me to mimic the calls of some of the average species of xbox gamers:
"OWNED YOU STOOPID NUB OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLLLOL"
" GODDAMNIT! I LOST ONE WHOLE POINT!"
"I'm wike twenty free you ath hole"

Or at least, that's what I hear a lot of the time.
The community is just as bad on PS3 AND PC. The backlash comes from the fact that Xbox360 practically gives away microphones, that just so happen to end up in the hands of assholes like them.

Besides, there are always good people on XBL too.

...The fuck?

Oh, I'm not talking about the video, I'm talking about the reactions. I don't see this being a bad thing at all.

Firstly, this looks to be aimed at the same people who use Windows Media Center. So, a slick interface to get around that annoying "folders" thing, by organising things by type. Not a compulsory thing everyone has to do. You saw the dude at the end, working like normal, up pops a toolbox notification, 'cause he's got it running in the background. Anyone hardcore enough to hate knows how to shut that shit down, and it's not going to take over everything.

Second, GFWL sucks. The XBox Dashboard does not. Making the former look and work like the latter is a good thing. In fact, that vid looks closer in function to Sony's XMB, which by all accounts is even better.

Third, what's wrong with matchmaking? Yes, keep server lists, but why not matchmaking too?

Fourth, in-game notification what? You do realise Steam does this? You do know notifications can be turned off on XBox too, right? How you would obviously be able to do that here too?

The only thing that struck me as odd about the whole thing was spotting Sins of a Solar Empire:Diplomacy up there. Not so sure Stardock would be too happy about that, but maybe it's just a fancy quicklaunch bar or something... you know what? I could go for a quicklaunch bar that scrolls rather than pages like win7...

Windows Gaming eXperience?

WGX?!

HA! HA I say!

I'm not affected.

I use Steam, punk.

OT: The bright colors in the video are making me just a little nauseous.

Also,I think I've found the most pointless thing in the world: Posting a picture of your GFWL avatar on Facebook. What.

And the pronunciation of GWLF is now "Gawful".
I think it's "Gwulf!" You know, one of those sounds you make when you are vomiting into the toilet.

Whinge whinge, moan moan. All you ever used to hear on site like this was people wanting gaming to be taken seriously. Then, when it looks like gaming has found a platform for mass appeal and acceptance, people start moaning because it isn't grey and shooty enough. Absolute hypocrites.

Sure this isn't what you play personally, but it doesn't mean that you will stop getting games that you know and like. Just because television is littered with crap, doesn't mean that awesome shows aren't being made.

If you want to moan about this, then fine. If you do, then stop all this whinging about being "outcasts", being "misunderstood", and quit moaning when you are misrepresented, because like a spoilt brat child, you seem to throw it back in societies face when it does make that connection and acceptance.

What does it matter, we're all going to keep using steam.
When Microsoft completes this abomination they'll probably release many PC games that use it exclusively.
But they'll be games made by microsoft - when was the last time they made anything worth spending cash on for the PC?

Then again, they do have the Halo IP to milk :/
Alright, maybe they don't release much personally, but it's pretty safe to assume that it'll have at least the adoption rate of Games For Windows Live right?

GFWL was the platform for Arkham Asylum, Fallout 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, Bulletstorm, and tons of other games.

It really does look like this is going to be a problem.
Damn, didn't think of that. Balls.

Go you honestly feel that that video showed games being taken seriously? We need "seriously" as in, as acceptable as movies and TV, not as in people hiding behind avatars and being 'allowed' to spend their money 'as they see fit' on stupid virtual goods.

seriously... this is a major let down

the punchline came at the end: "Heh POwned" because hardcore games are going to be pushed to consoles by them.

Wow...I don't even know what to say...Not only do I not see this being effective for the casual market, I see it being completely pathetic for the hardcore market. All that emphasis on the avatar...it's just mind blowing.

Yes, and just because it doesn't fit into everyone's definition of "seriously" doesn't mean it isn't.

Using television as an example- the people who watch television, regardless of what tripe they watch, are more likely to be understanding and accepting of it as a medium than those who completely reject it. Same with film, and every other medium known to man. The "casual" gaming market is (depending on your sources) considerably larger than the "hardcore" market, and (again, depending on your sources) actually clocks more hours per day than the average "hardcore gamer". You tell me who the real audience is? Just because we were here first, or we like games with a bit more integrity, doesn't make us the primary market.

Please, kill it. KILL IT WITH FIRE!

On a more serious note: As long as they don't attach it to games I'm really gonna play (Arkham Asylum with GFWL comes to mind... such terrible torture -.-) they can do whatever the heck they want with their super casual abomination.

Oh boy, Microsoft not making good on their promise to support the PC again.
What will happen next? Perhaps the sun will rise, that would be about as expected as this.

But seriously, I think it's a good time to give up on Microsoft if you're a PC gamer if you haven't already.
