That commentator is so annoying.

I can't even imagine how the people who want to 'protect' the children will react to this.

ok, fighting in D.C? Yeah, not much of a controversy in that in my opinion, but frankly, I have a feeling Infinity Ward have taken it too far this time... sure, its still going to be a great game, but IW are risking getting they're game banned in a lot of places, particularly ultra-sensitive America.

To me, it seems that Infinity Ward's relying on gamers to bail them out from the ensuing controversy by pointing out that:

a) free speech
b) this is a small part of the game, with the rest being apple-pie-patriotic terrorist-killing
c) games are a maturing medium, and thus can and should handle "adult" and "dark" subjects
d) the media are a bunch of ambulance-chasing, controversy-manufacturing luddites

However, Activision's pre-emptively shot Infinity Ward in the foot with the price increase, Bobby Kotick and the lack of dedicated servers. They're not exactly swimming in gamer goodwill right now.

In any case, the ensuing hullabaloo is going to be amusing. *gets popcorn*

Now I kinda want the game because controversy aside it would be fun as heck to
Shoot people who don't fight back, like zombies but this time I might win. It's also not like there's not a bigger controversy like hitman blood money, jfk the game blowing people up with nuclear bombs in fallout, but that's all fine and dandy, unlike the sex scene in mass affect, or blood in madworld. IT'S NOT EVEN A REAL WAR!!! It's an imagenary senerico made up by infinity ward!

I'm not at all saying that I'm correct or anything here, but...why do I feel this -has to be a hoax-. I mean, playing as a terrorist..gunning down innocent civilians? Though there are some who would find it fun, I doubt everyone would? I don't think I.W. would force anyone to do this against their own will; there are probably plenty of people who would just be downright uncomfortable with it.

Tell me that this doesn't have "moral outrage" written all over it, particularly in the post-9/11 world (well okay, mainly just the US).
I doubt it's just the US when you have England's Tube Bombing, especially with the IRA.

(Spoken as someone with Northern Irish parents)

But yeah, MODERN WARFARE IS CONTROVERSIAL and GAMES ARE EVIL BECAUSE OF CONTROVERSY. That's why we're not allowed to have nice things any more and why Jack Thompson rags on us; because, as gamers, we just can't behave.

Under the assumption this IS leaked footage of the real game, I can 100% guarantee you the entire point of this section is to make the player uncomfortable.

This is not going to happen in a mainstream title such as Modern Warfare 2.

The video is either fake or will be a non-interactive.

The intended sophistication of this game's geopolitical commentary will go over the heads of the crass metal freaks who'll buy it for DA KICK.

Well, whilst you Americans cry over the people you kill, it seems I'll already be on my second Veteran playthrough.

Why not? Why shouldn't mainstream titles strive to elevate video games as a form of interactive storytelling through darker and more adult means?

I'm sick of IW doing cool stuff and then annoying stuff. The story mode looks pretty sweet, so I'll have to borrow the game off a friend seeing as I don't have much interest for the multiplayer.

Also, yay, I beat the news room.

EDIT: I just thought that we haven't had a major video game controversy in a while, and seeing as this is a major release and it's the game all the kids will want for Christmas, this looks set to be something that makes me laugh when misinformed people make hilarious quotes on how IW are a bunch of far-left terrorist sympathisers.

As I said in the other thread about this video:

With airports the way they are these days, with 2 hour lines everywhere, delays everywhere, and all around a pain in the ass to even go near them, I can understand why someone would want to shoot everyone there.

This may very well be why that douche of a CEO was so confident of the sales - people will get it just because of all the controversy, particularly if all the "authority figures" are condeming it (bad is cool, remember?).

Killing civilians was never fun to me. It's just wrong. But - show must go on, I think we'll be seeing much more controversy in the future.
