The actual video was fake, but yeah, in Raids they tend to plan everything out.

Yes I think it's fake. If she was holding a cell phone then she would more likely be holding it with her right hand. As you can see is holding her... Wait a sec... DOH!

OT: Go to 3:10 if you want to get to the root of the topic. Otherwise enjoy the video!

While there is no logic behind my decision, I'd like to think that it wasn't staged. It makes it that much more entertaining.

Of course it was faked. "32.33% chance of survival (repeating, of course)"? That should have given it away.

Actually, UBRS is a 10-man raid. (15 prior to 1.10.)

The Leeroy Jenkins raid wipe video was scripted and executed by the World of Warcraft guild Pals for Life. Having played World of Warcraft for a few years, and having raided with half a dozen or so different guilds (either as a member or a stand-in in a pick-up group) I can say that this video pokes fun at the hyper-serious guilds who plan out encounters to the T. It happens less often today, as raid and boss encounters have gotten much, much easier than they were in Vanilla WoW (though if things go the way Blizzard seems to be hoping with the Cataclysm expansion, that may change.) Plus, consider the placing of player characters in the beginning: if you've ever grouped or raided, you have seen that players never take the time to stand in perfect circles. Also, you can clearly see after everyone runs in that all raid members are running around to activate as many eggs as possible: that was the biggest no-no on that particular boss fight in Vanilla WoW.
So, yes. The Leeroy Jenkins video is not an actual, legitimate wipe. It was planned out and scripted as a joke to parody people that take the game far to seriously.

TL;DR- It's absolutely faked.

It was faked.
He even came out and said it during a blizzcon interview.
But it was based on something stupid he really did.

Anyone who had any familiarity with the blackrock spire dungeon instance knows it was fake. I mean, the one guy who pipes up on ventrillo and states some weird % possibility of success? what?

When I played WoW some people took the game incredibly seriously, in the dungeons you kind of have to.

That's why I enjoyed the video so much, it was just a guy who wanted to play the game and not treat it as some kind of mathematics procedure.

Edit: Reading on the other comments yeah, that video was faked. Definitely threw me for a loop.

Everyone know Leeroy Jenkins now-a-days, but I was wondering if it was faked. Does the game really get so over-the-top with calculations and getting into the tedious details or did they just want to make a very hilarious video and act the whole thing? I wouldn't think people would get into a game that they would figure probabilities cause it seems like there would be too many variables. So was it faked?
I read somewhere that it was fake. Mostly because of the calculations, which were considered overkill, and also alot of what happned was only possible if someone was purposely setting things up. So by the guys own admission (the one saying it was fake, no link, sorry) he beleive it was all set up for lols.

I've heard about 8 million claims (hyperbole) on both sides about how 'It's genuine!' and 'It's fake!'

Frankly, as a WoW player, it feels a little staged. (Opinion) The dialogue between the people is almost 100% crystal clear and they react to each others dialogue rather quickly, like they recorded the audio separately. Plus, when the raid leader asks to do a number crunch on their success rate... Where did they come up with those numbers? Is there an addon that can calculate your success rate against the Lich king to tell you you have a 32.33333333...% chance of defeating him?

I don't know, I've never been in a raid as organized as that. It's usually "DPS do this, Tank, do this, healer cover these people, GO." Without all the excessive dialogue. (Maybe I'm just not in an organized enough guild.)

Why would they run in and help him, they would let him die and the make him get the body, there would be no consequences, but I'm not sure maybe vanilla WoW was different or something.

I've talked to people who do anaylitics of weapons and items in Team Fortress 2. It's actually rather fascinating.

Hammer Units are the unit of measure in the Source Engine, 1 HU is equal to 3/4 of an Inch in map scale, 1 Inch in model scale, and 16 feet in 3DSkybox scale.
The maximum range of a sentry gun is the same for all 3 levels, which is 1024 HU, or 64 feet.

My guild is actually pretty similar to that, and we are successful quite alot. However, im not sure about Leeroy being real - alot of posts are saying they think its real because it was very similar to a real raid. But obviously if they were faking/reenacting it they would go for the raid feel. But hey, I dont care wether its real or not...Its freaking awesome all the same, and brought in a nice title/achievement to the game (Which I solo'd ;) )

The infamous "Leeroy Jenkins" - incident WAS staged, but the intention was not to mock the obsessiveness of certain WOW addicts.

It was to demonstrate their typical behavior.

Hard to believe? Take a look at this - the person speaking is an actual WOW guild leader, and the audio was recorded live (and presumably without his knowledge) by a guild member during the process of planning, executing and eventually screwing up a notoriously difficult raid.

Em obviously the video is fake but stuff like that and actual calculations like that do happen. Maybe not to the same degree but people do do this you don't just stroll into online competitive play on anything you need to plan.

Of course it was faked. That guild was formed to create youtube videos, AND the guy who was COMPLAINING about Leeroy was aggroing every creep in the room.

It was clearly fake and quite funny. Although it might have been even funnier to watch someone wipe a real raid like that.

Dungeons don't really take too much effort. if each person knows what they are doing, you can just have the healer or whoever buff your stats and just work together. Raids are a different story. Raids are "bad-ass" and actually require a team captain to plan out what's going to happen and who is going to do what.

The captain ususally knows exactly what abilities each person has, and is good at remember what monsters appear where. The captain in the video tends to scream "Omg! What's going on!" and salvage it dramatically, which made me think for a long time that it was fake. Turns out it was. But it's happened to alot of people

But that's just because I would be trying to stay alive and swearing aggresively at the idiot.
