So a friend linked me to this page with a L4D3 counter: http://l4d3.ru/

Don't worry I checked the page for viruses with my web scanner and it seems to be okay but just to be on the safe side do an antivirus search after opening the page. Id rather not have you all catch viruses because of me.

Anyway away from my rambling (sorry). What do you think about this? It seems like it would be the time at which this kind of thing would appear (pre Christmas and just post steam sale) but I dunno. I'm not sure that Valve can count to three Valve would just post a timer without anything else.

No, this is fake. Know how I know? It's a .ru domain name, meaning it's a Russian webpage. No way in hell Valve would make their timer on a Russian webpage. Not only that, but there's no way that Valve would make their counter so blatantly obvious. So no, this is fake.

Like the past 50 or so count down sites pertaining to anything valve related, this will not be real. I doubt Valve would ever use such a blatant count down to announce a game, it would either have to be a normal announcement at a gaming event with a lot of press or some deeply hidden ARG if they were to ever announce another game.

Gonna go with this. Not only is the Russian domain extremely suspect, but this isn't really Valve's style anyways. Normally they'd do an ARG or something of the sort, a straight up counter is really out of character.

A left 4 dead 3 counter you say?
Probably fake, but doesn't matter,
Lef 4 Dead 3, has a 3 in it.
Valve related...
....
Half-Life 3 confirmed.

This comment has 6 lines, half of six is three.

I think we all know what this means.

OT: As others have said, the Russian domain makes it fairly suspect and it isn't the first time someone has done this.

It'd be nice if it was true but I don't think so.

Excluding numbers, your first line has 6 words in it.... half of six is three....

Between the Russian Domain, some of Valve's other teasers being much more imaginative and the fact there is a three in it (I know there was a volume three for the Portal 2 soundtrack but that doesn't count) I'll say its fake.

I think I know what you're thinking...

That Left 4 Dead 3 would come out BEFORE Half-Life 3...

And that fake counter is just the distraction from the real deal!

(Although, if it were a real counter, then this "simple" equation might have gotten complicated... or prove that "Theory of 3"...)

Can you imagine the internet hatesplosion if an L4D3 was released before a HL3 was even officially announced?

Not only is it Russian but its also using Source 2 engine. Now I (PERSONALLY) haven't heard anything about a new Source engine, Source is probably the most mod friendly tool in the modding community so I think I would have heard or read something about it. Of course a story regarding Source2 could have come out awhile ago and it was either too long ago for me to remember or I just never heard of it due to me being blatantly ignorant of certain aspects of PC gaming( consoles 5eva!!!!1!1!1!!1!!;)))))

For all we know it could turn out to be a massive modding project in Russia, or this is real and Valve used another URL for unseen reasons.

It wouldn't be hard to persuade me into believing that this was a project done from a bunch of modders or, the most likely, a project started up by a thread on 4chan. I mean those guys made Katawa Shoujo and are working on a handmade Pokemon game, with new Pokemon and all, based off of South America.

Source is highly user friendly, not to mention in the past month modders have successfully remade Baldur's Gate II in Neverwinter Nights 2, created Project Brazil and added extra gameplay and a new story to Fallout: New Vegas, and a teenager spent 2000 hours creating a mod 20-hours long for Skyrim.

Most probable is that it's fake, most believable would be that it's a mega mod. Then again I don't know the state of games in Russia. I just image in the place as a colder USA but with more clouds and oppression via Putin.

How is Russia by the way?

The Russian domain, and the fact that when a friend sent me this yesterday night, I saw nothing on IGN or Kotaku OR Gamespot about this. Which makes more red flags rise up. Usually, the gaming press would be all over this if even they believed it.

I remember when it was Gabe's birthday he mentioned about source engine 2 being released like February or January. Some Q1 time on a news post on this site. I hypothesized that meant it was something about to happen, but I didn't see either happening. So nya.

But a little more ontopic, I'm agreeing with everyone else. Fake, because it's .ru and it's too blatant for Valve. I can't remember one announcement that came direct from them, it was always ARG

Gotta agree with you on this one. Plus it's forgetting the most important thing of all, everyone knows that Valve can't count to 3. It's one of the skills that Gabe lost after he dropped out of Harvard unfortunately. XD

I actually would agree with you. As much as I enjoy the Half Life games, I'd be way more happy to see a Left 4 Dead 3 than a Half Life 3 at this point. I just enjoy it more.

*activates my anti-flame shields as well*

OT: It's probably fake, but I kinda wish it wasn't. Like I said, I'd really love a L4D3 to happen.

Oh, and to everyone being unfunny and unoriginal by repeating "Lol, Valve can't count to 3!", Counter Strike: Global Offensive proves you wrong. Yes it may not have "3" in the title, but it's technically the fourth installment in the CS franchise. So yes, Valve can count to 3. Now quit repeating a meme that was never funny in the first place.

- A Russian domain name
- A Russian hosting company
- you can just go browse /images whenever
- layout is nothing like professional, more like...quickly made

Yeah, I can totally see how...oh forget it - it's not it and even bringing it up wasn't worth it.
