Left 4 Dead Demo Now Public

Can't wait until next November 18th to blow some heads off the undead? Get a sneak peek right now!

The wait is almost over. Valve's terrifying zombie-infested first-person shooter is marvelously close to fruition. While those who pre-ordered Left 4 Dead have already had plentiful opportunities to fight for survival in the first two levels of the oncoming zombie apocalypse, anyone with an Xbox 360 or a PC can now get a taste of the action. A free demo is a free demo, but the pot is all that much sweeter - and the brains much tastier - when zombies are involved. Still need some persuasion? Take a quick gander at game's heart pounding opening cinematic. If that doesn't get your blood pumping and your itchy trigger fingers twitching for some zombie slaying, first-person shooting survival horror nothing will.

The Left 4 Dead demo will be available until Nov. 18, when the game launches on Steam and at retail outlets for the PC and Xbox 360. Get in on the zombie infestation a bit early, while you still can.

I just got this last night, and it's fan-freaking-tastic.

I love Valve, but I refused to give into the hype. Mostly because I'm not big on survival horror games.

But my buddy and I played this last night split screen, and then I played 4 player co-op over LIVE, and I'm hooked.

It's tense, you HAVE to work together, it goes from quiet creeping to fighting off HORDES of zombies in a split second...it's awesome.

I was really worried about playing online in a game that relied so much on teamwork (I'm sure every LIVE subscriber and their grandmas have stories about douches online), but either I lucked out on the two guys I got (The 4th was a guy on my friend's list, I knew he was OK), or the game just brings everyone together. We were communicating, running for our lives, saving each other's asses, healing each other, giving painkillers to the one who needed it...it was poetry in motion...a zombie bloodlust poetry...but poetry nonetheless.

It was supposed to be released yesterday at 3pm GMT (may be +1 due to daylight savings). It was delayed for 3 hours and I was sat in a Steam forum for that time trying to get information as to when it would be released. Within about 2 hours a thread went from about 10 pages to 50.

Totally worth it, downloaded the 3200mb and played both levels to death.

Smoker and Hunter are only dangerous in that they take control away from the player, not an issue when things are light, but when the horde comes out of nowhere, having one of these fuckers take away a player while the others are occupied with not being eaten by the regular screamers is VERY dangerous. Boomer is nasty because of his ability to attract aforementioned hoard, get vomited on or covered in that bile and your in for the fight of your life... horde just destroys. Now the witch is bad news, but if your prepared (and have a spare Molotov) she's can be dealt with fairly quickly so long as you keep your distance.

But the Tank...

The witches are bitches. I saw one, but I thought it was just a woman sobbing on the floor, went up thinking it was an escort quest, and...BAM! One shot kill.

Oh, and you 'can' jump from the roof, but I really wouldn't advise it. It's when the smoker and hunter tagteam that you're really screwed. Closing the doors after you does help though.
