Legendary Comic Artist's Personal Collection Up for Sale

A portion of artist Dave Cockrum's personal comic collection is being sold to help fund art school scholarship efforts.

If you're any sort of fan of the X-Men then you owe Dave Cockrum a solid. A fairly legendary comic artist, he's credit with the co-creation of fan favorite characters including Storm, Colossus and Nightcrawler. He was also responsible redesigning and creating many of the comic book indsutry's most beloved superhero costumes. Sadly, Cockrum passed in 2006 due to complications from his diabetes.

To help honor his legacy the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art launched the Dave & Paty Cockrum Scholarship in 2008, which since then has been funded by the sale of Cockrum's personal comic collection. That in mind, Cokrum's estate has recently <a href=http://davecockrumcomics.blogspot.com/2014/03/dave-cockrums-personal-x-men-comics.html>cracked open said collection to launch another round of sales, leaving comic fans with a rare opportunity to snag something that belonged to one of the greats.

While a good portion of the included items have already been claimed or sold there are a bunch of good pieces left, including some that are actually pretty danged affordable. Batman # 453, for instance, will only set you back $25. Likewise, there are several issues of New Mutants, Ms. Marvel and The Avengers still up for grabs that prospective collectors pick up without breaking the bank. Reserving an item merely requires contacting an email in the original blog post. There are also several pieces available <a href=http://www.ebay.com/sch/davecockrumestate/m.html?item=251423490212&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562>on eBay. So take a peek an let us know if anything catches your eye. Just personally, I might have to pick Jurassic Park #1, because clearly that's a must-have.
