Also, obligatory "If this was a BioWare game, there would be a Courier and Victor romance option."
Who needs Victor when you have Fisto?

How did you solve the conflict at Boulder City?
The peaceful way.

On my first playthrough I tried to make it as peaceful s possible. The only time I think I majorly screwed up was with the Kings and NCR relations.

(By the way, I've created updates to a point just after returning the Platinum Chip to Mr. House from the Fort (Which is quite a decent way ahead in the game). After that point, we are definitely doing Dead Money first, I've decided. I'll go in order of release, but I won't do all the DLC back to back.)
Yay, Dead Money, I can't wait.

[HEADING=1]Picking Up the Trail...[/HEADING]
After that rather lengthy distraction with those Ghouls, we're back on the road. All signs point to Vegas, but Manny told us that the Khans and Benny were holed up in Boulder City. Let's see what's going on there.

There is HELIOS One on the left, but we're holding off on visiting that quite yet.

This road leads straight to Vegas, so at least we're on the right track now. Even if this Benny thing falls through, we can still maybe stop by New Vegas for some gambling.

There is all this run down construction equipment on the side of the road here. Not really sure why it's here.

These guys hide behind the sign to ambush you. As you can guess, it's not very effective.

Continuing down the road and we run into a ton of ants eating a dead brahmin.

We run into this chap sitting at a campfire further down the road. We want to talk to him for a sidequest later, but right now we need to stay on track.

This Boulder City, it's pretty much composed of rubble and maybe 3 standing buildings. Boulder City is also anothe real city, according to the wiki. Oddly enough, gambling is not allowed in the real Boudler City.

Let's chat with this fellow standing by the memorial over there.

"What is this memorial?"

"It commemorates the Battle of Hoover Dam. The rangers lured the best of Caesar's Legion into Boulder City, then blew up the town."

Oh, so that's why it's all... rubble-y.

"The NCR still lost a bunch of troops in the fighting, though. My older brother sacrificed himself so they could evacuate some of the wounded."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"Don't worry about it."

Oh look, a saloon.

Very similar aesthetics to the Goodsprings Saloon in here. There is absolutely nothing of note in this saloon by the way, it's not involved in any sidequests or a nything really. It's pretty much completely empty too.

"Tell me about Boulder City."

"Most of the town is rubble - destroyed during the Battle of Hoover Dam - and the only other thing around here is the concrete mixing yard."

"What's the concrete used for?"

"The NCR has been constructing bunkers up and down the river. From what I've heard, it's a little late for that."

Again, I know I've stated it many times before, but Obsidian did a good job making the world seem at least a little logical.

"Travelers over at the 188 - just up the road - said that the Legion has overrun a couple of towns to the south."

"Where does the concrete come from?"

"Most of the limestone comes from Quarry Junction out west, but I hear some Deathclaws overran the quarry."

Overran doesn't even begin to describe it.

"With no work to be had, all the workers around here have wandered off. I'm the only one left in town."

Figured as much. There's still a few NCR guys in the town though, so he isn't completely alone.

Huh, this building seems to be somewhat still intact.

This is an interesting little area of the game, if only because it's completely unexpected. You would think that the NCR would maybe clean up the area and bury what's left of the soldiers, but nope, guess not.

This is a loading screen barrier set up to enter the inner part of Boulder City, for some strange reason.

"Can I ask you some questions?"

"Shoot."

"What happened to Boulder City?"

I realize that I've been asking all the NPC's here the same thing, but Boulder City is pretty much completely inconsequential to the rest of the game, gameplay and plot wise, so I'm trying to show as much info about it as possible while it's still relevant.

"Destroyed during the Battle of Hoover Dam a couple of years ago. The town was set up as a trap for Caesar's Legion. The sharpshooters in the Rangers picked off the Legion's veterans from a distance, and the rest of the Legion just rushed on in. Then - boom!"

"Is there anything you can tell me about the Great Khans?"

"They're an outlaw group, primarily trafficking in drugs and other contraband. They usually stay out of NCR territory, though."

"Let's talk about something else."

"All right."

"What's going on with the Great Khans?"

"One of my patrols was on its way back from Novac when it came under fire from the Great Khans. They radioed for reinforcements, but instead of waiting for us, they chased the Khans into the ruins where they were caught in a crossfire. No deaths, but not all of the squad got out."

Of course, this is where we come in.

"The Khans have Private Ackerman and Private Gilbert as hostages."

"These Great Khans might have something of mine - a Platnium Chip."

"Once the Great Khans have been killed or captured, you're welcome to retrieve any property they've taken from you."

"I may be able to negotiate a deal with the Great Khans."

"Normally, I'd turn you down since I have no idea who you are, but considering that the hostages are as good as dead when we attack... All right, I'm going to give you a chance to talk to the Great Khans. Their leader is a man named Jessup."

Jessup?

"If we hear shooting, we'll be coming in, but it'll probably be late for you."

Nah, depending on their weapons, we'll take at least 10 shots before going down if I don't feel like stopping time and using my insta-stimpaks.

"Don't worry about me. I can handle myself in a fight."

Yet these guys still managed to ambush us and shoot us in the head earlier on in the game.

"Good luck."

There are about 3 NCR soldiers on the left, aiming at the Great Khans.

That building is where the Great Khans are hiding out. If we decided to sneak through here, they would be hostile to us by default, but going in there and negotiating allows you to walk right through.

That's some great cover you got there!

This is so satisfying.

"I got better."

Obvious reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail there. This isn't the only time this game (Or any other game for that matter) reference that movie.

"And here I thought us Great Khans were tough to kill. So, what happens now?"

"Where's the Platnium Chip?"

Why are we after the Platnium Chip? Shouldn't we care more about Benny at this point?

"Don't have it. Benny stole it, right before he stabbed us in the back. He's probably back at the Strip right now, laughing at me."

Well, we should have figured he would be there.

"I want some more answers."

"Yeah? On what?"

"What can you tell me about Benny?"

"He's one of the Chairmen, big shots who run The Tops casino in New Vegas. A friend from the city contacted me with info on a big job. I should've known that the caps were too good to be true, but there was still no way I could pass up the chance."

"What do you know about the Platnium Chip?"

"Just a big, fancy poker chip as far as I know. Don't know why anyone would make on out of platnium, though."

I dunno, platnium is a pretty nice metal. It's shiny, and probably does other cool things that I can't quite remember.

"Why did Benny betray you?"

Does he even need a reason to? It's pretty clear already that the guy is kind of a dick.

"He's a snake, that's why. He owed us the rest of the pay for the job, so maybe he didn't want to pay up."

How exactly did he betray you guys though? Just walk right out on you, or was there a fight or something?

"Let's talk about settling things between you and the NCR."

"What's to negotiate? The NCR backs off, we walk out of here, nobody gets hurt."

"[Speech 45] Free the hostages now, and I'll have the NCR escort you out of their territory?"

"[SUCCEEDED] I can't believe I'm doing this, but all right, the hostages can go."

This is the first major, important speech check you'll get in the game.

"The NCR had better keep their end of the deal, though. Here - a souvenir for you. It's Benny's lighter. Shove it up his ass when you catch up with him."

Will do.

Level up time again, this time points in Lockpick, Repair and Speech. Mostly for skill check purposes, we're still pretty effective with guns even if we're only at 60.

I like me some shotguns.

The hostages run back to the NCR.

"The Great Khans let the hostages go in exchange for their own freedom."

"My hands are tied. I can't go against orders... can I?"

"If you have any integrity, then you'll honor the deal."

"You're right. The Great Khans are free to go."

We're pretty good at this negotiating thing. I kind wish that he ordered the Khans to be killed anyway, as a bit of a twist. I mean, it wasn't one of them magical speech checks.

Yay, more reputation.

Just outside of Boulder City is this area. It's a train station, not much else to note.

Is that... Victor?

Somehow I'm not surprised.

"How did you get here?"

"Just rolling along on my spurs. Looks like I just might make it to New Vegas after all.

Weird to make a detour to Boulder City though.

"You see what happened in there?"

"Yup. Guess it's just down to you and fancy-pants. I wouldn't worry about him - he looked all hat and no cattle if you ask me."

What does that even mean?

"It's good to see you again, Victor."

"Yup, but this is getting a might embarrassing - people are going to start to talk. "

This isn't the only game I've played with an NPC who pretty much follows you around everywhere and says a variation on that exact same line.

Also, obligatory "If this was a BioWare game, there would be a Courier and Victor romance option."

"Did you see Benny come this way?"

"Fancy-pants? No, I ain't seen hide-nor-hair of him since the tussle in Goodsprings. I'm sure he ran back to the soft-living of New Vegas, 'though."

"Goodbye."

"Look me up when you get to New Vegas - I'll buy the first round."

I'm sure we'll be seeing Victor again real soon. We're almost at Vegas anyways.

Well, there's New Vegas. It seems far off, but now we know for sure where Benny is. That Platnium Chip is as good as ours.

Exactly what you did. Also, if you clear the Quarry, the bar will be full and the bartender will say something about a badass that killed all the deathclaws. Just though you wanted to know.

Oh really? I did not know that, that is actually really cool. Wish the game pointed it out.

I love the bartender who is armed with a baseball bat. I don't know why. Maybe he moonlights as a member of a certain gang [http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l4qz2uslLL1qbcvbwo1_500.jpg].

My first time, the Khans were hostile to me. I think I had my weapon drawn and that makes them hostile. It was an accident. Actually, my first time through I made a bunch of careless "mistakes" like that. I also smashed everyone in The Fort into an amorphous blob with Oh, Baby

You got Oh, Baby! before going into the Fort for the first time? I always waited until a decent length into the game before visiting Jacobstown.

Yeah, I sequence broke the hell out of the game my first time. And I also killed Vulpes (and his replacement) upon meeting them.

But I went to Jacobstown originally for Rex's quest. And since there really isn't much to do there, I quickly finished out the quests in the area and found Oh, Baby. After using it for a while, I felt very confident (I think I had just been using a lead pipe up to that point, so it was an absolutely massive improvement). Everyone became very squishy after that, so I went to The Fort and wreaked havoc. The only place that gave me any real trouble in the game my first time after finding that weapon was Black Mountain. But that was because the DT stat was broken for Super Mutants at launch (it was double what it should have been, meaning you did pretty much any weapon that wasn't explosive).

I've meta-gamed it a bit in my subsequent playthroughs in a conscious attempt to keep the narrative more organic. Sequence-breaking is fun in New Vegas, though, considering how hard it is to travel through some areas as a low level character.

See, I don't roleplay too much in most playthroughs. I just kind of go with the general stat build I want my character to be and factions I align myself with. There are a few games that I attempted to do a roleplay playthrough in (Skyrim is one that I did, when I still enjoyed it enough to play) but I eventually drop it because a lot of games nowadays just aren't really built for that and it just feels a bit silly to me after awhile if I the game isn't really built for it.

I think New Vegas actually gives enough choice to make roleplaying an actual possibility, as opposed to Fallout 3 or Skyrim that rarely go beyond just good guy or bad guy. (Skyrim especially, the game's roleplaying choices mostly come down to what questlines you pick)

I had to roleplay in Skyrim to really enjoy it. That meant I avoided certain quest lines and made choices that deprived me of some good loot, but it was more satisfying that way for me. I was strictly a stealth archer (a hunter, actually. And I did make a point to go kill lots of animals). I used magic once: to get into the Mage's college so I could question someone in there (the librarian, I think). Yeah, so I roleplay pretty heavily. Getting "into character" while adding self-imposed restrictions and challenges can elevate the experience. But I was still pretty damn bored of that game towards the end.

And you're right, New Vegas does a great job of allowing this. You hear a bunch of people complaining about this, though. They'll say (and I really hate to make this another New Vegas vs Fallout 3 discussion) that the Courier is just too much of a non-entity compared to the Lone Wanderer. But it just all depends on you as the player. There are a good many dialogue options that allow you to relay some of your history to other characters (I remember one about New Reno in that quest for The Tops' entertainment club. And there are others). But it's mostly just up to you. You should try it sometime. I think too many people play single-player RPGs like a multiplayer one, leading to them just going for the most powerful build. I prefer to have weaknesses, and to force myself to figure out how to level the playing field when those weaknesses are exposed.

Diplomacy, of course. That's how I tend to play my characters. Talk first, and if that doesn't work, shoot!

Hope you guys like dialogue, because the next few updates are going to be chalk full of it.

[HEADING=1]Water, Guns and Power Fists[/HEADING]
This is going to be a rather random update (If you can tell by the title) because there are just a lot of various stops we make on the way to New Vegas.

So we want to take a stop at the 188 Trading Post, as it's along the road we need to take anyway. It's pretty much completely inconsequential to the main storyline, but there are a few (Okay, one) important things to do here.

This NCR Ranger comes up to us and gives us this NCR Emergency Radio. I've never really used it before, never had an instance where I felt "Man, all I need is an NPC with lousy aim stealing my precious XP." The game is too easy for it to be useful.

You get it once you hit Accepted reputation status for the NCR, which is pretty easy.

Almost forgot, have to do something right here.

"I think we should part ways for now, Boone."

Yup, we're telling Boone to head back to Novac. Why? Well, we're about to pick up a new companion, and we can only have two. (One humanoid and one non-humanoid) So, Boone is going to be out of our party for awhile.

"If that's what you think."

"Yeah, that's what I think. You should head back home."

"All right. Guess I'll be around Novac for a whle longer, until I figure out what I want to do with myself. See you around."

He doesn't go anywhere. He must enjoy the company, despite the fact we haven't said a word to him since we recruited him. Must have been a very awkward and silent trip.

This is the 188 Trading Post. Lots of trailers and tents and not much else.

They must be careful around all that jagged metal. As you may not know, more people die in the wasteland from tetanus than Super Mutants or other related bullet wounds.

You know referring to your food as slop doesn't make it any more appetizing, right?

"Who are you?"

"Name's Michelle. My Dad and me run this store. His name's Samuel. I take the day shift and he takes nights. We came here about a month ago, when Primm went to hell on account of the prison break north of here."

Hell is exaggerating a bit. There were only a dozen or so kind of weak thugs roaming around the town. As far as I could tell, most of the citizens were unharmed.

"Found a bin to call home and set up shop."

"Why'd you settle in this dump?"

It's not that big of a dump. I mean, sure in comparison to New Vegas, but everywhere else is pretty much the same as this.

"There's more to the 188 than meets the eye. Troops move back and forth on 93 all the time, and 95 is how NCR folks come and go from Vegas. No shortage of customers... so long as Legion raids south of here don't get worse, anyways."

"Why's this place called the 188?"

"You do know these old roads were numbered, right? We're standing where the 95 and 93 meet. And 95 plus 93 equals... 188."

95 + 93... Nope, they're math checks out here. Still a stupid name though.

"What do you know about Legion raids?"

"Not much. I hear some folks got killed down by Nelson... or was it Novac?"

We haven't been to Nelson yet.

"I don't know. If they come up this way, me and dad'll go someplace else."

Seems like a decent idea to me.

"Time for me to go."

"Later."

I'm not going to make a huge habit of chatting with random NPC's but they do give some pretty decent background info on the area that they are in.

This is the person we're here to talk to.

You may or may not be familiar with Veronica's voice actor, Felicia Day. She's kind of a TV/internet celebrity who is quite well known, though I'm not exactly sure why, someone else can explain this much better than I can. She has guest starred in a lot of TV shows (Mostly notably in Buffy the Vampire Slayer) according to Wikipedia and also done stuff on the internet like The Guild and the Dragon Age webseries. (Which looked awful last time I checked)

She has done a voice acting for a couple other games, most notably the star in a Dragon Age 2 DLC Mark of the Assassin. (I don't know how good that particular DLC was, as I haven't played it. Curious to know from anyone who has, however.)

"The grave."

I love some of the overdramatic lines you can use in this game. In general, I feel like the player character dialogue is improved from over Fallout 3. Not quite up to the levels of the old Fallout games, mind you.

"Huh. Well, in that case I take it back. You look pretty good, given the circumstances. Well, welcome, then. I'm Veronica, I live in a hole in the ground."

"You live in a hole in the ground?"

"Well, a bunker, if you want to get technical. I think it sounds more interesting my way. But I'm not there much anymore. I'm usually out here picking up food and supplies for my family. Whatever they need."

"So you just leave your family in the bunker?"

"Yeah. I'm not worried. They can handle themselves. But somebody has to get the groceries, know what I mean? And actually these days I think they'd rather have me out here anyway. But that's a whole other story. So, listen, can I ask you something on the level?"

You want me to do a sidequest for you, don't you?

"Go ahead."

"I had a run-in with this group calling themselves the Brotherhood of Steel."

Oh no, not these guys again.

"Pretty strange bunch. Do you know anything about them?"

"[Intelligence 6] They're usually harmless unless you use advanced technology around them."

They aren't the "Lawful Good Paladins of the Wasteland" in this game. In fact, as we'll find out later, they're kind of assholes.

"Well that shouldn't be a problem for me, I can't afford anything like that. Hey, so where are you headed, anyway?"

"Going to see an old friend."

"This is quite a journey you're going on, then. Must be an interesting relationship to have brought you all this way."

You could say that.

"I'll be honest. You're the first person I've run across out here that looks like he can really handle himself."

Really? We aren't anything special.

"There are places I've never been to that'd be too dangerous for just me. What do you think? Maybe we could travel together, help each other out."

"You don't look like much. What do you bring to the table?"

"Heh. Good. That's the look I was going for. Trust me on this one, though. You'll be glad you brought me along."

What do you do? Shoot lasers out of your eyes? Are you really good at negotiating?

...

Can you carry a lot of junk around at least?

"If I turn out to be a burden, we can part ways at any time. No hard feelings."'

"Where are you hoping to go?"

"Oh, nowhere in particular, really. Just hoping to see more of the world. Looking for a fresh perspective. I want to see how different groups have adapted to survive in the Mojave."

Poorly. Better than the Capital Wasteland, at least.

"See if there's something I can learn from."

"Don't you have a family to feed?"

"Like I said, they can handle themselves. And I'm not the only one getting supplies for them. It's a big family."

"Okay, let's travel together."

Why not?

"Now you're talking. One thing you should know, first, though. I asked you about the Brotherhood because I'm one of them."

Makes sense. I suppose running around in full Power Armor would be a bit too obvious.

"I know, I know. But I had to know how you'd react when I told you. We've made a lot of enemies."

The Brotherhood aren't stalwart heroes of land anymore. Well, they weren't that in the earlier games (Arguably) but Fallout 3 really made a point of them being the heroes.

"You still okay bring me along?"

"Actually, I'm more comfortable now that I know you've had some training."

She focuses on melee with her Power Fist. She is really useful in close corridors, but she is horrible with ranged weapons.

"I'm great at punching people. I'm not gonna lie. It's a gift."

Also a fairly funny and likeable character. Like I said, I really like all the companions in this game, Obsidian did a really good job with them.

"Well, thanks for taking a chance on a naive young girl from California with stars in her eyes and a pneumatic gauntlet on her hand. Let's hit the road, huh?"

Veronica is a walking punching machine of death, pretty much.

Here is a better look at her. She wears that robe throughout the entire game if you don't give her something else. I usually kit her out in Power Armor the first chance I get, but obviously we are not in the possession of Power Armor. Yet.

Here is another Quirky ? NPC to chat with.

Oh look, a not completely rude child NPC. What a novel concept.

"Where are your parents, kid? Are you here all alone?"

"I don't have a mama or papa anymore. I see them sometimes when I take off my medicine, but they can't stay. I'm used to being on my own."

That's a weird looking hat-thing you got there.

"What are you selling?"

"Oh, I don't sell things, mister. I sell thoughts."

Okay...

"You sell 'thoughts?'"

"I can take off my medicine and do some thinking. People say it's real interesting. I don't know, because I never hear it. Some people say it's a gift. Other people say that it's the kind of thinking anyone could do if they watched more than they talked. I don't know which is true. I see a lot, I think a lot. There's a lot to hear through the 188, too, that maybe accounts for the thinking."

"What is your "medicine" and how do you take it off?"

"This thing on my head is headache medicine. It works real good, except I can't think when it's on. Really think, I mean."

"Goodbye."

"See you."

That was... enlightening. You can get fortunes from him, but I was stupid and forgot to. Sorry guys, I'll cover it in a mini-update or something.

"I'd like to see what you have for sale."

He's a Gun Runner, so he must have some decent weaponry.

"Am I selling? Yeah. Am I selling to you? No. Sorry to hurt your feelings, but you're small time. Move along."

I guess I'll just take my massive amount of caps (Okay, not massive at all) and shop elsewhere. Why would he turn his away? Is it because our caps smell like rotting Raider arse? That smell is really hard to get out of things you know.

"[Guns 40] I figure a guy like you gets his pick of killing gear."

So now it's a Guns check, rather than a Speech one. Not really sure why, sounds more Speech-y to me.

"[SUCCEEDED] You might be on to something. I like to hang on to any weapons mods I run across..."

We haven't ran across any weapon mods yet, we'll get into that later. It's a very large money sink. New Vegas has a lot of money sinks actually, but you get so many caps in this game it doesn't even matter anyways.

"So you're a Gun Runner?"

"Like you have a clue what that even means."

"Tell me about the Gun Runners."

"The Gun Runners have been putting rapid-fire death-dealing in the hands of anyone who needed to defend himself for over a century."

The Gun Runners were in Fallout 1, you could find them in the Boneyard.

"We're the NCR's #1 supplier of weapons and ammunition. You might call us an unoffical branch of the army."

"What do you do?"

"I'm a salesman. I swing through McCarran and the dam once a week or so to take orders. But lately I spend most of my time in this piss heap."

Again, not really sure what's wrong with this place.

"Ever since the 15 shut down, all caravans come through here - right to me. I check the stock and direct deliveries onward to meet orders. Sure, it stinks to hang out here, but it won't be forever. Plus I can afford a monthly bender on the Strip and still build up my nest egg."

Truly this man is living the dream.

"Tell me about Gun Runner caravans."

"Not much to tell. A brahmin or two loaded up with weapons, and a whole mess of well-armed guards to make sure it ends up where it's supposed to go. One nifty bit though. The gun cases are rigged to explode. So trying to loot one of our caravans doesn't do much good."

It's not like the caravans actually exist in the game world, which is a shame. The Mojave is empty as it is, some actual trading routes maybe getting ambushed by the Legion or raiders would liven things up a bit. There are no random encounters like in Fallout 3, sadly.

"And that's how the NCR stays equipped. The only thing we don't bring in is energy weapons."

"Why don't you deal in energy weapons?"

"We used to. But every caravan carrying them was getting ambushed and wiped out. By someone sophisticated enough to know which was which."

"We think it was the Brotherhood of Steel - those crazies always go hard for energy weapons."

Hey, that's generalizing a bit, don't you think? They also have a hard on for giant hammers.

Oh, and high-tech gauntlets too, don't forget those.

"But the NCR would rather pretend they killed all of them."

"I need to get going."

"Bye."

This picture is to establish that the NCR is stationed here, and that I'm terrible at timing screenshots.

So, back on the road towards Vegas. That billboard is referring to the REPCONN HQ, a slightly less hellish maze that we will eventually have to visit. It's got a section that is kind of like the Museum of Technology from Fallout 3, which is always fun.

Man, somehow I'm starting to miss Fallout 3. (Not cause New Vegas is a bad game, but I just feel nostalgic for some bizarre reason)

The Silver Rush is an energy weapons store that we will probably be completely ignoring this playthrough aside from the questlines involving it. We'll be making extensive use of it during our Energy Weapons character, whatever run that may be.

Why am I talking about things that will happen later? Cause nothing else of note happens along this road. It's uneventful from 188 to Freeside. I guess you can say it's at least well protected. If this was Fallout 3, we would have fought our way through a dozen Super Mutants and a dozen more Raiders by now.

Yup, that's an overpass alright.

These are billboards for all the major casinos in New Vegas. The billboards in this game are in pretty good shape for being 200 years old and all.

This is the Grub' N Gulp Rest Stop. Not much of note here. Lots of brahmin, and a couple of not very notable vendors. We can keep on moving, but while we're here, let's chat with at least one of them.

Hey guys, remember when clean water was such a big deal in Fallout 3? Good times...

"If you're low on caps, I've also got slightly irradiated wasteland water. A little fallout never killed anybody."

Harhar, get it?

"Where do you get your water?"

"The NCR fixed up the pipe network pretty good, and water merchants like me are allowed to have some of it to sell. If we have a water license, of course. Still, it beats the inconvenience of having to trek all the way to the lake to resupply."

An actually functioning pipe system? That's pretty neat.

"Are there many water merchants around here?"

"There's a few independent ones like me, but it's mostly the big trading outfits that deal in water, like the Crimson Caravan Company."

Well, enough of that conversation. I went on for a bit longer asking her about the NCR, the Fiends, etc. but none of it is information we don't already know or are going to brought up in detail soon enough anyway.

The other guy pretty much says the same stuff, sans water.

God that guys helmet is absurd. It looks lame even for a bike helmet.

Pipes!

Guards!

Somehow still functioning monorail tracks!

So now we're just outside of New Vegas-

Where's the door?

We have to go around, don't we?

...

Fuck you, game.

Things around New Vegas are significantly less blown up than some of the outlying areas. There is actually an explanation for that in-game.

Holy shit it's a farm, people aren't scavenging for 200 year old food anymore. I know we've already seen a couple of farms already, but I just wanted to reiterate this fact.

That brown smudge on the horizon is the entrance.

However, before we enter Freeside, we need to make a hard left.

This is Gun Runners. Sitting out here, in the middle of nowhere.

Welcome to the best gun shop in the game. They pretty much have everything here, however you can't get it all right away. More weapons appear as your level increases.

They also have the biggest collection of weapon mods in the game.

"What is this place?"

"This is the New Vegas branch of the Gun Runners, supplying the wasteland with only the finest armaments since 2155."

Apparently, unlike everyone else (Correct me if I'm wrong) the Gun Runners can actually manufacture their guns, rather than scavenge them.

"That's some impressive weaponry. Where did it all come from?"

"All Gun Runner merchandise is constructed on-site."

"How did you get inside there?"

"This kiosk was specially constructed around me to deter theft and assault."

Welp, guess we have nothing to do here right now then. I mean, it's not like we can actually afford an Anti-Material Rifle yet. It's right in there though.

So close, yet so far...

Gun Runners also has a remote companion firing option that Obsidian patched in later because they fucked up the coding that caused companions to disappear and stopped you from getting a new one.

Of course, Obsidian and "Fucked up the coding" are pretty much synonymous. At least a lot of the coding fuck ups are patched in this game.

This is it. Through this gate, we'll gain access to New Vegas, and finally come face to face with Benny. I'm sure they can't drag this particular plotline on any further after this.

Right?
No question regarding this LP today, just wondering what do you guys think of the Kickstater thing Obsidian is planning. In fact, what do you guys think of Kickstarter in general?

Well, do spears and clubs made by tribals count as manufacturing weapons?

Also, I'm pretty sure the machetes and spears used by Caesar's Legion are custom made.

I didn't even know about Kickstarter until the Tim Schaffer thing.

As for Obsidian, this may be a great opportunity for them to create a game without the burden of a publisher who for some reason always enjoy giving Obsidian tight deadlines.

Plus, Tim Cain is now permanately working at Obsidian which is awesome!

Meant to say guns there, not weapons in general. I don't think there's any other faction in the Fallout universe that actually is capable of making their own guns and ammo. Unless you count Ashur's Raiders and the ammo press from The Pitt DLC in Fallout 3.

Yeah, I don't think there is besides the ammo press you mentioned and individuals who make their own weapons (such as Elijah).

I have a friend who played the Dragon Age II DLC. His take ?Unless you really, REALLY liked Dragon Age II, you will not like this. It?s all the problems with the game, times ten.? I haven?t played them, but he?s a pretty good judge of these things.

Speaking of which: Did you play DA:II? What did ya think of it?

"The Gun Runners have been putting rapid-fire death-dealing in the hands of anyone who needed to defend himself for over a century."

So, like, the NRA? (And I say that as a member)

Yup, that's an overpass alright.
Where?s the city on it?

They?re my favorite devs, so I look forward to seeing what they plan to do.

I did a couple playthroughs of the game. I have played the Exiled Prince and Legacy DLC, but I lost interest in the game after playing through Legacy.

It was an alright game with some pretty poor writing. I don't think it deserved nearly as much hate as it got, but the game is obviously rushed and just isn't that fun on repeat playthroughs. I could forgive some of the poor writing in games like Mass Effect 2 (There were some parts of the game that were really well written though) because it was a fun game to play. Dragon Age 2 was just to repetitive to fall under that category, though the Legacy DLC was actually really quite good when it came to enemy encounters.

The companions were pretty poor (Except for Varric, Varric was awesome) and the main plotline got extremely silly at times.

It was a forgettable game that was fun when I played it though. Can't really hate it because I've much, much worse games.

One thing I found odd was that it was easy and possible to get everyone to be your friend without too much effort. Varric was almost a full ally at the end of the first act.

I gave it a few playthroughs. I won't finish my fifth one through the game likely, as the DA:O save I used was super buggy. Which is a shame.

I wonder how they're going to do on Dragon Age III when it comes out? Didn't they say they were looking at Skyrim?

Oh, and just wondering: What games do you consider worse, if I may ask? Not that I disagree with you, it's just that DA:II is considered a low-bar for games

They said something along those lines, yeah. Honestly, they just go take a look at Dragon Age: Origins and make the sequel something like that. Or they could go the Mass Effect 2 route, and just turn it up into a straight up Action RPG/Hack'n'Slash with RPG elements, that'd be pretty fun.

I don't really have a lot of bile reserved up for games, honestly. Which is odd cause I can get hella pissed off at books and movies, but usually if a game is just unenjoyable, I stop playing it. My low bar for games would probably be Brotherhood of Steel, oddly enough but that's more because it does terrible things to its series more than anything of else. If you look at it other than that, at worst it's a bad/mediocre shooter.

I was told by someone that DA:II was judged the same way Invisible War was compared to DX:1. Whether that's fair or not is hard to say.

Also, I got Fallout 1+2 on GoG. Any tips? I might install them soon.

I can call up a few that are much MUCH worse than DAII. Big Rigs and ET both come to mind.

DAII was an average game at best, but it wasn't an absolutely horrible game.

Don't be a hero and think you can do everything right from the start :p

Also, don't try to be a jack-of-all-trades...specialise, and pick your perks and traits carefully!

Save a lot, especially before doing quests, not because of bugs but because you'll probably die.

Also, don't worry about radiation too much and always have at least two doses of Rad-X on you...you'll know why if you do the main quest (for Fallout 1 that is).
