The thing that disappointed me wasn't that it was so different from the first Bioshock, it was that it was so similar, only now in the sky.

As much as I disagree with the creator (how this is even possible without sounding pretentious is beyond me), I do see his point. I mean to him, it may be an idea, but for his base, they interpreted it in a rather different way. Losing all of the above options such as big daddies and splicers and ADAM will be a difficult concept when it is so thoroughly ingrained as a gameplay mechanic and even the backstory of the city (which is also not present).

I will think of this as a spiritual sequel. Not exactly Bioshock, but close enough to earn the same title.
I agree, and I really respect Levine and his team (remember, they had no part in BioShock 2, a game which I already forgot) for really trying to push more of a concept then a game. The original BioShock was a very different, very sureal game, that came off as very smart and mature under the FPS shooting and stuff. It really explored the various depths (pun intended) of human psyche and a bunch of other pretentious sounding stuff. What would happen if you got all the brilliant minds in the world to create a utopia? You'd get a dystopia.

I'm probably giving it too much credit, but overall I get what Levine is trying to say, and pretty much agree with you completely. For the developers, it's the exploration of new concepts. For us gamers, it looks like a completely different game trying to cash in on the "BioShock" logo. But I haven't play the game, so I'm really giving it way too much credit now.

Very interesting observations, giving a shout out to you here. Makes me feel smart reading it :D

Overall, I'm very interested in BioShock: Infinite (I really want to say Infinity...) and will definitely be looking forward to its release.

I wish that they changed the title, or maybe made it a subtitle or something. This new game, while pretty, just seems goofy and ridiculous compared to Bioshock 1. The new rationalization over why this game is supposed to be good reminds me about how we were told Bioshock 1 was too good because it makes Bioshock 2 look bad...

Really, the only thing they want to take away from Bioshock past is a politically extreme setting and an unbelievable geographic location? (Even more unbelievable set at the turn of the century with no Adam to fill convenient gaps.)

Give me a Bioshock where you stumble upon Rapture decades after the first two games, and the remaining residents have become horrifically mutated beasts devoid of nearly all traces of humanity... That would be a cool game. But I guess you couldn't half-ass a political subplot into that sequel, could you?

Again, I hardly know any of the details. I'm not going to make a call at this time regarding the game.

The game is called Bioshock. It's quite clear that the game was about severely and dangerously altering biotic structures, as seen in it's title, Bio-shock.
Or it may be called Bioshock because...

The term bio in Greek can mean "one's life", so if we follow this line of thought Bioshock can mean "a shock to one's life." And as shock can mean "to strike or jar with intense surprise, horror, disgust, etc." Then Bioshock is an appropriate name.

Boy, people just do not want to like this game, huh?

Levine was the man behind the whole idea of the original Bioshock, so I think we should take his word for what he thinks his series is about. It may just be a rationalization, but who cares? Let's just wait and play the game when it comes out. Maybe, with all this complaining, they will change the title, like what the inFamous creators did with Cole McGrath.

I understand why people want more Rapture.. Wait, no I don't. I got a little disappointed to see them work on a game with the same exact idea, except *gasp*, it's set above the clouds instead of in the bottom of the sea. Let's not even get into the sheer ridiculousness of the setting. We'll see how it works, though. And I really hope that after this they just bugger off with their bioshocks. The first one was good, no need to whore it out completely.
Yes, because a sprawling underwater city several fathoms below the surface isn't a ridiculous setting at all.

(unless you were being sarcastic, in which case I apologize)

I don't understand why BioShock has to be set in Rapture, there's a whole universe to explore in the world of BioShock, and Levine and his team should be free to explore. Remember, BioShock 2 was given to a completely different studio than the ones who did the first BioShock, don't knock this game off because you think they're trying to milk the franchise, which I believe they aren't.

To me Bioshock was about a utopian society gone wrong with hulking creaures to make you feel weak, superpowers and an evil dictator. Give me these and a very young Andrew Ryan in Columbia Heights and I'll be more then happy. Hell just give me the hulking beasts and superpowers and a great story and I'll accept it as a Bioshock entry. Rapture is one place and considering the main premise is utopia in the toilet, they can choose anytime, any place, hulking beasts and superpowers.

I only want to see a young Andrew Ryan in the game for continuity and it seems like if he lived there as a kid it would have been his inspiration for Rapture. Think about it...

1. You realise Levine created the first game and had nothing to do with the second game, right?

2. You've seen a few screens and a fucking trailer, don't pretend you know all themes of the game. Or much about the game at all for that matter.

[small]I'm really starting to dislike other gamers.[/small]
What part of "supersoldier with exposed internal organs" did you miss?

The second game was bad enough, now this jerkoff is acting like everything that made bioshock good is irrelevant to future games because he completely botched his handling of rapture.

Its a great Francise, with some great history, and future to follow! I really hope this new one will be cool, and will add to it

Oh, I saw it, I just chose to ignore it when I realised everything you'd written had been pulled out of your arse hole. You've seen no gameplay, and you know very litte about the game, yet you're making massive statements about how Bioshock is positively ruined by this new game.

"he completely botched his handling of rapture."

When did he?

Am I the only one seeing this game as ridiculous?
I can forget Bioshock 2 if everyone wants to not be reminded of it, but come on.
All they've done is change the setting from an Underwater City to a City in the Sky. It seems like all they've done is changed a gimmick.
I mean what is the next game gonna be set? Middle of the Earth? In Space?

The "New Big Daddies" seem like giant puppets with tuxedos and that's enough for me! But I also like how the main character is a detective and I'm really interested in what they do about weapons and the time period ( the 1920's, I believe ).
