I liked the first two well enough and I hope that this one is just as fun.

Outfit looks a little stupid, but that's really my only complaint about the trailer. I'm really surprised it's in English already since I assumed it was gonna be totally in Japanese and we were gonna have to wait for a translation sometime after Japan has the game already.

Nonetheless, I'm picking it up.

I'm honestly surprised they are bothering with this. Final Fantasy XII was a better game and it only got Revanent Wings for the DS. Where the heck is Final Fantasy Vs XIII?

*Reads title and gets out his disc smashing axe.

Okay, I'm ready to deal with it. XD

To be fair, it feels like Final Fantasy got stuck in a rut somewhere after they hit Final Fantasy X-2. They could easily have a Final Fantasy where the story centers around characters living in a low magic world, where they use creative gadgetry to mimic spell effects and Bahamut and the summons are names given to various weapon systems, or a world where magic is so rampant that no one really has a physical form anymore.

Sum of the story: More risk taking, less borrowing from older titles that did the same setting and characters better.
Well, I'm currently in the process of actually writing my own Final Fantasy-esque style game that is going to be a bit more character focused and less a fight between good and evil (Although i will admit there is a main villain, but he has reasons for acting the way he does) as it is about a group just trying to keep itself alive in the midst of various agenda's of all sorts of factions while trying to reach their own individual goals...Currently part way through a second rewrite which may become a third and my script isn't even done yet. Unfortunately, being practically the only guy writing a script while contending with university is quite hard (I've had some help and feedback, but it's only been on one or two scenes). Luckily i have the plot outline, setting and characters all thought out so i don't have to worry about that..although i had to restructure when some events would take place as one character revelation seemed to happen a bit too early into the plot for my liking.

I have gotten really off topic with all this, but hey authors are nothing if corroborators with one another xD

XIII is the only game I gave up on despite being literally right at the end. My bullshit tolerance just wasn't that high. The characters lacked a complete arc, the combat was rather meh, the environments were forgettable, and the story was terrible. XIII-2 took all these problems and made them ten times worse, adding new ones like making everything fucking ridiculous, possessing even worse characters who rather than lacking an end to their arc simply have no arc at all, and removed any remaining complexity from the leveling system. The only good new thing was the Pokemon elements, which were mediocre. I expect this game to suck horrifically.

Holy fuck her new costume and shades look really fucking dumb.
Also, is it just me or is that framerate absolutely awful?

Either way, eh. Never had an interest in the Xlll series, excluding KFJ's LP of Xlll-2.
If nobody I like makes an LP of this I might get it when it's on the cheap, but I doubt I'll be going on about how amazing it is any time soon.
I have come to the conclusion that we seem to have extremely similar tastes in let's play. And that I will probably be taking the same route as you. I'd like to see just how this horror story concludes, but I certainly will not pay full price for more of this shit.

I doubt there are a great deal of people who are at this point emotionally attached to Lightning.

Then again I did think the same about Ezio when I heard Revelations was coming out. Oh how wrong I was.

Still, at this point I can't get excited for another FF game until I see something that isn't the same old trailer with a different backdrop and a new costume.

So am I the only one that completely fell out of touch with FF after 6?

So the trailer made it seem less like Majora's Mask and more like some crossbreed between a Tales series game and Mirror's Edge.

I can't really tell just from this, but it almost looks like they changed up the combat which would certainly be nice. On the other hand it appears we are now somehow in a totally different setting from XIII and i'm not sure why, but I also didn't play XIII-2 so that would explain why I'm confused.

Man i really want them to move on to a new world.

I hate the whole FF13 setting. Well not really the setting, but how it was presented. I was able to follow the FF13 plotline when i played the game, but i can't remember one thing about it. Maybe that was in part because most of the characters were not very memorable, but i think a good reason is that square decided to make the story so annoyingly convoluted, it just destroyed the world. To me the whole setting is just a weird blur. I tried to play 13-2 but i got put off because i could not remember a single thing from 13. I heard that it had a time travel plot too, so that could not have helped anything.

I really think the current writers should take K.I.S.S to heart.

I am a bit interested in this game though. I've never been a huge fan of combat in FF games, and this one looks like they trashed the ATB system for just straight up action. Hey maybe if the gameplay is good i'll forgive the overly complicated story.

Admittedly, I never finished FF13 simply because of the corridor world that happens for the first thirty or so hours. I just got tired of doing nothing but moving in one direction, which is the only reason I stopped playing it. I might boot it up again soon and continue the rest of the game, since I enjoyed everything else about the game.

Just wrap leather around her barbie doll figure and throw on some stupid anime collars. The latter is the reason I loathed Snow (and besides his stupid name). Lightning (seen to the right) is wearing her freaking Final Fantasy 13 jacket for pants! This is the most moronic design I've ever seen! Ever heard of the concept less is more? This dwarfs Tidus's jump suit. Talk about degeneration.

In addition, she's the most static, uninteresting character of this late generation in consoles. She's just a plot-placement now. And Square Enix has framed an entire trilogy around this concept!

Final Fantasy XIII is the most disappointing game I have ever played, on any console, period. They could have salvaged it had they kept Oerba Yun Fang (left) in the sequel, but like predictable fan-fiction writers, they went with a bogus time travel arc and two awkward tweens.

Which character looks more exotic? Which looks more regal, interesting, and courageous?

If I were a Final Fantasy fan, I would be very skeptical of the future; that is, unless you enjoy J-pop. Then by all means, revel in the mediocrity.

How is this AAA game going to compete with Bioshock:Infinite? Last Guardian? Last of Us? What about the plethora of PS3 exclusives sprinkled across 2013?

You don't bring down the status of a franchise in one or two bad moves; it takes years of horrible decisions to slowly dry out a franchise like Final Fantasy. Congratulations Square Enix, your Japanese roots have hammered the final nail in the coffin.

If you're into final fantasy, you can't possibly support them. Fandom has ruined this franchise. Be vocal, and above all things, take action with your wallet, or the withholding thereof.

Her outfit looks shit, her character still seems shit, the game looks shit. If there's anything I have to "deal" with, it's my rapidly dwindling faith in SE, which feels as though it's already been worn down to a frayed thread.

You stopped at the best spot.
I dunno, 9 is fantastic, arguably the best in the series (though I suppose that could be said for most of them). Though, beyond 9, I'd personally say you could do without the rest.

So I've heard the FF genera has been rather, running long as of late. And it seems it shall continue to do so.

Now I thought I'd be a jerk and keep what I hope to be some form of relevance.

*Sigh* Maybe FF-14 I'll be able to play again.

truth be told, i would pick lightning. One, im a huge armor slut and lightnings armor looks pretty nice (the jacket pants im not a big fan of, it is like she got some fashion tips from Rufus in FF7). Two, Fang is the single most boring character in a FF game. Hell i didnt even remember her name until your post mentioned it.

Also, I would argue has ANY JRPG game done very well this console generation? Not that i can think of. The only ones i can think of are kinda outside the usual JRPG and more into the Strategy RPGs like Valkyrie Chronicles. And sadly FF13 was one of the best this generation for the...traditional?...JRPG(that is not the high endorsement that it sounds btw).

that said, FF13 should not have had a sequel. The story was wrapped up pretty nicely, and then the sequel was....kinda a mess in terms of story.
