It's no secret I've fallen in love with the Yakuza series over the past couple years. I even did a whole series playthrough on this very forum not to long ago. Last year Ichiban's adventure continued in Hawaii while taking Kiryu on a trip down memory lane.

Unfortunately Goro Majima doesn't have any memories, at least not when this game begins. He washes ashore for unknown reasons and is immediately thrown into a world of pirates. Sort of. He wakes on a small island somewhere off shore of Hawaii. A young boy finds him and helps him to his feet, but within seconds they are attacked by pirates and Majima does what he does best. Jason brings Majima home as thanks and Majima learns that if a Yakuza ship wrecked here, then he was probably trying to get to Nele island which was a huge plot point in Infinite Wealth. So Majima decides to ask around for a ride, problem is the only ride available is the pirate ship nearby. So you beat the shit out of the pirates and take over the ship, and adventure awaits!

The mainline Like a Dragon series has shifted into turn based JRPG's full stop. However the spin off games like Judgement and Like a Dragon Man Who Forgot His Name, remain action brawler games. And Pirate Yakuza is the same, with one big time addition.

A fucking jump button.

Like it's stupid to say but the series has never had a jump button until now, and that one thing along changes the feel of combat so spectacularly it's crazy. Majima jumping around beating people mid-air only to land on another dude and chaining combos left, right, up and down. It's awesome. And for a fire iteration it's also not clunky at all, the jump slides into the combat smoothly and there isn't any janky or floaty control feel to it. Majima hasn't been playable as a fighter since Yakuza 0, and he feels nothing like he did in that game, he feels better but of course he would, the series has gone through two engine changes since 0 and the modern tech simply polishes the combat out to a wonderful degree.

With the combat being awesome, the rest of the game is a Yakuza game, side activities, mini games, the whole nine-yards. All of that is here in a shorter adventure but still with enough packed in to add another 10-15 hours of content if you wanna be a completionist.

Ryu Ga Goku can't seem to make a shitty game can they? Thank fuck for consistancy.

Im not convinced that game was as bad as people say.
It's not the worst game ever, but it's clearly one of those games that was made off the zombie trend going on and not much stands out about it. Other than being from SEGA. Even then, the game is really not that unique for it in that category either

So I skip infinite wealth (like a dragon was very meh in my book, pointless combat is bizarre story decision), so I don't have a problem with them re using asset, so I'll probably pick it up at some point and play it.

This game's a piece of garbage. What an absolutely overhyped shit piece this turned out be. The fuck? How are people liking this dragged out, half-baked, hyper armor/skill tree collect-a-thon with dumbass pirate ships?

I turned this shit off after 4 hours. Not buying RGG's next piece of shit game.
