Now this is a rather big question to ask so let me narrow the question.

What the title says but I when I mean 2D I don't mean purely 2D games such as Castlevania Symphony of the Night and the Mega Man X games though those games are also included.

I also want any mention of games that have at least 2D sprites yet uses 3D backgrounds case in point games like Breath of Fire 3 and the Xenogears.

So anyone willing to make a list?

Silhoette Mirage (made by the amazing Treasure)

Vandal Hearts(strategy rpg)

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

Wild Arms

Strider 2

Mega Man 8

Castlevania Chronicles

Valkyrie Profile

That's what I found when I peeped into one of my old psx cases. I'll post more when I find the others.

A. Well considering the vastness that is the PS1 library, I don't know where to start.

B. What can't I just a guy who's an enthusiat of 2D Sprite Playstation 1 games?

...only if you like platformers built off of extreme trial and error. I absolutely hated it.

This guy right here... He gets it.

Also, Heart of Darkness. Frustrating, sure, but if you like beautifully animated sprites and prerendered backgrounds, you can't go wrong.

Final Fantasy Origins

that's about all the ones I know of. It's good so far.

I really only have three games for my playstation and they are

Final Fantasy Origins
Final Fantasy VII
Bushido Blade

So two out of the three I own are 3-D and not 2-D although origins does technically count as two games.

Nobody going to mention Rayman?

Parappa the Rapper also did the "2D sprite rendered in 3D space" thing.

Aaaah, Oddworld has already been mentioned I see. Classic games you should definitely play.

I guess I'll add a few:

Tomba - Very much a blend of 3d backgrounds with 2d sprites. Pretty fun side scrolling platformer.

Broken Sword - A classic point and click adventure game. PS1 version is pretty solid.

Road Rash - The 1st game is entirely sprites if I remember correctly. Holds up pretty well and is a solid fun racer to play.

Legend of Mana. That's a nice action-JRPG from Squaresoft with co-op support.
