LittleBigPlanet 2 Adds Vita Support Next Week

The next batch of DLC for LittleBigPlanet 2 adds Cross-Controller support and space pirates.

It's been nearly two years since LittleBigPlanet 2 was released for the PS3, and Sony is giving gamers a reason to pop it back in again next week. The adorable platformer is getting new downloadable content that adds new story levels, allowing Sackboy to experience another adventure with the help of some space pirates. The additional content contains more than typical new stages and items, though; if you download the Cross-Controller Pack, you'll be able to use your Vita as a second screen controller for LBP 2.

Gamers who have a Vita, a PS3, and LittleBigPlanet 2 will be able to use the handheld as a controller starting next Tuesday, December 18. Aside from adding "a whole second screen where action can take place," LBP 2's Cross-Controller gameplay will utilize the Vita's front and back touch screens, which "allows for an unimaginable number of new ways to play." You'll also be able to create and share your own Cross-Controller levels, with the DLC including some new tools with which to do so.

The quirky, varied gameplay of LittleBigPlanet 2 seems like it will be a good fit for such an unusual control scheme, so it's only appropriate that it's the first game to implement Cross-Controller play. The LittleBigPlanet 2 Cross-Controller Pack will be available on the PSN next Tuesday in North America, with a $4.99 price tag.

Well, I own a PS3, a PS Vita, and LittleBigPlanet 2. So look at that.

Wait, they're charging for it? Eh... maybe I'll look into it eventually, then. You'd think the whole Cross-Controller thing would at least be something they want to get out there for free since it's the whole tech-demo aspect that does similar things to what the Wii-U might do.

$4.99 is a kick in the teeth. Yeah Sony, never mind that we pay through the nose for Vita stuff as it is, but charging us for features like that is a joke. This feature is one of the reasons why I bought a Vita, sure as fuck wasn't for the game library or pricing, you'd think that maybe buying a Vita, LBP1, LBP2, and LBP Vita might be enough to warrant this feature going for free.

Way to say thanks for the support, huh!

You're upset about being charged $4.99? You're getting a whole load of extra levels and lots of new ways to play. It's additional content.

They're a business. You buy their products when you want to. You don't 'support' a business. Ever. Unless you're donating money to them, charitably?

I don't need or want more levels though. I haven't even scratched the surface of LBP2, same goes for LBP Vita. As I said, the main reason for my buying a Vita was to take advantage of PS3 games that support it, as a peripheral, as an alternative controller - that was widely advertised and marketted. Now that this feature is just being introduced we have to pay for it. Sorry, but IMO I paid for this feature when I paid for a Vita, Sony should appreciate every last Vita sale and try and encourage people to support it, and them.

Why don't Sony give the Vita play mode as a free update?, because they are a business as you rightfully point out - now why on earth didn't I just buy a 3DS instead, and enjoy more games at cheaper prices like a helluva lot of people. Every business in the world has to respect it's customers, it's patient and loyal customers who made it the business that it is. Ergo... if this is how it's going to be, they can keep the PS4.
