This song just came up in my collection and it got me to wonder if ol' Ricky Martin was actually singing about a girl he met or perhaps heard about once. Does anyone know if this is so?
Freddie Mercury of Queen who was also openly gay wrote the song "Killer Queen" as a homage to a high class call girl he knew, but I don't remember if the identity was openly divulged. This in response to some theories that he wrote it about himself in drag. His apparent motive was that he wanted people to know that hookers could be classy people, as opposed to the usual stereotypes he saw portrayed. It's been theorized but never commented on that this same person might have been where the band actually took it's name from, and also potentially who Freddie Mercury wished he actually was, but that goes increasingly off the deep end. I believe the general bit about a "high class call girl" and "hookers being classy people" is actually on the song's Wikipedia page though.
I don't know much about Ricky Martin as I'm not a huge fan, but if your really curious you could research his known associates, and what other bands he might have worked with over the years, uncredited or otherwise. One thing about music is that it can be surprisingly incestuous, even nowadays when agents try and control everything. Sometimes you run into odd facts, or things that just suddenly click, such as when you find out that a song is actually a homage or reference to another performer. It's also possible that if you read up on the song he's said somewhere who it's based on if anyone, or what he was thinking when he wrote it. I mention Freddie Mercury mostly as an example of someone whose music I've read up on and found out what some of it was in reference to, since I am a fan even if I don't agree with his particular lifestyle choices.
