So I occasionally see this phrase on the internet and for some reason it really pisses me off but I dont know why. Does it irritate anyone else when you see it on a social networking site when someone writes "I just ________ lol im such a nerd".

Why does it piss me off?

Becuase like us true Nerds, you dispise the Hipsters who think they're nerds becuase they bought a mac or an iPod and say lol and post on facebook. My advice is to take over the world and make it a crime punishable by catapult.

This sounds like a lovely idea. I hope this happens soon. I'm tired of seeing it.

Well, it doesn't piss me off, but I'd say you're just geared differently towards the matter than me.

Your avatar... Is it from a game called Small Arms? I'm probably getting that wrong, and I apologize in advance.

My biggest problem with it is people like us would get made fun of in middle school and high school for being "nerds". Then suddenly it's cool to do nerdy things?

Or a, to the death, fight vs. a krogan warlord.
OT:
Yes that does get on my nerves too, most of the time they have nothing to do with nerds.

Pretty much this. Nerd 'chic' has got to be the most annoying thing ever, especially because I see the same girls who would laugh at me ("-because who reads for FUN? EW READING!" "Games are for boys.") are now getting giant hipster glasses and have gameboys and act like it's how they've always been.

Although it's been dying down quite a bit from what I've seen. 'Nerdy' stuff is still popular as evidenced by some of the products in stores like Hot Topics, Spencers, etc but it's not the huge seller it used to be. Although it's gained a following with kids way too young to know what a gameboy even is for some reason. Guess they saw their older siblings and decided to follow the trend too late?

I generally don't mind it because what constitutes being "normal" varies from person to person, and thus what is eccentric or "nerdy" varies as well. What does irk me is when people do common activities, like reading a novel, and treat it as if it were the "nerdiest" thing in the world.

Maybe that's just my opinion.

I know what you mean OP. One of my good friends from the high school days thinks that any sort of activity apart from drinking, partying or shopping = nerd. A worrying number of her social networking status' amount to "I'm reading a book and I'm not even being forced too!! OH EMM GEE, SUCH A NERRRD!!!11!"

I've seen this quite a bit and I will say that it does bother me.... However, it is fun to start talking to those people about true nerd stuff and confusing them beyond all recognition.

Well it annoys me. They either use it to identify that it's bad and take the piss, or take the claim seriously when I doubt they could do so much as name all the Star Wars movies.

However I don't have any problems with people that actually want to get into the culture. I actually find it cute in girls, because it can make me feel important, and as I show them things they're getting closer to me.

We were nerds before being nerds were cool.
WE are the hipsters

But seriously, I think its because they're being so fake about it, so it annoys you.

They're setting themselves up for a majestic put-down, and you only have yourself to blame for not sealing the deal.
