Always glad to spread the word.
Blue Oyster Cult is a lite-metal band that started in the early 70s, though they were active under other names since 1967. They are most famous for a 1976 song titled Don't Fear the Reaper and also brought us the greatest song about a rampaging Japanese monster in Godzilla(1978).
Most of BOC's catalog includes songs that tell epic tales of the Occult, science fiction and dark fantasy epics, many based on the works of popular authors such as Michael Moorcock and John Shirley. Also the occasional true story tune such as Then Came the Last Days of May and Hot Rails to Hell or just plain old tributes to rocking out like Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll.
Some specific favorites include:
Veteran of the Psychic Wars about a world where wars are fought with psychics instead of guns
The Vigil, about a UFO cult waiting to be taken to the stars
The Great Sun Jester where a man becomes a cosmic god-like entity
Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver, the only song I know of about a Black Hole
All the songs that eventually went into their Imaginos album to make a story about a man chosen by the 7 gods of fate to assist them in directing the history of the world.
Heck they even have a song about the world's first jet-propelled fighter plane with ME262.
Give em a try.
