Just letting you know that there's now a new forum board that will be used to house threads related to current events, be they political or otherwise.

https://v1.escapistmagazine.com/forums/index/707-Current-Events

Probably 99% of the politics threads that get created are related to current or ongoing newsworthy events, so this new forum is where those threads will be hosted from now on.

Please note the new forum is not just for threads of a political nature, ie: it's not just a 1:1 replacement for the retired R&P board.
'Current Events' is to be used for discussions pertaining to anything newsworthy that doesn't fit into any other forum, including gaming-related current events where applicable. For example, a discussion thread about lootbox legislation, or a gaming publisher acting dumb, etc, would also be suitable content for the new forum.

Anyway, enjoy!

I do hope next is updating the 'Forums' dropdown list, cause currently getting to the 'Current Events' forum is a bit complicated.

Multiple defunct sub forums are still listed in that drop down.

Where do we post political threads that don't directly relate to current events?

I've added a bookmark (I suspect its probably going to be the most high-traffic forum).

Hey Topaz. Thanks to all who got this done.

The gender/society norms thread is still here. I'm assuming because it not news but a question about a specific topic. Is that correct?

Smart move in calling the new place "Current Events", cuz politics is a dirty word.

Off-Topic.

The goal here wasn't to segregate or quarantine all political threads, but to offload the bulk of the threads that were crowding out the rest of the off-topic threads.

The threads that you're describing, while they do exist, only seem to appear in fairly insignificant numbers, and shouldn't cause the same level of unease and inconvenience as the other threads did.

That's correct, see above.

I remember them saying the same thing about GID too, - about how it wasn't meant for just 'that' other topic and how they wanted it to serve a greater purpose than that. And look how that turned out...

Not meaning to be rude or ungrateful, as it's nice having a new forum for these things, but I'm just saying that if I wanted to make a thread about a "gaming publisher acting dumb" I probably wouldn't be inclined to post my thread amongst a bunch of Trump threads.
You can say that 'Current Events' isn't supposed to be just a reskinned R&P, but that relies on the people using it in the way you intended, and I don't see that happening in practice.

Thanks for reopening R&P. Better for those who like to discuss politics and better for those who don't.

Are we still supposed to use the [politics] tag in thread titles if we think the discussion will largely be about politics when creating threads in Current events and/or Off topic?

I understand you guys might not use that forum as intended, but you can at least try. You can post about gaming related issues in Off-Topic, I don't see a problem with that if you don't want to host that discussion in Current Events where it's mostly political. Mainly, I did not want to use the R&P name again for the forum. I'd like to see more topics in Current Events than just threads about Trump all the time, but that's up to you guys to make that happen and make the place inviting for others to come discuss things.
Trump is current events. Trump is politics. Ya know, Obama got talked about way more than he used to between 2008-2016. The only reason he stays as discussed as he is now is because...Trump.

Like, I dont know what people expect.

More than aware Trump is Current Events, but I don't necessarily think we need to have a thread for every stupid thing he says though. We know he's gonna say stupid things all the time, so make a megathread for it instead of discussing every little thing he does. There's more going on in the world that's not directly related to Trump that's worth discussing.
I assure you, I think about making more topics than I ever actually do.

A mega-thread is ignorable. I dont want ignorable.

That 'stupid thing' is affecting people, most people in the world. Like, that is the biggest peeve I have with people who want to downplay or ignore politics, this isnt just a game, this is our lives, our livelyhood, our very rights as people.

Every. Single. One of Us. Should be absolutely concerned about this stuff! Do you ignore a catastrophe at your door just because it is unpleasant? 'Lets ignore the hurricane outside, Id rather play games on my phone'.?

This is important and EVERYONE needs to take it seriously, or atleast let those who do take it seriously do so.

Trump is NOT just some random asshole on the internet, he literally is getting people killed, he is literally eroding human rights for tons of us, and to not care is to be ok with that...

I didn't say "don't talk about it" nor that I don't care, Saelune.

I said, maybe we don't need a thread every time the guy runs his mouth on Twitter. I don't consider everything he says an "event". I consider when he goes to meet with the leaders in North Korea an event, or when he wants to ban Vaping an event, or if he threatens war against Iran an event. I don't consider him getting mad at a celebrity an event anymore, it's kinda the norm for him.

You have the Current Events forum to talk about these subjects now. If I, or the mods, catch you pushing it in other threads, like the super freshness thread, where it's not the topic, action will be taken.
I didnt say that YOU dont care, but plenty of others dont.

I didnt put those topics into Off-Topic until R&P was taken away. As long as Current Events isnt randomly taken away, there should not be a problem.

But everything is political, so dont be surprised if politics show up in 'surprising' places. And yes, I mean where it is still very much on-topic of whatever is being discussed. I understand that 'Whats your favorite ice cream flavor' is not the place to go 'Trump murders babies'. But 'gender norms' IS a political topic. And with CE being not specifically the political forum, it does mean that political topics can still pop up elsewhere.

And I am not the one who decided to turn that 'Super Freshness' topic into an excuse to personally attack others.

I wouldnt still be here if I didnt like this place. Yes, I am cynical about each person who comes in and says they will fix everything, but so far you atleast seem to be actually doing stuff, so credit for that.
