I'm a very picky gamer, I hate puzzles, I hate racing, I hate baby sitting missions, and I hate zombies. So yes, I hated L4D2, I hated Portal, and so on.

I love games like Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect, Terraria, Minecraft, KOTOR, State of Decay (the only zombie game I liked due to the RPG/Resource gather mechanics) Fallout, Dragon's dogma and so on. I've even played unknown indie gems such as Neo Scavenger.

I disliked Never Winter nights because it felt the same for the entire time I had played it, a sword of +1 would feel no different from a kickass sword of +1 because they all feel like generic sword of + nothing. I'm excited for Star Bound (the spiritual successor to Terraria, in space) Witcher 3, the newest dragon age if it's not complete shit, and new mass effect games when they eventually come out.

I'm looking for gamers who love to introduce people to games they might not know of, as i'm looking for stuff to play. Preferably a game where I sink 300 hours of my time into like DA:O.

Any ideas?

Remember that I love resource gathering and RPG elements.

For a shorter experience you could try Bastion, trying to find materials to upgrade weapons might suit your tastes.

Borderlands 2 might not be your cup of tea, the different gun manufacturers have different styles but the difference between a level 1 and level 50 pistol is only in the stats unless you find a unique.

The Elder Scrolls may be to your liking, travelling the country in order to find an unique ore vein for a suit of armour was one of my treasured memories of Skyrim.

Two games that are a little outside the box are FTL and Space Pirates And Zombies, both are space sims where you wander about collecting weapons and loot but FTL is a rogue-like while SPAZ is a top down shooter.

Bioshock could also be counted but the RPG aspect is on the low side.

Thanks for the response.

Anyways, i've played them all and loved them all! Besides.... SPAZ.
In fact, that's a name i've seen a lot and heard of a lot, but have never actually followed up on finding out what it is.
I'll take a look at SPAZ and i'll still be looking out for other games.

All I can say is Mount and Blade: Warband. The game is, what I consider, RPGs in its truest form. You can be a merchant, a bandit, with mods a soldier in an army, a mercenary, a king, a noble, and so much more. The game is played on a large map with a punch of armies and groups traveling about, but it switches to actually gameplay when a battle happens.

If you get it, some Mods you need to check out are:
A Clash of Kings (game of thrones)
Perisno (fantasy mod)
Prophecies of Pendor
1257 AD (medieval europe)
Floris Expanded (vanilla game with a lot of mods)
Brytenwaldia (Britain after the fall of rome)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (very anime based mod)
Shogun (feudal japan)

You've played most of them? Nice.

Here is the Steam Store page for SPAZ.

Ahh, we got mixed up with the acronym then. How do you feel about ARPG's?

Not too sure, I haven't delved into ARPG's much as far as I know.
I'm up for pretty much anything though.

EDIT: I just noticed some typos of mine and they're bothering the hell out of me now, they'll forever be immortalized inside of a quote.

Yahtzee's new game, Consuming Shadow. It's an RPG with survival horror (emphasis on survival, as in managing health, sanity, bullets, and heroin), a dungeon crawl focus, and no puzzles aside from a fairly straightforward logic challenge. You can beat it in an hour, but it's the sort of game you want to play again and again and again.

It's kind of like Rogue Legacy and FTL mixed together. (Also, FTL and Rogue Legacy would be good. :))

You mean "should'v"? I've fixed it in my posts.

While not as much of an RPG and its more the skills that that are the main modifiers, Torchlight 2 is one one of the better ARPG's out there.

Grim Dawn is another contender, while in still in Alpha (only the first act is playable) the devs have confirmed that there is at least one choice in that act that will affect the second which will be released later this month. It was created by the former devs of Iron Lore who made Titan Quest and its considered a spritual successor (in gameplay), it being set in a alternate Victorian setting compared to Titan Quests ancient Greece.

Which part of the RPG experience do you enjoy the most?

EDIT: Forgot about Jade Empire!

I've played Torchlight 2, liked it, but it's not my preferred cup of tea.
I love games like Dragon Age, or some RPGs that let you watch your wealth grow, I like the loot hoarding aspect.

These may seem like really odd suggestions, but I'm focusing on your point that you like resource gathering.

I've sunk a ton of time in the past to Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Spore; a lot of that time towards the end of both games' lifespan with me was just pootling about the game world/galaxy(!) taking part in the resource trading/gathering aspect: drugs in the former and spice in the latter. Rather simple systems in both - just a case of locate, buy low, sell high - but damn if they didn't keep me playing for longer than I would've otherwise.

Apart from terraforming planets to expand my empire, the most fun I had in Spore (deeply flawed game though it is) was just sticking some really trippy/psychadelic music on in the background and trading spice.

Since you mentioned Terraria, there are two games on Steam Early access that might interest you -- Craft the World and Starbound.

Craft the World is like Terraria but instead of controlling a lone character, you have a small tribe of dwarves you indirectly control by assigning tasks to be done (think something like Dungeon Keeper in terms of your degree of control). It's almost certainly going to see some significant re-balancing before it's all said and done, since the tasks you get assigned (not required to complete them, but they give you some extra goodies and are meant to provide some direction to keep newbies on track) aren't assigned until way after you should already have done them and certain materials are *way* too rare for how much of them you need (fucking wool).

Starbound I haven't played yet, but a friend was saying some pretty encouraging things about it and described it as "Terraria in space." Apparently you have a spaceship and can fly it between proceudrally generated planets to do your thing, and in multiplayer each player brings all their discovered planets with them.
