LucasArts Set to Outsource Internal Projects

Following impending layoffs of about 100 employees, LucasArts may be considering outsourcing incomplete internal projects.

Shacknews said it was informed by a "reliable source" that upon completion of an Indiana Jones game, "all other partially-completed internal projects will be outsourced, a move that fits with earlier rumblings."

LucasArts told the gaming website that it is "committed to the internal studio," but did not comment on possible outsourcing.

The studio is poised to release its first internally-developed title, the much-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, on September 16 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

It has not given any official statements on the reasons behind the layoffs.

I read the blog of someone who got the boot at LucasArts in this round of layoffs... man, he was so happy working there and now pfft. I hate what this industry does to its own, sometimes.

So after having a go at making games themselves, Lucasart have decided it's too expensive and are going back to how they used to do it. Paying other people to do the hard part for them then slapping an LA sticker on it.

Here's hoping for the return of Factor 5...
