Luigi Returns in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U And 3DS

Seeings as it is "the year of Luigi," the green-hatted Mario brother was an obvious inclusion.

Nintendo has deemed 2013 as "the year of Luigi," and has spearheaded multiple projects that bring the more cowardly of the Mario brothers into the spotlight, such as Super Smash Bros. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124118-New-Super-Luigi-U-Gets-Standalone-Retail-Version] game, and you just couldn't call it "the year of Luigi" if he wasn't included in Nintendo's mascot fighter.

Luigi has been in every iteration of Super Smash Bros. since the original N64 title, so while his inclusion may initially be a no-brainer, you have to remember that director Masahiro Sakurai did state that wanted to remove characters that didn't bring anything unique to the table [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125115-Smash-Bros-Director-Is-Stressed-Out-Deciding-The-Roster]. As Luigi plays quite similarly to Mario, there was a legitimate concern that he might be cut.

Nintendo has released a slew of screenshots of Luigi doing his thing in both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. Luigi joins Wii Fit Trainer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125914-Captain-Olimar-Will-Return-In-The-New-Super-Smash-Bros].

My only worry is, now that Luigi is confirmed, what does this mean for the vastly superior Mario clone, Wario? Who else do you want to see return in the new game, and who would you not shed a tear for if they were cut?

Don't have a Wii-U so I doubt that I'll get it. That being said, I am a big Luigi fan and glad that this is happening, so in order to celebrate, this.

Great. Another excuse for a list.

- With Mega Man, we'll cut Snake and Sonic as guests. Hate to say it as a Snake fan, but them's the breaks.

- Rework or cut Meta Knight. Great character, but I don't see him sticking around.

- Cut Lucario. He was already MewTwo's replacement. Makes sense they'd replace him as well.

- Cut Wolf. No need for more than one Fox clone.

- Cut R.O.B. Nice gesture to call him back, but no need for him in the next title.

- Cut Lucas OR Ness. More likely Lucas since he's lesser known outside of Japan, but we can only have one or the other.

- Cut Ike AND Marth. Now with Awakening, we'll likely see Chrom in the roster and Lucine taking over Marth's fighting style.

- Rework Pokemon Trainer. Same concept, but we'll likely see Trainer using X and Y starters and evolutions.

- Cut Ganondorf. Seriously, they weren't even trying with him.

I don't see the Smash team cutting Wario, Steven. If they do, it's a shock to me.

Yeah, but Falco has greater presence on-screen than Wolf. You can see Falco's brash confidence in his animations. If it were him in a three-on-one fight, you can easily see him saying, "Take a seat, I got this." And he has the fighting skill to back him up.

Wolf is slow and predictable. He has a weaker presence. Every fight I can only see him saying, [small]"Hey... Can't let you do that..."[/small]

Actually, for any number of reasons, tbh, but he always has to wear green. If he wanted to wear red, it'd be a massive drama.

And still, no love for Toad. Idk how he would play but I've always liked Toad. SMB2 and Mario Kart 64 being his times to shine.

Shantae would have been a cool guest character, and comes with moves already there like the elephant drop and harpy etc.

I like Luigi more than Mario though, not just in Smash.

What? Wario was first included in Brawl. There was a wario-like colour scheme for Mario, but that's it.

Also, I'll hunt down and Flame Choke (Ganoncide woooo!) anyone who suggests removing the Great King of Evil from the rooster! I don't mind him getting more/completely new moves, but don't you DARE suggest removing Ganondorf! >.<

It would also be nice if they gave Samus a selection similar to Zelda, and removing the armour pieces when the game starts, they are just annoying.

I dunno if this means the end to Sonic's time as a fighter, given that exclusivity deal Nintendo and Sega have right now... Snake though, yeah he's a different story.

I think he only needs a little tweaking so he's a bit less broken, but otherwise a worthy addition to the roster.

A mate of mine is hanging out for a Mewtwo return, considering Mewtwo has a 'new form' that could be used.

Hmm, if Game & Watch stays, I reckon R.O.B. should stay too. So far they haven't dumped any of the 'left field' characters, so unless they need to free up a roster space I think he should stick around.

It's a shame, because I find Lucas a lot easier to play as than Ness... But with the recent release of Earthbound on Virtual Console, plus his ubiquity with the franchise, Ness is the obvious choice to stay if we can only have one... However, if they're looking to change it up, they could add Paula or Poo as other Earthbound characters...

- Cut Ganondorf. Seriously, they weren't even trying with him.

I think they should give Ganondorf a new move set... Perhaps take Ike's and apply it to him instead? Get him using his sword... Or, if they really want to switch it up, swap him out for Demise!

Yeah, Wario is definitely within the bounds of 'unique characters' that they plan to keep.

OT: Luigi being in SSB4 is no surprise as he's been in the series since it's dawn on the N64. Not having Luigi in this game would be like making a Legend of Zelda game without Link if you ask me.

Also, since when is Wario a clone of Mario? Their moveset is completely different, and if anything Dr. Mario from Melee was a clone of Mario just like how Pichu was a clone of Pikachu, only crappier. >.>

Luigi's moveset hasn't really changed that much since Melee, as in Brawl Luigi retains most of his moves that he had in Melee without them really being nerfed like how some of Captain Falcon's moves were or being changed like how Kirby's moves were.

It's more then likely that they'll add the Poltergust 5000 to Luigi's moveset I believe since Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon was more recent, and in Brawl they gave Mario F.L.U.D.D for one of his moves so it is entirely possible that they'll give Luigi something. To be quite honest I was rather upset that the Brawl moveset for Luigi didn't include the Poltergust 3000, but I forgave them because then they gave us Luigi's druggy final smash. XD

I'm increasingly concerned they cut Yoshi. They've announced ALL of the original 8 plus Luigi, except Yoshi. They better not have removed him, otherwise no sell.

They didn't remove him, they're probably announcing him soon... even if they don't, the original 12 (8+unlocks) pretty much have immunity from being cut at this point, having been in the past three Smash games in a row. Expect to see Ness but not Lucas, for example, even though Mother 3 is the newer game (then again, with EarthBound's VC release, they'll especially wanna push that with Ness).

On top of that, he's got one of the more unique fighting styles in the series. Since they're trying to avoid move clones this time around, he's fits what they're looking for better than almost anyone else.
