It seems like Anon is not as dead as people thought. They just hacked open and took over the site for panda security

LulzSec =/= Anonymous

They are a splinter faction of Anonymous that went a different direction.

Yeah but isn't anyone who claims to be a member of anonymous a member by default? if the group has no definition than surely anyone who claims to be a member, is one.

Yes, but these guys identified themselves as LuLzSec, that's the difference. Shit guys this concept is not hard to comprehend. It's certainly possible that LuLzSec members are still part of Anonymous, but that's something no one will ever know.

"...take down the other high-level members of...Anonymous."

How many times does it have to be said? There are no 'members' of Anonymous. It's an internet culture, not a buddy group.

Monsegur, described by FoxNews.com [http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/03/06/hacking-group-lulzsec-swept-up-by-law-enforcement/#ixzz1oLiLkGhI] as an "unemployed, 28-year-old father of two," apparently flipped on the group in order to avoid being separated from his children. "It was because of his kids. He didn't want to go away to prison and leave them," a law enforcement official said. "That's how we got him."
This is the only thing I don't like. Threatening to leave his children without a father or as orphans is a pretty terrible thing to do.

Also want to point out that his name is freaking awesome.
You mean like every other convicted criminal who gets sent to prison and has a family?

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Well, serves the punks right for DDOS-ing the Escapist and LoL last year (among others).

I'm sure retribution of Anonymous comes next...retribution for squelching a bunch of assholes who grief-pranked people. Noble cause, I'm sure.

Regardless of how many more arrests are made because of Monsegur's cooperation, the FBI believes this spells the end of LulzSec. "This is devastating to the organization," another official said. "We're chopping off the head of LulzSec."

Good luck with that.

Now the real war will begin.
True, but at the same time the FBI is quickly learning how to effectively track these people. (beyond the whole "jail time unless you rat" thing)

So, while new groups will always crop up, the tools to find them will get better and faster.

'Course, the tools and means behind the cyber attacks will also improve, but that's just part of the vicious cycle. Still, now these scum-bags know they're not untouchable.

[edit] Anyone know what's up with the sudden, new captcha and why it's already bugging out? XD

This is what happens when you go to war with the FBI. If they really, really, want you, they'll get you.

If they can't get you for murder, racketeering, or organized crime, they'll get you on tax evasion, like Al Capone. Breaking the law is just not worth it. The thrill is not worth the consequence.

I feel sorry that it had to end this way, but in the end, they aren't some kind of internet cyber gods. They're human, with human emotions. And human flaws.

I'd call this good news. It's kinda gross that Lulzsec's bossman went on to rat his own people out, but... it kinda was to be expected. There is no honor among criminals, after all.

And I say criminals because, from what I know, Lulzsec had their hand in stealing financial information from people.

Anyone else notice this "cut off the heads thing" is a bunch of nonsense?

Really Anonymous, Megaupload has been taken down and they caught one of the best hackers out there and got him to join their side, not only that but they completely undermined their ability to trust even their fellow users by showing they'll rat them out in a heartbeat.

How are a group of people who can't completely organise together, due to having to hide their information not only from the government but also each other, going to organise anything? They're not going to do anything, maybe DDoS a few website and attack groups that don't agree with them, but all in all the government has already won this "war".

Cut one head off and 2 more replace it? Yeah, that's the lulziest delusion of this.
I saw a post "cut the head off a snake". The poster meant Hydra, of course. If you cut the head off a snake, the body writhes about for a bit, then dies.

Almost gave a shit about him and his family. But the sheer severity of his crimes whilst having two kids to look at. And to top it all off, unemployed as well?

Fuck him. He knew full well that he was gonna get caught.

I thought that there were laws against that sort of catch? Making a man choose between ratting on his friends or going to jail.

Whenever there's a news story about the FBI succeeding, I automatically think, "Fuck, the bad guys won again!"

Uh no. Actually this is the first thing he's done in ages that is legal. Oddly enough, unauthorised file access and hacking are illegal.
