So i don't really get it, were they being sarcastic in their comment on it retrospectively or did they gain something from this, besides a nice anecdote?
No, that was the kind of self-deprecating irony that comes from a guy with a combined sense of humor and humility.

They could have used the money from GH as their gamecube controller was the worst thing in the history of man.
I still have one of those. It's not even a good paperweight.

I avoid their products to this day.

OK, the man seems OK, but every MadCatz controller I've ever got has broken within a few days of me buying it. If Guitar Hero had peripherals made by them, it wouldn't have made any money anyway, because the guitars would have sucked donkey balls.

MadCatz? Isn't that the one that makes shitty unreliable peripherials for double the price?

Good job they did back out then, as the controllers would have sucked ass.

Their PS2 memory card still works alright then.

Pst. Hey guys, remember: Big successes come out of the complete blue. They are very rarely hyped. As for how Guitar Hero has ended up? Blame that on Activision's genius ideas of milking the franchise to death rather than take a bit more care with it.

Ouch, that had to hurt. And sad, usually I like Mad Catz stuff. The vast majority of my replacement controllers are Mad Catz.

Much more worse is that they let him the rigth to write the storys for Episode 1 to 3.
Or if it was already written, that there was no one correcting ewhat was broken on the emotionless written characters.

I haven't heard about Mad Catz in a long time... not since PS2 was first out. Given the outlook on the Guitar Hero franchise as it stands in this new year, the money they possibly could have made would have been short lived and possibly poorly invested in creating new devices to service the game that nobody wants to play anymore. Anybody still playing Guitar Hero is pretty pathetic anymore since that fad died quick. I'm fairly sure that DJ Hero was the final nail in that coffin after the surge of band-geek analogs that followed suit after the rise of GH. I agree that sucks they are out $300k, but those are the breaks when sometimes foresight is not 20/20.
I guess I'm pathetic then. Though I disagree. I like to think of myself as awesome. Yeah, DJ Hero is retarded, but Guitar Hero is still fun, especially Metallica. And no I don't think I'm some kind of guitar god whilst playing. It actually reminds me more of keyboard. My guitar playing friends have trouble with it while my girlfriend also plays keyboard, and is as good as me. So, back on topic, I feel sorry for the guy, but at the same time... HA!!! Idiots.

It probably stems from the fact that he has a metric shitload of cash in the first place and wants to put on a modest face for the public... It's a bit like deliberately coming third in a race for disabled children... You'll get the sympathy vote which is nice, but you're not actually disabled which is even better...

All I know about Mad Catz is that they made some of the worst game accessories I've ever had the misfortune of being associated with. PlayStation memory cards that lost data, third-party controllers that broke quickly (if they even worked at all), and other total crap. As far as I see it, they've permanently destroyed their brand.
