Mad Max Is Australian Again
The E3 set in Australia [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124862-Mad-Max-Goes-Open-World-in-2014]. The studio wanted to treat it like an original IP, he explained, which meant that "the setting - where it is in the world - has really nothing to do with the Mad Max videogame."
This, as you might imagine, did not go over well with fans. Mad Max is Australian, as Australian as Yahoo Serious, vegemite sandwiches and videogame censorship, and the thought of taking Max out of the Outback was just... well, whatever the Australian word for "blasphemy" is.
But today, the world is a little bit of a better place thanks to a tweet from Sundberg, who's clearly been paying attention. "Attn. fans who want Max to have an Aussie accent in #MadMaxGame : It shall be so," he wrote. "We admire your loyalty. You have been heard."
It's not exactly the same as promising a full-on return to the Wasteland, but if Max sounds Australian, then I think that's close enough to being Australian - and that's good enough for me. Props to Sundberg and the Avalanche team for getting this one right.
