A Czech website has found there were 180 missions originally ment for Mafia 2, except the vast majority were cut for the release version, and will most likely be re-sold as DLC. This included a portion of sicily where you would free-roam during your war years. (See Spoiler). This is why The first few chapters are so short and why some chapters consist of only one mission.

Heres translation.
We got complete list of missions from Mafia II for you. Besides known missions you can also see some missions that are missing in final version of the game. Theres much more missions and our theory that it could be missions from second world war was confirmed. Dont be surprised that some of them are there twice, those are longer missions that must have been split into saves.

Thanks for translation

This trend of selling gamers less and less for full price and re-selling it back to us is only getting worse. THey are using the hype and loyalty to the fanchise to take advantage of paying customers to the fullest.

They're basicly selling us an empty sandbox and charging to fill it per bucket of sand.

How wonderful of 2K to sell us half of a game for 60$ and sell us the rest separately.

I guess it'll make their "Oh, well Mafia 2 was never supposed to be a free-roam game. We intended it to be a story driven experience from the start." excuse invalid.

Your arguement is invalid. They never promised it was 100% free roam and it has a very passable story.

Now someone will come in and scream at you "IT'S NOT A SANDBOX!!!".

To be honest I don't get it. Why bother giving a "big" city, do absolutely nothing with it, then when people come wondering all the fans come out of the woodwork and say "IT'S NOT A SANDBOX!". Well if it isn't, why the fuck bother with giving it a sandbox environment? Atmosphere? Setting? Neat I guess, but it doesn't change the fact that it adds nothing to the game besides scenery.
I actually believe that the dev team put in a sandbox world just to make you drive home after every single chapter. Thrill with the excitement of DRIVING HOME! There is no bigger mafioso experience then driving home!

Seriously, there's at least an hour worth of gameplay in which resolves around you driving home, so you can go to sleep. Hmpf...

Mafia 2 is the biggest disappointment this year for me in gaming. Not even the story, which should be the main hook, is that good. Really poor script, filled with every single gangster cliche(Even the one "Your sister's husband beats her, go James Caan on his ass!") and it doesn't even get the mobster aspect right!

MEH! I will hope that at least the modding scene will salvage the PC version in years to come. Cause right now is a very mediocre game.

And this is why games need to be changed in a fundamental way. DLC has made it so that normal updates cost money, updates that would usually be released for free. The fact that this game has so much more additional content already included indicates that either:

1: It was too buggy/mediocre to include in the game.

2: They intend to sell it later, meaning that they are simply going to charge you money to unlock already existing parts of your game.

Then explain why PS3 version has a free-roam mode after the story is "to be continued"

they did intend it to be a sandbox game once all the DLC comes out.

Driving home is a great time to steal some cars and crush them (tho why the fuck you crush them instead of selling them to get the cash is beyond me).

Anyway, they screwed up on no wheel support... the driving is really good but damn it sucks with a keyboard. I use my PS3 controller for driving which is way better but still no force feedback wheel and pedals.

As for cutting missions... if we see them in DLC... ugh. Much hate.

If they cut them for quality, or plot cohesion reasons, I don't mind, it's their game. If they release them as DLC, or, as paid DLC*, then I'll be pissed.

*If the missions were removed for lack of polish, and then added back in for free, that's better, but still fucks over the people who don't hook their system up to the internet.
