Also it seems to need to dial home once a day.
I expect that it will need to dial home every time you start playing a game, watch a movie or do anything else.
So everything you post is based on your expectations and guessing. Hm. Okay.
Nope, you'll have to wait for the installation though, just like with software updates on Windows.
Not necessarily. Win Update in Windows 8 is an unnoticed process. So are game updates in Steam. Don't have to restart when an update comes out, it'll just do it when I'm not busy. For multis like Dota 2, the game will have you restart briefly, so you're updated like the other players.
More than any other console the XBone seems to actually want to be a PC, with alt-tabbing, all the social media integration, trending and such. Only with far worse controls. Using a smartphone that hardly anyone has, a motion sensor that you can't turn off and will constantly monitor you even if you turned the XBone off, just in case you might want to give it a command. Using Smartglass that hardly anyone wants. Also, without the ability to upgrade the hardware, something that a PC will allow to do.
Nobody is telling you to buy it, and surely unplugging the device will render all its peripherals unusable.
You're seriously saying that Microsoft don't make incredible profits?
Are you really claiming that they cannot allow a simple thing (that's completely free on a PC) because they NEED that income?
Because the Xbox isn't all that profitable and has cut losses the first few years of selling. There's plenty of articles on the matter. And because Microsoft as a whole makes a profit, they should just allow one of their products to leech off other products indefinitely? Yeah that's totally how it works. The 360 has only started turning profit very recently.
And 'completely free on a PC' is a skewed perspective and further proves the point you have no clue of what you're talking about. Xbox Live is a service provided by Microsoft on Microsoft servers. Any PC game you buy will have it's own servers, if any at all, which are funded by you and many others purchasing the game and further in-game items/DLC etc. They are two different business models, and the margin on Xbox sales isn't big enough (note: losing money) to also fund a plethora of servers.
Also let's compare the power required to run an NES with that of a 360? Yeah, thought so.
Also, let's not forget that you cannot turn the XBone off. It will only ever be in sleep mode, unless you actually unplug it.
It will be in sleep mode and the Kinect will always be on since it is constantly waiting for you to give it commands. It will constantly drain power.
So no, this thing is in no way energy efficient.
And you have any grounds for this? My Nexus tablet for example is always on, but when it's 'sleeping' (ie Im not using it) it barely even loses 1% over a whole night's sleep, but when I wake up my notifications are right there waiting for me. There have been a lot of advances in the field of power consumption, you would do well to read up on them. The argument of 'it uses more than a NES' is retarded. Also, how many devices in the average home aren't on standby?
Leaving your phone on standby whilst not using it = using power, meaning you'll charge it more often. TV turned off, but not switched off? Constantly ready for a remote control signal, it's the exact same thing. We can go on, alarm clocks etc.
