Make Non Washable Items Not Smell

Ok, so recently I was able to get some stuff of mine back, but they smell awful. Thing is, several of the items I can't wash for one reason or another. So how can I go about making them not smell (other than spraying them with Febreze, which I've found to not work so well in the past)?

The two main objects in question are a book, and a Mewtwo plush, however while I know washing Mewtwo is probably the easiest course of action, I'm worried that his eyes will come off while in the washer.

Hand-wash the toy in warm, soapy water.

As for the book, well, I've never come across a book that smelled but I presume that after a while, the smell will probably go away.

*EDIT* Oh right, before you try that technique I would fan the pages, like how people play with stacks of money in movies. Just to get some distance between the pages before you treat it.

This, but add some baking soda to that water. Since I've started washing my clothes with nothing but baking soda (because of allergies)I've found that it cleans & removes odors better than any detergent I've ever used.

If you can't wash them then you do this:

Put your item in a plastic bag and shove it into a freezer for about half a day. The freezing temperature kills off odour bacteria.

I work in a clothing store and we always recommend this method.

Would that work for leather? Like jackets and gloves?
