Many of the best Si-Fi movies have nudity?

It seems to be a law that any Dutch films needs to have some pointless full frontal nudity, and since both Total Recall and Starship Troopers were directed by Paul Verhoeven that's probably where that came from.

It's not a film, but the pilot episode of Stargate SG1 has full frontal nudity. The DVD was rated 18 in the UK which confused me until I watched it.

<youtube=X56oTgum_VQ> My God you're right!

Looking at my favourite sci-fi movies very few have nudity. Though one of my all time favourites (Watchmen) has a fair bit of it. Maybe that's why I like it so much ;)

Damn! How could I forget that? Yeah that was out of nowhere. Though it was, apparently, because Showtime (the network who funded it) wanted some nudity, and didn't really get the show at all. It was removed for the director's cut though.

It's like if in the pilot episode of a new series of Star Trek they in had a scene where the Science officer and Chief Engineer striped down to their underwear and started rubbing lotion on each other. That'd just be stupid...

The reason why these are the best movies is because it seems plausible. It makes it seem real. That's why I liked Watchmen so much. Beause of the nudity, it gave me the impression that, "yep, this is a mature movie with mature subjects. It's going to an interesting ride."

Wait, did 12 Monkeys contain nudity?
Did it contain 12 monkeys?
Actual humour on the escapist? Now that is something you rarely see around here anymore :D

Contact was a great sci fi movie and I believe it didn't contain nudity. Also has anyone else noticed that Jodie foster looks a lot like Australian PM Julia Gillard?

Whaaat? I've watched a lot of SG1 and I don't think it had any nudity. Maybe they cut it out for prime time TV?

OT: None of those are particularly good sci fi movies. However, I do like them boobs.

It's mainly because the film industry thinks that the nerds who watch the stuff never get any cup-love.

maybe because scifi usually won't fit in the whole "wholesome family friendly" category anyway so they might as well slap some nudity in there is that increases sales.

Or, a more likely explanation is to say "This is Mature Stuff!" because there's a tendency to dismiss Fantasy and Sci-fi as "Kiddie Fare" unless it contains crass "mature" content to say "Hey, this is for Adults, not kids".

For example - Watchman using nudity to keep people from mistaking it for a "Kiddie Superhero movie".

Stupid Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Animation age ghettos.

Not really sure where you're getting this idea. There are more (and heck, better) sci-fi movies that don't contain nudity. It's definitely not the first (non-porn) genre I'd look to if I were looking for nude scenes ("Mature" comedies or even serious dramas would be better candidates).

Has anyone else noticed this?

EG:
-SuperNova
-Total Recall
-Lifeforce
-Starship Troopers

I wonder if this is because people belive that boobs will make people watch there movies?

Or if they are trying to have a semi accurate view of the culture (From the history/story of the movie)

Thoughts?
Funny I was expecting movies that have oversexulation but no full on Nudity
Battle star Glactica

I don't remember Aliens having nudity...
What are you talking about? The whole movie is about phallic looking aliens murdering people via penetration. It doesn't get more full-frontal than that.

OT: Can't say I've noticed a trend, no, at least not in the sci-fi movies that I consider to be the best.

2001: A Space Odyysey
The Thing (Carpenter, not the remake)
Star Wars
Star Trek (some of em anyway)
Moon
Sunshine
Bladerunner (somewhat debateable I guess)
Predator
Metropolis
Inception
Minority Report
I Robot
District 9

That is a small number of movies I've thought up off the top of my head.

There are plnety of great Sci-fi without any nudity. I have no idea what you guys are talking about.
