March Mayhem 2012 Is Over, Valve Wins!

Could I ask a March Madness question? This is only the second year I've participated, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something. I filled out my whole bracket before the whole thing got underway and then waited for the announcements of who won (presumably based on what all of us put on our bracket cards). But this article mentions the companies battling it out and votes coming fast and furious. Is there a secondary voting process? You can't change your bracket card...so what did I miss?

Yeah voting is done after you fill your brackets, over the course of the entire event, with each round lasting a few weeks.
I usually get to the voting page using the large site-consuming background ad.
So yeah, the initial brackets aren't actually votes, sorry bud ^^;

Anyway, it's interesting to see the EXACT same arguments about why Valve is now scum of the earth that was hurled at Mojang for winning last year...

Edit: didn't quote you, hope that still goes to your inbox.

Can't say I'm surprised.

Apparently all you need to actually need to do to win these things is to treat your customers with respect.

It doesn't matter if you haven't released a game in forever ;D
Valve vs EAoware. Valve wins! An allegory for steam v origin!

Congrats to Valve, well deserved! I'd love it if the more obscure companies placed higher, but overall the MM turned out pretty well. Not much work for us mods either, so a big kudos to the community for putting your best face forward for the new users!

although not surprised i'm not happy with the results. i preferred that CD Projekt, but that is my opinion. i think i'm more annoyed with the fact that Valve won, when there last game was Portal 2. a good game, but nothing really special imo.
It's not just the games they introduced this year, it is the game they kept constantly updated this year with free DLC and allowing everyone with a computer, an internet connection and a few brain cells to play one of those games at no cost as well as releasing a new trailer for the game and confirming the release of another one. And let's face it; in the CoD era keeping an online multiplayer game from 2007 alive and well with a constantly growing playerbase is no mean feat!
Diablo 2 and Starcraft 1 have been supported by Blizzard since Bnet 1.0 launched way back in the day. Doesn't seem to get them any brownie points.

At this point I feel I should express some confusion.

Firstly, I never win things, seriously, never.

Secondly, this is the first I've heard about winning, and am majorly confused by this turn of events, I haven't had any messages or emails through about this or any form of contact about it.

So does this mean I get a badge for picking the right winner this year? :D

Sorry but I've just wanted to win a MM badge for picking the right winner just once, I'm petty I know but what can ya do?

So for all the Bioware hated spewed on the forums, they still made it to the final round?

Huh. Either it truly is a vocal minority bashing on them all the time, or the hate spewed is a twisted form of love. Either way, Zeel must be greatly upset, wherever he is...

"No no no no no no no, not listening! They do not see what lies ahead, when Day 1 DLC kills us dead!!"
Whatever happened to Zeel anyway? i haven't seen him spewing his particular brand of vitriol in a while. Did his antics finally get him banned?
OT: I totally voted for Bioware through the whole contest, the ending to ME3 may have been bad, but 95% of the game was amazing. I just hope the DLC adds a little more closure. Also, not a huge PC gamer, so I haven't had much experience with Valve other than Portal.
Zeel finally got banned. Not for trolling here though. Someone(allegedly) set up a fake account-at giantbomb I think- and claimed to be him, attempting to get other people to troll as well as him. Then he was banned. What's funny is that the only reason he was pissed was because he didn't get to go out flaming.
I think its pretty obvious the post on Giantbomb wasnt by him.... Not enough capslock.
Y'all will probably call me crazy for saying this, but I kinda miss Zeel.

He was crazy, sure, but he had energy and passion... a real zeal for life. We dueled like madmen, he and I, but he wasn't all bad. He stuck to his guns and fought like a badger. He certainly needed to tone down the swearing and threatening bodily harm, but he brought interesting ideas to the table.

I saw the post on GiantBomb and it sounded nothing like Zeel. I'd have to say in this matter, I'm with him. He was definitely framed, and it's very unfortunate if that fake post is, in fact, what got him banned.

That essentially means anyone could create a username of "The.Beard" on some other forums, claim their name is The.Bard, and say they troll the escapist to get me banned. There should be some level of proof needed for that kind of thing to hold water, be it ip address or something.

Anyway, he has a final goodbye/salut/farewell post here, along with proof of his innocence:

If you're still reading Zeel, I salute you.

oh, this is why I have premium, is it? I filled it in at half 2 in the morning just to get the badge, never expected to win.

...I think I was slightly drunk too

There's always next year Bioware...

...where you will probably be runner-up yet again :(

Bioware deserves to win one for once! Too much Bioware hate recently.
