Mass Effect 2 - do's and don'ts

As you may or may not know Mass Effect 2 is currently in development and is speculatively going to be released in Q1 of next year. So while we're waiting I was wondering what people liked about the first game and hope to see carried over into the sequel as well as any other things that you think would be a great addition too. However not everything is perfect so feel free to post what you think should be removed as well.

I personally believe that Bioware needs to do a little fixing of the slightly confusing menu system as well as adding a larger degree of armor customization (possibly color?). The difficulty was all too easy as well. Even on insanity the AI was no smarter, it simply took longer for them to die.

But those are minor grievances, and I hope Bioware can deliver as well as they did in the first.

Make it an RPG instead of a Third Person Shooter with RPG elements.

And make your squad more vital to your survival if they keep it as a third person shooter.

DO:
Keep Wrex and the other cast
Make my decisions have effect (love interest, did the council live or die etc)
Keep Shepard alive and kickin'
Keep the great music and sci fi atmosphere
Make another cool villain
Also finally keep the romance thing and dare to be even slightly more sexually explicit... why? As a big "fuck you" to FOX news. Kinda literally when you think about it.

DON'T:
Make it multiplatform
Kill Shepard or any other cast member's off.

Don't include awkard, uncomfortable inter-species romance, or any romance of any kind.
Don't fit out all explorable planets with identikit buildings. Do make the sidequests unique and interesting in their own right.
Do overhaul the entire inventory system and make items stack.

WTF is the problem with letting more people play the game? Why make it exclusive?
Not so much the desire to covet favorite franchises, it's just that if Bioware make ME2 so that it uses save files from ME1 to continue where you left off like an expansion module... and there was no ME1 on PS3 then on PS3 the sequel would have to be a completely fresh story and that would most likely also apply to the Xbox Version as well. Because there can't be two completely different versions of the same game plotwise. In order to make both versions fair to either party they would have to remove things from the Xbox version that would have been obtained with the save files in the original. So therefore having all your favourite cast and events from the first return would have to be swept aside and honestly... everything would just become a mess. It would be kind of like an insult to all the hardcore fans who wanted to see their favourite cast return.
That's just my view anyway, it's not because I hord my favourite Xbox games like a dragon hord's his gold. I just think if it became Multi platform the balance would get screwed.

Balence is an issue best left to multiplayer games. And you can give the 360 version exclusive content without ruining the game.

IIRC, FF13 is getting PS3 exclusive content.

No offense intended my good sir (honestly no offense intended) but Final Fantasy thirteen getting exclusive PS3 content has no interest to me because I don't like Final Fantasy. Another reason to my argument I forgot to mention was that with two different versions of the same game will lead to inevitable fanboy wars and the last thing fanboy's need is another reason to go to war. God we lost enough poor souls in the winter of 2007 lest we forget.

Clearly you've never played the game on insanity.

True, but exclusive games are the bullets that fanboys shoot at one another in attempts to kill.

Oh, well...we can both agree than fanboys suck.

Seconded.

Anyway, Mass Effect's gameplay formula was great, I think that was why it was so popular (come on, did you think that 1 second of human and 3 seconds of alien ass would draw legions of fans to the game?). Besides, BioWare's made many classic RPG's, it was great to get some variety. Please DO keep the formula.

DO have a good integration of previous save files into the game, but don't punish people who don't have a ME1 save file.

DON'T keep the elevator sequences. At least shorten them up!

DO expand the galactic exploration idea and allow us to visit a greater variety of planets.

I'm really looking forward to ME2!

Edit: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have more than 1 bunker style!

I want a better VO for the male character. The female's VO is far superior, as Jennifer Hale did a fantastic job.

I play as a girl in all games. >_> WHAT?!

i don't really think they have to change anything, except put some more powerful classes and foes, races to choose from[i like the krogans a lot] and possibly make the side quests less monotonous.. and i'd also like the storyline to be continued smoothly.. but that's it, mass effect was a pretty good game in my opinion

Sorry, but the preview trailer thing shows a clip about Shepard getting killed.

Possibly try something a bit like Neverwinter Nights 2 and have a sort of customisible ship/base that is affected by your choices.

Nah, that was a teaser to boost interest - they announced ages ago, during the original Mass Effect production I beleive, that it was "Shepard's trilogy", note the quotation. He'll be alive.

Give it a whirl if you have the time, tis a whole other beastie.

1. Find some way to shorten the elevator bits.
2. More varity in planets.
3. Make more use of sceens like the vision on Eletania.
4. A fully explorable citidel would be great, though it'll never happen.
