What made Mass Effect 2 so good was importing your decisions from Mass Effect 1.

And Mass Effect 1 isn't coming to the PS3.

Sorry, Mr. Westbrook, but I have to disagree with you there. While PS3 owners WILL finally get a chance to taste the glory that is ME, they won't get the full slice of the pie without being able to import an ME1 save.
I played through ME2 on PC just fine without having a save on the first one.

This is good for PS3 only players though, I can convince my friend to get it and see that it's not just full of cutscenes (they're conversations you moron, it's an RPG!)

My mind is flip flopping between a state of between suprise and confusion. There were loads of rumours about this before Mass Effect 2 was released but I never really imagined them bothering with a PS3 version this long after release and without ME1 available as well.

I hope they don't bring that shit to.
Who are you trying to convince? If you had actually taken XBLA into account you would see how much of a fanboy you're being. Unless of course, stuff like 'Splosion Man and Limbo became generic shooters while I wasn't looking.

Oh yes, and anyone who says they don't want a game available on their console of choice because they think it would some how weaken the console obviously bid farewell to rational argument a long time ago.

Hopefully they'll package the game with all the expansions. I mean, the game will be almost a year old by then, right?

Then you missed out on a lot of the emotional aspects of the game. I mean, you REALLY get attached to your partymates in ME1, and then when they just blow you off...

It hurts, man.

Now I have nothing over my PS3 obsessed best friend.
Well, I still have Left 4 Dead 2 on my PC. :p
You do; the fact that plenty of multiplatform games are véry poorly optimised on the PS3.

I just played the PC and PS3 version of the Mafia 2 demo, and the PC version is FAR superior to the PS3 one. I'll be cancelling my order for the Mafia 2 PS3 version and swapping it for the PC one first thing in the morning. Though I'm glad it's not as awful as with Red Dead Redemption.

I hope for all the Mass Effect fans that'll be getting ME2 for the PS3 that it won't be as screwed up as other multiplatform games.

I knew it was just a matter of time. :) I had almost given up hope. I'm more surprised that Mass Effect 1 didn't/hasn't seen release. In fact... to get what MF2 is going on about I'll have to play MF1... which means buying it on another system. Hard to see Sony condoning that. :)

The Live exclusives don't really count, because there's enough PSN exclusives to counter them - Wipeout HD, Trine, Flower... hell, PSN even got Castle Crashers. I hate being a doomsayer but Xbox is going down in flames.

that's disgusting. This game should continue to be an XBox exclusive. EA kind of pisses me off that they can't let anything be an exclusive. The game started on XBox and should end on Xbox, and PS3 owners certainly shouldn't be getting any special exclusive content, that's just a punch in the balls. I used to not hate EA so much but now....

Well that's good for everyone with a PS3 but shouldn't they bring ME1 over first, without the first game the second means nothing.

I am happy Mass Effect 2 is coming to the PS3. This way Bioware will be able to get other people hooked on how great Mass Effect 2 is. I hope Mass Effect 1 comes to the PS3 as well.

Wow, a lot of PS3 flaming here.
Surprised?
No, Disappointed more than anything.
Personally, I already played the first one on the pc and didn't really feel compelled to play the second one. I wasn't very impressed with Dragon Age either so I guess they're just not my bag.
Yeah, the Emphasis on Shooter based combat is making me less enthusiastic for this, but I would like a port of Mass Effect 1 (a la Ninja Gaiden Sigma)
True. While it wouldn't get me any more excited (already played it) it would make more sense.

I think what turns me off about the Bioware games is that they're more a platform for telling you the story they have for you. I prefer the kinds of games where the story is more dependent on what you the player do in the game. Games where you make your own story like Fallout 3 or San Andreas(not an rpg, I know but it also illustrates this option-full gameplay that can dictate the story). There's nothing wrong with Bioware's approach. I can see the appeal for a more structured narrative that drives the story more and it can more sensibly lead to more climactic moments but I don't like it as much myself.
My favorites tend to be wide open world dealies that don't guide the player too much.

I want to echo the confusion over there not being a ME1 port as well. It's certainly more than possible to enjoy ME2 without importing your save from the first game, but you're missing out on a huge part of what makes this series such a pleasure. And while I know ME1's combat hasn't aged well and nobody likes the Mako bits, it's still got -- and I will stand by this until the end of time -- THE best story of any game I've ever played. I hope they're planning more for PS3 owners than simply throwing an abbreviated prequel at the start of ME2. You really can't do justice to ME1's plot without the slow burn its campaign throws at you.

Anyway, enjoy it, PS3 owners. It's easily my favorite game of 2010 so far and one of the best titles of the generation, easily. And this news is a pretty big blow to Microsoft, too. After Portal 2 and now this, Xbox 360 is quickly running out of noteworthy exclusives. It'll still be my console of choice for most games since I love the 360 controller, but years ago I scoffed at anyone who chose PS3 over 360, and soon it may be the other way around!

For every Limbo and Splosion man theres a Joe Danger and Wipeout. The titles o Xbox that are keeping my 360 from getting sold are declining. Fable2 was a huge steaming bag of shit compared to Fable TLC (IMO) and then for the major titles there is now only Gears, Halo, L4D and Forza. For every great 360 exclusive there are 2 great ps3 exclusives.

* Fable 3 looks to be the same shit as Fable 2. If they made the thrid more like TLC then maybe I would like it better. With Mass Effect cming to PS3 the 360is quickly losing relevance in my eyes. So I'm being both a fanboy annnnd a realist.

The more people can play this amazing game the better. They should port Mass Effect 1 as well because of the save game system. I think everyone deserves that experience.

You guys might want to look into the implications (i.e. our decisions in ME1 mean nothing in ME3 because with simultaneous dev'ing on all consoles means that they aren't going to put extra effort into making the 360 and PC versions get extra content.

This announcement is getting hammered on the Bioware forums.

I'm sure they'll make things work for those who played the first 2 games. It's only PS3 gamers who will suffer that. And that is why they should get ME1 first.

And don't worry about extra content. If nothing else, extra content is what Bioware is known about

Since when did equal and opposite numbers of exlcusives mean that one side is going to lose? So long as there are exclusives on both sides neither of them is going to disappear.

Also, 'going down in flames'? Really? The Dreamcast went down in flames. The original Xbox was unsucessful. A console does not get 4-5 years into it's lifecycle and then crash and burn because of one swapped exclusive.

EDIT:

See what I said above. A console does not survive for 4 or 5 years and then spontaneously combust because of one swapped exclusive. For a start if anyone is willing to buy a new console just to play Mass Effect then they would either have bought one by now so that they could play 1 and 2 or, if they bought it later, they would buy a 360 so they can play the full trilogy.
