The lack of Starcraft 2 in the nominations list suggests to me that it's fallen off this year's awards and is going to appear next year. It was released 3 days before the cut-off point for this year, after all.
Can we put this post at the top of the page, so that people can read this and understand? Before the topic gets flooded with "NO SC2?! THIS LIST SUCKS!"

Bah. There's one game that got an award it didn't deserve. ME 2 deserved RPG of the year, maybe...but certainly not Game of the year.

Confirmation: Starcraft 2 missed the boat for this year. By quite a bit, too.
Every game that was released between 23 May 2009 and 30 April 2010, from the most humble iPhone title to triple-A blockbusters, will feature in the longlist.
Since you have to get on the longlist before you get on the nomination list, it explains why Starcraft 2 was a no-show.

I recommend amending the article accordingly to prevent any raging about SC2's no-show, when it's going to turn up next year.

Also, nice to note that the Zynga Zurg doesn't have quite the teeth it's used to: Farmville "only" placed third on the Online Game catagory.

Zelda...is an RPG?

My mind is blown.

And I'd give "Nier" soundtrack of the year, over FF13.
You and I both know Zelda was never considered an RPG. Why they do now is baffling.
But I'm gonna disagree with you on Nier. While pretty, they were also pretty repetitive what with them being looped at 10 second intervals (or at least it felt that way to me). The soundtrack started to grate my nerves fairly quickly.
You have 90% of the trophies. Of course the soundtrack would grate on you at that point. :)

I listened to it outside of the game. Because once I tried fishing in the game...I just stopped. Just picked it up again, today, though. For the PS3 this time, since I got it for cheap.

It certainly wins awkward translation - the Japanese text that is supposed to correspond to the title "Nier Gestalt" is phonetically pronounced "Nee-a" "Geshiyutaruto" That's some fine garble there.

Surprised to see Jagex up there, are they working on something else big apart from Runescape?

I think those were good choices except for PvZ winning Strategy Game of the Year. I love PvZ a whole huggy bunch but I don't think it should have won that.

I would have given game of the year to FF13 or AC2. And fighting game should have been BlazBlue! :D I dunno why someone would disagree with me on that...

Ugh..

Plants vs. Zombies didn't deserve anything at all, let alone beating SC2 for Strategy. (I don't know which is worse- SC2 not being nominated, or SC2 being nominated then losing to PvZ)

Black Ops should've been beaten by Portal 2, (which wasn't even nominated- either it's not planned for release there or these people are sad, ignorant, or stupid) Galaxy, Zelda, or pretty much anything else on that list.

Jagex....do they even do anything other than Runescape? (The game is boring, takes 0 skill or strategy, and the people that play it are mostly illiterate assholes that rip on low level players even though they deserve more respect than the level cappers.)

Overall, it's easy to tell how the steriotypical uncultured masses run the show. The nominees are dissapointing and lacking, and the large majority of the people that voted are most likely flash gamers that have never played more than 1 nominee, if that, from each category. ME2 and AC2 are the least dissapointing of the lot.

There's a severe lack of Minecraft here, in the "one to watch" category.
And wasn't World of Goo back from '08? April '09 on Wii?

It was voted for by the public, and considering how often they normally fuck up I think this went pretty well. and SC2 wasn't eligible for this year

FF XIII best soundtrack? really? I can't remember a single tune from the entire game
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. It wouldn't even be that bad if the other's weren't so good. I think Metro should have won, just based on the scene where a refugee plays the acoustic guitar. Just so much emotion there. I can't really describe it in any more detail, play the game. I think that scene is the best scene in a videogame this year. Yes, even better than the Jacob romance scene in Mass Effect 2 (but the priiize does get pretty close).

Not surprising, not a terrible list. I would argue it's pretty well done. Sort of disappointed SC2 since it can't qualify for this year isn't on the "Ones to watch" list.

EDIT: Also, RPG of the year should be Demon's Souls.
But I don't even see a nomination. Sigh...
I honestly wouldn't be able to choose between ME2 and Demon's souls. While neither is a perfect game, they're both amazing RPGs that to work with opposite elements of the RPG genre.

ME worked with a lot more character and story while DS worked on gameplay elements, such as boss fights, the battle system, and loot, and building up from a rough start to a true hero. Both of them had amazing design work with both backgrounds, creatures, and items though, and both of them were definitely games that were worth full price, a rare feat these days.
