Yes, absolutely the best. The original Dark Forces was the best of its line, because the others tried to make the player a Jedi, and it killed a good shooter franchise. And nobody ever did Starfighter combat in the Star Wars franchise better than the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, the Rogue games were very pale rail-shooter imitations.CaitSeith said:Dogfighting in SPAAAAAAAAAACE!
Right from the DOOM-era of FPS!
I love Shadows of The Empire and have a lot of fond memories of the game, but yeah it has aged like milk. Such is the fate of many N64 games and early 3D games in general.Squilookle said:Don't believe the people who tell you Shadows of the Empire is good. It's really not...
I actually think some of the vehicle sections hold up alright considering how old it is, but yeah, the general run-and-gun shooting is pretty rough... I don't think I even managed to beat it when I was a kid.Tank207 said:I love Shadows of The Empire and have a lot of fond memories of the game, but yeah it has aged like milk. I always saw their mission briefings as propagandistic (it was an interesting contrast with the ones in X-Wing). And then getting invited to the Emperor's Secret Order and ranking up in it was a great part of the game (and that sweet tattoo was a hit at parties).jademunky said:Tie Fighter
Just an awesome game and probably the only SW game that successfully made the Empire look sympathetic. Like you really were this well-intentioned military force that just wanted to bring a semblance of the rule-of-law to the galaxy and why can't those rebels/secessionists/pirates just understand that?
Great moments too like when your briefing specifically warns you against issuing any orders to Darth Vader.
...Spoken like someone who never played Force Commander. More to the point, spoken like someone who never played Rebellion. Empire at War was little more than a Command and Conquer reskin (though I will admit, being on the other side of a Dark Trooper attack is a LOT more fun). Rebellion was where it was at.Palindromemordnilap said:Empire at War. Because overrunning your enemy with a legion of AT-ATs is never not fun
Well, insofar as Wing Commander 3 featured Mark Hamill flying a starfighter down a long trench to fire a powerful bomb at an inordinately large enemy installation, I suppose it can count as a Star Wars game. I'm not seeing the Master of Orion connection, though.Blood Brain Barrier said:The best is probably Wing Commander, followed by Master of Orion. Can't think of too many others I like.
We're talking about star wars games, lower case. Not Star Wars games. If Master of Orion is not an example of a game involving warring stars, I don't know what is.Recusant said:...Spoken like someone who never played Force Commander.
