Mechwarrior 3 question

So I ordered Mechwarrior 3 online. Looking forward to playing a classic. But my friend says that you need a joystick for the best experience.

Is this true and if so, what would be the best stick?

I played it OK back in the day with a Mouse and Keyboard.
Probably not the 'best' way, but it was more then functional.

If I remember correctly, the tutorial is pretty thorough, so I'd go through that with the mouse and keyboard before investing in a piece of hardware. I'm willing to bet you'll be fine.

Since you actually point the guns with a movable target reticule I'd say a mouse is not only sufficient, it is indispensable.

Mechwarrior 3's controls favor the Joystick greatly. It's not like Mechwarrior 4 where the mouse started becoming the norm in the Mech series.

I actually enjoyed it more with mouse and keyboard than with my joystick (a Sidewinder, so it had plenty of buttons and axises and whatnot).
I'd say the question is what you're used to.

Anyway, GREAT CHOICE for a game. I loved it.
The intro alone is just... awesome!
