Well, since the NDA was lifted, time to toss in my two cents.
The game is fun,but it's a tactical sort of fun. You gotta know when to press the attack, and when to back off. But that's standard fare in most action games, isn't it? You muts also be VERY paranoid about missile boats, which are mechs armed to the teeth with LRM (Long-Range Missile) launchers. These missiles eat armour alive and are effective to about twelve-hundred meters. Keeping buildings, mountains, cliffs,or even foothills between you an an unsavoury missile boat can make all the difference.
Lone wolves (personal experience, here!) tend to die. A lot. Without contributing to their team. It's alright to run ahead and scout, but once you determine a general movement pattern (which doesn't take much longer than first contact),fall back and rejoin the team. The lone wolf dies alone.
And the mechs feel PERFECT. Yeah, the Atlas may be a slow, ponderous beast...But when it gets its gun on target, that target tends to go away.
The game has its fair share of bugs, but it's in beta,so it's to be expected. If you like stomping around blowing shit up,this game's for you. Also,I lol'd at the Founders Catapult vid. "This Cat ain't even Mad..."
