Medivh and Chromie to Join Heroes of The Storm

The next heroes to join the Heroes of The Storm nexus have been revealed.

Big news for Heroes of The Storm fans today - Blizzard has revealed not just the next hero, but the next two heroes to join the nexus, alongside their respective release dates.

First up will be Chrome - a long-range artillery mage with the ability to bend time to her will - who will launch during the week of May 17. Her abilities are as follows:

Trait (D) Time Walker
Chromie learns her talents 1 level early
(Q) Dragon's Breath
After 1 second, Chromie fires a long range bolt, which hits the first enemy Hero in its path for high damage.
(W) Dragon's Breath
After 1.5 seconds, a rain of sand blasts the target area, damaging enemies.
(E) Time Trap
Place a trap on the ground. When an enemy Hero walks over it, they are Stasis'd for 2 seconds.
(R1) Slowing Sands
Conjure a field of sand at the target area, which Chromie can keep up indefinitely, to slow enemies that walk through it.
(R2) Temporal Loop
Target enemy Hero. After 3 seconds, they are returned to the location they were when you used this.

Chromie will be followed by Medivh on the week of June 14, who should be fairly familiar to Warcraft fans. Medivh is another mage character, with more of a support role - he can create portals for his team and become an invulnerable Raven. Here are his abilities:

(Trait) Transform: Raven
Using (Z) turn Medivh into a Raven, giving him the ability to see and fly over terrain. While in Raven form, Medivh is invulnerable and untargetable.
(Q) Arcane Rift
Fire off a bolt of energy in a line, damaging enemies in its path.
(W) Force of Will
Project your will onto an allied Hero, making them Protected for 1.5 seconds, preventing all damage done to the target.
(E) Portal
Create a portal at Medivh's feet and at the target point that lasts for 6 seconds.
(R1) Poly Bomb
Polymorph a target Hero. After 1.5 seconds, any nearby Heroes are also polymorphed.
(R2) Ley Line Seal
Fire off a blast of energy down the ley lines, putting any enemy Heroes in its path in Stasis for 3 seconds.

Check them both out, alongside some upcoming skins and mounts, in the video above.

Whadda you know? Two MORE WarCraft heroes...because it's not like WC already has more heroes than SC and Diablo combined. xP

And Overwatch and Blizzard Classic too. ;)

Anyway, I'm not complaining. It's to be expected that WC has more characters than the other medias, and while I'd like to see more balance, it's a fact of life at this point. Not to mention easier (e.g. how do you even make someone like Valerian a hero)?

OT: Chromie is cute, and I don't even play WoW. Whether she's psychotic like Brightwing remains to be seen. 0_0

I'll grant you that SC is a much more difficult franchise to translate characters into a MOBA, but they could do like they did with Sgt. Hammer and Lt. Morales: just give us some standard units and slap a name on'em. Give us a Firebat. Give us a Hydralisk. How about Dragoon Fenix? Give us the leader of the evil Protoss from Legacy of the Void! :D

Then there's Diablo which I'd say is actually on par with WarCraft in terms of characters that can easily be transferred. How about Mephisto? Or Malthael? Bring in some more classes from D2 since we already have all the classes from D3 represented. Imperius would be pretty sweet too.

I'm not upset at the heroes we're getting, Medivh has always been one of my favorite characters from WC lore and gnomes are always fun...even if they're really a dragon. I'm just saying I'd like some more diversity. :p

Hammer and Morales still grate me, in that plenty of named siege tank pilots and medics exist in the series, one of the former group including Duke. They at least gave them personality and backstory, and Hammer's even made her way into SC proper, but still...

I can get behind a Firebat (a canon one this time please), Fenix, and Alarak, not so much a hydralisk. It's already a summon for Zagara.

Diablo is similar to Warcraft in that it's a setting where success or failure is largely down to personal strength, whereas in StarCraft, a lot of it is down to tactical acumen - Arcturus Mengsk was one of the big names in the setting for instance, how he'd work as a hero I have no idea). But at the end of the day, Warcraft is much larger. I think it would be just as easy to make a Diablo hero as a Warcraft hero, but the supply of heroes would dry up much quicker.

You can see some gameplay with both heroes here:

Medivh - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DunY5JgzRo
Chromie - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRm_S-hTT6A

Medivh actually seem like one of the most unique heroes to be released since abathur/murky/lost vikings.
He is completely invulnerable and can fly over terrain while in raven form, making him the perfect scout, His Poly Bomb can keep going forever until the enemy heroes get far enough from eachover and he can create portals for his allies.

Chromie also got a lot of interesting mechanics. Blizzard seems determined not to make a single bland hero lol.

Who wants to bet that both these characters are from Warcraft the movie and are going to be tie-ins for the sake of said movie to sell new characters and/or skins? I know that it is fact for Medivh...but pretty sure Chromie will be too. Yep, they're going to make bank.

I'd be very surprised if Chromie is in the Warcraft movie, or any of the dragonflights in any character capacity, Chromie is a popular character and people have been after her for a while. If the dragonflights or even just Chromie are in the movie properly, it's been very well kept under wraps. Medivh is also a massive character in Warcraft lore, so him being put in HOTS is hardly surprising.

Get rid of that tinfoil hat.

What makes me upset is that they picked the most least interesting Wacraft characters (I am sorry but Chromie is lame) but Medivh is cool and has been a hugely important lore character.

But damn it blizzard give me much more sutible Warcraft chracaters like:

Ragnaros
Deathwing
Grom or Garrosh Hellscream
Varian and Anduin Wrynn
An Orc Blademaster
Cairne Bloodhoof
Maiev Shadowsong
A Dreadlord
Vol'Jin
Pit Lord
And a Goblin Alchemist.

I doubt the Alchemist is coming since we've already got Gaz representing the Goblins, word is that they actually do intend to introduce a Blademaster in the near future, and I certainly wouldn't mind having a Dreadlord to play as. :3

I was just spit-balling ideas with the Hydralisk. Seems it would be trickier to make a standard zerg unit into a Hero for this game. Still, would love to see Fenix and Alarak...especially if they get John de Lancie back in the booth to voice some more lines! :D

Oh I know full well that WC definitely has the bigger pool to draw from...just saying that we haven't tapped out Diablo or SC's pool yet, and we still get WC heroes almost every other time new heroes are announced. Let the other games fill in their roster to catch up a bit. As I said in my original post: WC already has more Heroes than all the other franchises combined. I'd like them to give us some more variety to even out the odds a bit more.

The bigger pool to draw from is precisely why it's Warcraft every other week though, otherwise you'd tap out SC/Diablos characters long before you'd run out of WC, and then it really would be WC Heroes for ever more.

From what I remember, Chromie is a little... not quite there, but that sort of comes with being a bronze dragon in Azeroth, since they're guardians of time and Chromie tends to see multiple parts of it at once.

Seriously when are we gonna get some of the Diablo heroes? Maybe Blackthorne? Seriously that would be awesome.

Odds are we'll get a Blademaster hero like WC3 Grom, and then have Warlords Grom, Garrosh, and probably a classic blademaster like Samuro as alternate skins

Probably soonish for Diablo heroes, since Li-Ming and Xul were released back to back, followed by Dehaka, followed by Tracer, now followed by Medivh and Chromie. As for Blackthorne, we know he's been discussed and concepts for him exist, but that's about it.

Za'muro was seen in early builds, so it seems likely he'll be in the game at some point. Grom/Garrosh would probably be different characters since Grom being a blademaster was more him being assigned the hero class in WC3 rather than being supported by his background, and Garrosh doesn't fit the archtype at all.

If we include ever character released so far, and lump Medivh and Chromie in, we have:

-Diablo: 12
-Warcraft: 26
-StarCraft: 12
-Other: 2

So, it's actually an even split. 50% WC, 50% composed of everything else. That probably isn't too bad a ratio.

I like the fact that the two aren't roled how I thought they were going to be. Would've thought Chrome as a support, not a siege assassin. And I though Medivh as a mage assassin, not as a Specialist. Both kits seem unique (outside of skillshot Q, lol) and look to be fun to play with.

As for characters from other titles, I think they said their pipeline for heroes was in the hundreds, so I'm sure the other titles outside of Warcraft will get their time to shine.

What I want is some Starcraft themed maps.

In terms of background, neither of them are, I agree. But in terms of movesets and style, I'd say they're similar, or at least made to be. Technically as long as they're both two-handed wielding warriors, the move set can be used with all of them. And really I still thought of them as similar, lightly armored warriors who live on avoidance and punishing offense with a giant blade or axe. As long as they use Pandaria/Cataclysm Garrosh and not Wrath Garrosh, they should be fine.
