This is true, terrible crap gets made everywhere, and Western culture is certainly not immune to this truism. But even relatively normal things from Japan still generally seem like the products of rampant hallucinogenic substance abuse to some degree, and the ratio of bizarre and perverted to "normal" tends to be a lot higher per capita.

Thus fanatical adoration of Japanese popular cultural products because they are from Japan is something I can't really take very seriously, knowing what I do about the products of Japanese popular culture.

Well, on the other hand, maybe the "rampant hallucinogenic substance abuse" is precisely what people find appealing about them. Katamari Damacy wouldn't have ever come out of the west, for example, and it was awesome.

Did anybody else notice that, after the gameplay footage, the female announcer looked just slightly uncomfortable around that guy? Like, not enough that it's overt but enough that it's noticable? It's as if she hadn't seen it when the background was black, but had by the time it was pink. I did, it made me laugh pretty hard.
