In other words, the more polygons you have, the more detail you can portray.
That's true, but it matters only on a technical level. Super Mario Brothers 3 still looks better than GoldenEye and you can easily play it today while GoldenEye looks like shit.

To me Diablo 3 and Grim Dawn both look good, while I like Diablo 3 art style more. If we can discuss anything on this matter it's our own taste, but we all know that's just foolish and leads nowhere.

I don't know what you mean by "cheap". Diablo 3 looks gorgeous to me, and it seems to have great production values: http://www.youtube.com/ForceSC2strategy#p/c/5C2F514ECED855CA/1/vbGeuFkZIMI
It really doesn't look any better than any other similar game out there like it. The first Torchlight and even Titan Quest both look about the same to me, or at least to the point where the differences aren't worth mentioning.

I agree Torchlight looks very good, but I didn't really dig Titan Quest's visuals. They seemed kinda "ordinary", especially at the beginning of the game. Diablo 3 has great effects and flashy abilities right from the get-go.

Like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byW9hDsBc6g

Watch at the 5:26 mark where the barbarian swings his weapon and the slight wind created jerks the curtains around. It's those little touches that give the game charm to me, and I'm sure D3 is going to be full of them.

Hey, that witch doctor looks pretty funky.

Too bad I can't play this game, as my internet is too unreliable.

Titan Quest is also five years old, so only having a few little spell effects over it in the visual department is rather sad for a new, supposedly AAA, game.

I haven't seen anything about Diablo III that's convinced me it's running high on anything other than nostalgia for the previous titles. I am just not seeing anything that objectively looks that impressive compared to other games out or soon to be. Especially when considering the fact Diablo III will come with a hefty price tag and always-on DRM that will make it unplayable to a lot of people, and a majour nuisance at best to others such as myself.

The character selection/creation screens are enough to see my point. The character models literally look worse than WoW's.
You must not play WoW.

Just as I thought. It's Diablo 2 with updates... and more menus. Because you know, I often find myself thinking, "You know what would make this game great? More menus!"

No thanks. It'll have been ten or eleven years (depending on if you count LoD) I'm over you Diablo, and I'm definitely over Blizzard. I can't be bothered to care anymore, especially not the one or two more years it'll probably take to be released.

I'm going to go play something fun now.

why are you so critical of the only vids being of menu's?

I dont want to see ingame footage and spoil the game for me, what I am interested in though, is how the UI looks and how easy it is going to be to navigate through my character catalogue, battlenet, servers, chatrooms etc, afterall once im at endgame this will make up alot of my time, if this stuff isnt up to scratch then endgame will have less appeal

I have seen loads of vids of gameplay, footage of the UI and menu's is pretty hot stuff!

I know, i need to get out more...

Yep, this still looks like a game I'm going to......completely avoid. I guess I'll just dust off my copy of Diablo 2, then. Maybe I'll finally get around to doing a throwbarb build.

EDIT: Turns out I managed to completely forget about a throwbarb build I started over a year ago. Don't worry Chukka, I'll level you up! I promise!

Ok, am i the only one who thinks Titan Quest which came 5 years ago looks better in 3D and makes a better Diablo than all the leaked footages we've been getting from the actual Diablo III?
Let me elaborate:
This!

Are you talking about the boring copy pasted terrain in Titan Quest? The vast expanses of landmarkless terrain? The fact that there is hardly ever more than a handful of enemies on screen at any given time?

How about the near lack of any feeling of progression throughout the game? How about the boring characters, boring story and boring skills that make up the entire game?

Yes that same square of stone that they've cut an paste throughout that entire dungeon looks just fine.

I've just seen it before.

I does look more "realistic", but to me it just makes it look a little washed out, somewhat bland, but again, it's a matter of taste again.

As for Hammeroj, yes, you are correct, it could look better, every Blizzard game released could have looked better when it was released, and it was always the same thing, style trumps detail. You might not like their choice of style but you can't really argue that's somehow a wrong decision.

As for realistic blood effects, you should maybe look at some Barbarian skill demonstration videos if you're into that sort of thing.

Eh, I'd say it's about the same level of graphical quality. Not that that is a good thing as TQ is like 3-4 years old.

Is it just me, or is the narrator really thrilled by the idea that "there's a logout screen, so you can't just leave the game instantly".
What the hell ? Did he just look at the number in that window ? 17 seconds to leave a game ?! I don't play MMOS, so I don't know how it's done in those games, but in Diablo 2, leaving the game got me out of some pretty hairy situations. Moreover, there isn't any actual reason for this, since it isn't, like, a huge server : it's a solo game ! (For me at least)

So, boys and girls of the escapist, what do you make of such a feature ?

I saw that before too, just everything to a much greater degree in a game called Diablo 2.

Of course I can argue it's a wrong decision to go with this style, but only because it's a sequel to a game series that already had an established art style. My biggest problem with this is it looks way too cartoony, and I honestly wouldn't have a problem if it was a new IP and not a game with a name stapled on it to make sure it sells well.
