MGS1: Why do people dislike the voice acting in Twin Snakes?

So I seem to notice alot of people dislikes this one aspect of the Twin Snakes remake. Now I get some of the dislike, such as the Matrix style action scenes and the music (but thats just personal taste and at least Twin Snakes kept "The Best Is Yet To Come") but whats the beef with the acting? I find it superior to the PS1 version. My problem with the PS1 version is that they speak their lines too fast, to give an example in the scene with the Darpa Chief when he says "Sweet Jesus" the Twin Snakes version gives him a moment to pause as if he was struck by realization, but in the PS1 version he just says it immedietly after Snake told him about the Terroist's plans:

PS1 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVdXcyxEqb8

Gamecube version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNRMJLdlTIY

This is just an example of many other examples I can show.

Also and this is just a minor gripe but I was not a fan of the "accent" Naomi and Mei Ling had. It just sounded dumb to me. And yes I know the actress for Mei Ling is of asian descent but she's still an american person, unless its an actress actually from China than I can accept the accent.

IMO, people were straw clutching for reasons to have TTS because it was "different" to MGS1. The hate boner for the game is especially weird since Kojima supervised it and approved all the whooshy cutscenes.

Also, TTS replaces MGS1 when it comes to "canon" voice acting choices.

Well, speaking personally, "hate" is too strong a word, but generally, I do dislike the voice acting. The accents thing is indeed an example - in the case of Naomi, Mei Ling, and arguably Raven, it comes off as comparatively bland. And even by Mei Ling's backstory, being raised in a country doesn't necessarily mean you'll adopt the country's mannarisms. For example, I was born in Australia and have lived there all my life, but thanks to my dad, speak with an English accent. And speaking of English accents, again, Liquid's accent also seems reduced.

On the other hand, there are some examples of voice acting that I do prefer, such as where Snake confronts Liquid outside the cockpit of REX. That, for instance, is the superior version in my mind.

So, yeah. For me, in both the voice acting and stuntwork, sometimes Twin Snakes surpasses the original for me, sometimes it doesn't. Even the stunts work on a case by case basis for me, whether I like them more (e.g. Snake fighting Liquid, or Gray Fox for the first time) and sometimes less so (such as unneccessarily flipping over the door of the hangar control room).

The only problem I really had with the voice acting was during the elevator scene where the stealth guards are with you, and Otacon's VA says his line with so much disinterest that it takes you out of the moment, whereas in the original it was a lot more convincing.

The voice acting in Metal Gear Solid had nuance, while the voice acting in Twin Snakes is more over emphasized in its delivery. And that bugs me.

I liked that the PSX version kept things relatively straight despite the gasmask-wearing psychics and giant robots. And then they have to go and inject all the current MGS nonsense in there. And yes, Kojima supervised it, but then he also made MGS2 and 4. He also retconned MGS1 to suddenly have Dr. Clark be a woman so that Para Medic from MGS3 could suddenly be a villain for some reason.

Twin Snakes just sucks, the end.

If retcons make you uncomfortable, you are going to absolutely despise The Phantom Pain, dude.

Also, word of warning - stay away from the MGS Wikis and such because trolls have been filling them with spoilers from Phantom Pain. A lot of people have been caught off guard researching MGS story stuff.

I've been staying away from EVERYTHING MGS5 related. I don't even wanna stare at thumbnails of reviews on Youtube for more than 2 seconds.

And what annoyed me about that retcon in particular was that Para Medic was basically the Mei Ling of MGS3 in all but name and race, but then she suddenly decides to torture Frank Jaeger and turn him into a cyborg. I mean, Big Boss losing his eye in MGS3 was also a retcon, but it doesn't completely change his personality for no reason other than having every possible character, no matter how insignificant, tie into the mythos. It just made no freaking sense.

1. Doctor Clark (Para-Medic) is still described as Male even in Twin Snakes.

2. Retcons are expacted when a franchise has been dragged on since 1980s. Its times like this I wish Metal Gear was rebooted to tell a more coherent story.

3. I still don't buy it because again the PS1 voice acting is too fast in its delivery. Like that flashback when Liquid is chiding Ocelot for killing the real Darpa Chief. In the PS1 version they all speak their lines too fast and too soon after one character says his lines.

4. I like some performanaces are better than the PS1 version. I think Campbell, Liquid, Ocelot, and Snake sound alot better in Twin Snakes.
