shell out that much money and deal with Kinect.
You don't need to "deal" with anything if you don't want to. The Kinect can be turned off and completely unplugged.

Removing the optical drive would only save you $10. If you stick a bigger hard drive in there to compensate, now it costs you more. The only place for cost shaving in the short term is Kinect.

Looking at your $100 boat anchor is still kind of dealing with it... though I guess you could stick in a closet and pretend it doesn't exist.

They better not have even been thinking of a disc less xbone. M$ might have got their heads out of their asses long enough to actually think about this one and not do something that would destroy the xbone's reputation. I know there's execs that would stupidly jump at the chance to milk their newly formed monopoly over anyone with a disc less xbone.

M$ does need to keep their heads above their waists long enough to realize the kinect and ITS extra cost is what's keeping the system with more exclusives from doing as good as it should be. Either that or someone needs to hack the new kinect to be used on PCs. I'm in no way interested in what games, TV shows, or services the xbone will offer in the next few years, but being able to sit cockeyed at my desk in a reclined fashion and wave my arm to switch youtube tabs in Firefox and the prospect of future neat pc things you could do with a kinect that M$ will never implement in a console would entice me to buy a kinect 2.0 off someone who hates paying $100 for chuck of plastic that will only collect dust.

Ok, it's obvious I need some sleep because I read that headline as "Microsoft Denies $399 Dickless Xbox One."
Gah, the mental image!

Although you could consider a disc-less Xbox One a neutered console, so maybe it does make sense.
The kinect is kinda the head of the xbone with the one eye and all, and xbox is known for it's extreme testosterone soaked frachises. Maybe an exec at M$ is chauvinistic and doesn't want a girly console, and he's crazy like Dr. Strangelove's General Ripper. That might explain M$'s refusal to drop the included kinect despite it being the next major thing needing fixing that the customers are complaining about after the DRM debacle and unplugging turning off the kinect.

And kudos to them for allowing for that. Still, I just can't see my way to paying the extra $100 for that bit of paperweight.

Of course, I will still likely get one in a year or two, once it's down to the $200-300 range. In all fairness, the only reason I even got a PS4 was b/c of expiring gift cards.

1TB of storage which is A HELL OF A LOT... and the same size as my Sky+ HD box.
haha no.
1 TB is not a lot of space.

He's right this time, but Christ, he's only saying that NOW because it was bloody obvious to everyone else ages ago. He's rjust parroting popular opinion. That's the thing about Pachter: the only times he's ever been right are when he's making statements that are so exceedingly obvious that even the blind would have the foresight to see it coming. In every other scenario, he's generally been pretty poor at his predictions and analysis.
and yet, the big companies spending millions on market reaserach got it right less often than Patcher.....

Discless would be fine, its no different to how you game on a PC.

i beg to differ.
Though admittedly less than 100 of them are gaming related. Mostly movies.

If you can't make your digital distro 'shopfront' a success in PCspace then you're fucked if you're thinking about trying it in Consolespace.
considering that console gamers pay far more for games (even at launch sometimes) currently i think there is a chance of sucess if you are brave enough to not be a lapdog to Gamestop and actually undercut their price.
