So it's not for core gamers? So it's for those people who already own a wii and probably won't be interested in buying another system And it's kintect device and the games for it? Kintect is going to end well for mircosoft. Also what I heard from spoony in his E3 coverage is that the kintect doesn't work. Like it doesn't work at all.

It's shaping up to be quite a disaster for Microsoft. Right now, if you would like to have a rational reason to buy kinect, you would need to fullfill these conditions:

1. Have a xbox 360
2. Have a Wii
3 Have already played all good / fun Wii games, really want to play more motion controlled games.

So if people were fully rational buyers (which unfortunately they are not) the kinect would hardly sell anything at all.

"Non-core" (aka casual) gamers do not spend half again as much as the console cost in the first place for a new controller.

Kinect is a solution in search of a problem. I'd love to be proven wrong. Innovative design driven by new human-computer interaction would be peachy. I don't see it happening.

That?s going to be the big problem isn?t it: it seems that the casual market is already satisfied. If they had managed to squeeze out these controllers while the wii was still hard to find (and that lasted a couple of years) they might?ve had a chance but everyone has a wii now.

What I want to know is why (if kinect isn?t intended for hardcore gamers) do they keep showing at e3? It should be a CES type thing.

Here's hoping they can convince enough of the crowd they're aiming this at to buy in at 5 dollars less than the already established Wii.

For just the kinect.

Oh thank god, I thought my reputation might have been in jeopardy for wanting one. Now I'll never have to suffer the retribution from the friends I don't have.

Core gamers continue to support the products and developers. They are where the money is at, and the ones that shell out cash regularly for games and accessories. Sure, casual gamers will buy your console, but they won't buy games for it; or at least not buy many. And certainly not at a frequent rate. Sit tight, folks. When Microsoft figures out that Nintendo has pretty much tapped the "casual gamer market" dry, Microsoft will come crawling back to us.

Don't worry. Those with more money than sense have always enjoyed indulging in trivialities that those of lesser means cannot afford. It's part of what makes you superior. Or in gamerspeak, "hardcore*".

*I think this might be the first time I've implied that motion controllers are hardcore, even ironically.

Only 3 games, one of which is on the PS3 and Wii?

So if 2 core games are the biggest year for 360 core gamers, then I really feel sorry for them.

Halo Reach is a core game?
Well yeah, the Halo brand has been with Xbox since the beginning, and is arguably why the 360 is where its at.
Grabbed by the Ghoulies came kinda early in the Xbox's lifetime.

Halo: Reach, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Gears of War 3 are the games they're counting on? Well they've lost me, those are all just rental games in my mind, if that.

Still wouldn't mind getting the Kinect if the price rumours are too high, but if it's as expensive as it sounds, it just doesn' look like it'll be worth the money.

That said, my Mum wants one...

I dunno, to me it just seems like people are willing to sacrifice any fun they could potentially have on the off chance 'someone' (don't know what kind of high traffic these people have in their living rooms) may think lesser of them? Economical means aside (although $150, my goodness), if I was given the chance to try one for free, I wouldn't object on the basis that I was too hardcore for it :p. Don't worry, I'm now off to play a miscellaneous war game so that my life has merit.

I don't think Kinect will do well at all. The way I see it is that a lot of Microsoft's target audience for kinect will already have a Wii, so what's the point in spending around £300 for something that they already have?

I fulfill all but #3. I don't want any more motion controlled games because I'm sick of smashing my hand against the wall and hitting people.

THAT, and the Wii has an internet browser built in, that by itself would make me buy a Wii more than a Kinect.

Well, I guess I should stop fussing about it now, right? I mean, that is why Microsoft is saying this, so gamers like me will shut our mouths about how stupid Kinect looks, right?

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to pick on Sony now...

At least there being honest about this. Though kind of obvious...

And calling this the biggest year for core games with only 3 games? Don't get me wrong I will play and enjoy them, but I've got a felling they're have been more better years.
It's actually only two games. Gears of War 3 will release in April 2011. A Mistake on their part.
