I love how they don't even think they'll sell all 2,500 sales to give away the points. Way to show support in your own promotion there, boys.

No. I'd rather spend my money on Steam...

Also wtf are "Microsoft Points" and can you convert them into something eatable?
I hate services that have a fake "points" currency rather than just let me buy the game I want at the price I want, like with Steam and Gog.com and so on. Instead they have to treat us like fucking kids. But it's all a ploy to milk a few more pennies out of us and make it fractionally easier for them to manage accounting wise (one big payment easier than many small ones)

PSN is little better, I bought a game on there that had a real price but when I entered my credit card and wanted to play JUST that only it said "wallet empty" and I could only fill my wallet in £10 and £20 increments

FFFFUUUUUUU!!!!!

I'm continue to be amazed at how incredibly far behind all the other gaming networks are. It's like they are being run by nickle-and-diming amateurs!

Screw consoles!
You can use your credit card normally on the PSN. You may have it as filling your wallet but I've always had mine just charge my credit card normally, there should be an option for that.

But I wholeheartedly agree, I've always hated the concept of 'points'. It makes people think less in terms of dollars and cents and it's sort of a scam to make you not think about the price of what you're buying. I only just found out that 400 MS points is $5. I don't really want to buy something from the store for just $5, since I'll have to buy something I don't really want, and get $5 to put towards something else I don't really want. Mmmhmm, no thanks.

Save $15 on a game you don't want anyway (ie, you save nothing because you won't buy it in the first place) or get $5 back on any game purchase. The latter actually sounds better if only GFWL had a decent selection to choose from.

So how do yo know if you're one of the first 2500 people?
My point is that 5 bucks is nothing for a "celebratory giveaway".

You know what they are doing? Exactly what you describe, FORCE you into playing more by makign it less convenient.

Steam goes the other way, making it so convenient for even the smallest purchases, I'm telling you I have spent a ridiculous amount on Steam but I was never forced to pay for anything that I didn't actually want.

I wonder if this promotion ends without all the points given away? Will they ever admit this?

Hopefully they will take it as a hint and drop GfWL completely, just release a patch for all their games to run in Steam or with no DRM at all. Kill it. Kill it with FIRE!

I've never had an issue with GFWL. I've got DoW and that requires GFWL. I entered in my gamertag and go. Y'all are complainin' way too much.

OT: Microsoft, if you want to win points (see what I did there?) with gamers, MAKE THE COMPETITION AVAILABLE OUTSIDE OF THE US. America is not a planet, there are other countries too, y'know?

Although I already own Dead Rising 2 and Fallout 3, I have considered buying them again for the PC. I was very tempted to get one of 'em from GFWL, 'cause free money is free money, but then I found out I'd still have to buy all the DLC separate. I am not interested in paying $80 for Fallout 3 (that's including all the DLC), considering how long ago it was released. As for Dead Rising 2, GFWL has it listed at $40 and 400 points simply isn't worth spending that kind of money on games that should be far, far cheaper than they are.

I love the ability to purchase digital copies of games, and the fact that PC games are generally cheaper than console games, but Microsoft rips you off left, right and center. I'll deal with it when I want to stream a movie or must get 'that new DLC zomg', but if I can help it, I'll avoid it.

GFWL got me Age of Empires 3 for 10MSPoints that I had left around from buying stuff on my Xbox, on the other hand it eats processing power like crazy and crashes anything it requires more often then not.

To the half dozen or so posts I've seen complaining about GFWL and the DoW series: Buy DoW II:Retribution. It is a standalone expansion to the game and doesnt require GFWL. You get more races, more maps, multiple campaigns, and no GFWL for ~$30.

Oddly enough the first thing I look for when I happen upon a game that is plagued with GFWL(ie Fallout 3, Dead Rising 2) are the programs that remove it from the game. The games play much nicer when they don't have that shit forced ran in the back.

My response to Micro$oft's attempt to increase sales for their GfW by giving you 5$ of Micro$oft points.

I find it funny that microsoft is attemping to "save" pc gaming at all. PC gaming is doing just fine, games for windows service just sucks. BTW, steam has made $1,000,000,000,000,000 in the last minute and a half :D

Games for Windows Live always used my xbox gamertag. It was one of the (many) annoying bits about the service, since I couldn't play two completely unrelated games at the same time, due to both demanding (on different mediums) to access my account.
Yeah, I know. I'm always trying to play 360 and PC at the same time, but I can't because I can't sign in to Live from both places at once. Also more importantly, I only have two hands, so I can't work a controller and keyboard + mouse simultaneously. So I guess it doesn't even matter that I can't sign into Live on my 360 and PC at the same time anyway because it's impossible to play both at the same time.

Seriously, the completely nonsensical arguments people will come up with to hate on something by Microsoft. Ridiculous. GWFL isn't the best thing ever, but my god people.
Actually, not being able to physically play both at the same time, doesnt exclude doing things like trying to run multiple games making use of things like the pause button.

I have times when Im playing an xbox game, and am invited to play something else on the PC by a friend, so simply press pause and go do so, revisiting it when time permits. I've had times when I've lost entire play sessions in games like Mass Effect because I havent given a second thought to the fact that a PC game might want to access my XBL account. And the moment it automatically logs in on the PC, it logs off the xbox. And if you know how the system works, that results in immediately dropping whatever you were playing, in a hard quit to menu fashion.

I've also been known to play arcade titles during load times, as well as messing about with computer games during looking for sessions on XBL. So just because -you- dont see a eventuality where you dont do more then one thing at a time, doesnt mean it should be outright dismissed as ridiculous hating on MS.

So yeah, just because it doesnt affect you, dont claim its a bullshit hate on MS, because I enjoy my xbox, I just dislike having that same -paid- account unavailable because Im using a -free- windows service.

Also if you want to throw some 'Do one thing at once then, problem solved' bullshit at me, I'll present it a different way for you -

Im playing a PC game. My little brother, who isnt allowed to have his own XBL account (because they cost money) wants to play some xbox online, and knows Im not playing it, because Im on the computer. When he asks me if he can play, I have to tell him no, because my paid XBL Gold membership, is being used by a free windows service, so he cannot play.

Making me tie up my PAID SERVICE with a free service, which then prevents me from using the paid service, is not good business. And to anyone who says 'Just make a different account on GFWL, duh' The games are already tied to it, since this is the kind of detail you find after setting it all up. And, pretty sure windows wants your msn emails anyway, which xbl also prefers.

Games For Windows Live is the worst platform in the world. Just trying to sign in so you can actually play a game is a nightmare
Oh, I know! You enter your Windows Live ID and password once, and then it signs you in. And if you check the little box to remember your details, it signs you in automatically every time after that when you launch the game so you don't have to do anything extra. How terrible! How inconvenient!

Seriously, the completely nonsensical arguments people will come up with to hate on something by Microsoft. Ridiculous. GWFL isn't the best thing ever, but my god people.
I'm glad the system works so well for you. However, in certain games, I am never signed in automatically no matter what box I check, my information is never retained no matter what box I check, the sign in process is excessively lengthy, and it always fails one or more times before it finally signs me in. And each time it fails, I have to reenter all my information. GFWL is the only program which consistently subjects me to this kind of hassle.

There are always issues if I attempt to use my Xbox at the same time as my PC, effectively forcing me to choose between one or the other. I'm not the only person who uses my PC and I'm not the only person who uses my Xbox. Maybe I want to play a PC game and use Netflix at the same time. There's no good reason to prevent me from doing this. It's not a matter of signing into both separately, the problem is that one will sign you out of the other. That shit is pretty fucking inconvenient.
