Microsoft Responds to New Xbox Rumors

Microsoft is attempting to quell rumors of a new upgraded Xbox that will ship next year, even as the rumor mill continues to churn out more speculation about a possible 3D-capable system.

Microsoft has responded to Eurogamer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92407-Rumor-Natal-is-Actually-Next-Xbox]. "We'll do the right thing for Natal."

Less disdainful for internet nonsense was Microsoft director of product management Aaron Greenberg, who had this to say: "I think part of the excitement about this announcement is that in many ways we are delivering a next generation experience this generation. With that said, I can confirm that Natal will run on Xbox 360 so no new console investment will be necessary."

No new console investment will be "necessary," but perhaps one will be available, and perhaps it'll be desirable? Greenberg's remark is a bit less clear-cut than the anonymous Microsoft source's is - he's saying you won't need a new Xbox, but he's not saying they're not making one either.

The original batch of rumors suggested that the new Xbox would feature some sort of upgraded hardware, but TeamXbox [http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/19960/Rumor-New-Xbox-Console-in-2010-We-Tell-You-the-Truth/] has now declared that this information is bogus. Rattling off his site's extensive credentials, TeamXbox's Cesar A. Berardini said that there will not be a repackaged upgraded 360, though there may be a version with built-in Natal hardware that will be distributed like the Arcade or Elite models.

As for more significant hardware upgrades, TeamXbox claims that Microsoft is biding its time, waiting for "a certain type of television becomes more widespread" because the next Xbox would have full HD 3D visuals "similar to 3D movie theatres." What kind of sets exactly do you need to pull that off? Because considering how long it takes for people to adopt new technology when it comes to their TVs, I could see it taking a long time.

Well, this starts to sound more plausible than a brand-new Xbox. An Xbox with Natal integrated could work.

I'll bet the whole thing is buggy as hell for the first six months or more. Milo will just sit there waiting for you to talk to him while you yell and scream on your couch and try to get him to respond.

And then you'll sigh in frustration and bury your head in your hands, prompting Milo to say something about fried chicken. You'll spend the next five minutes trying to figure out what he thought you said before popping the disc and loading up L4D2.

Give me a 3D touch screen that doesn't require glasses and then I'll start thinking about forking out some dough for a screen like this.

so what they're saying is ..... ummm ... nothing?

this is still something i'll believe when i see it. something says they might do a bigger upgrade than normal, ie changing the chip and mobo to fit new chip making processes and reduce costs. i know companies often do that without saying they have but i still think they've got something that will be considered a dick move up their sleeve

so i guess we'll just have to wait and see

Microsofts already said that you can use natal on an old console so this new aledged thing if probably just another elite, just a different colour with something different inside rather than more memory

The problem with Milo is Accents, a french one is going to be miles different to an americans, which on the subject this milo programs going to be on fifty dics to deal with all the languages its going to be made for,

That pretty much was the rumor for me. A "version with built-in Natal hardware" = new Xbox.

I love how they employed Peter Molyneux and then said "We'll do what's best for Natal"

"... so no new console investment will be necessary."

It doesn't mean there's not going to be another 360 coming out but then it doesn't mean there IS either. I'd be more inclined to believe they're not making a new one. Well not for release anytime soon, anyway.

Don't see why it really matters anyway. the only thing Microsoft have released/published is wind.. O hang on, even that doesn't work properly. But then again at least they?re not Apple.

Not really, Molyneux is passionate and brilliant when it comes to developing games.

On the flip side, he overhypes them so much that anyone who listens to them will feel disappointment more than fun. His big mouth is his only problem.

Update the hardware on the mobo a bit maybe a newer chipset at higher FBS you don;t have to do alot to get up to the PS3 range graphic wise.

Frankly I don't care what they do to it, I just want a blu ray drive and hardware based BWC. in it.

The only upgrade I'm interested in for my 360 is one that keeps the fans from roaring like a jet engine regardless of what I'm doing. Sure, it's fine for gaming at maximum volume, but if you want to play a game late at night with the volume low, or if you want to watch a movie on it via Netflix or other sources, the loud fan whirring is horrible.

There are few with more enthusiasm for his innovative ideas than me, but everybody knows that Peter is the definition of disappointment.
Read what I said carefully about wanting the best, you don't gamble when you want the best.
