Microsoft Says Jackson's Halo Project Is Still Alive

Lord of the Rings [http://www.microsoft.com] director himself saying earlier that the project had collapsed and was "no longer happening."

Halo Chonicles was intended to be an episodic addition to the franchise developed by Jackson's Wingnut Interactive game studio. Its existence was revealed in early 2007 but Jackson said earlier this month that when the Halo film fell apart, it took Halo Chronicles with it.

"That Halo project is interview [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93447-No-More-Halo-for-Peter-Jackson] soon after.

But Microsoft, for its part, doesn't seem to be quite ready to let go just yet. Like a persistent pet shop employee, the company issued a statement saying the game isn't actually dead, it's just "on hold."

"Microsoft Game Studios is deeply committed to supporting and strategically growing the Halo franchise, and our relationship with Peter and his team is something that we greatly value," the company said. "Given the bandwidth of both of our companies we've decided to put this joint effort on hold and prioritize resources against other projects like Halo Legends [http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/h/halo3odst/]."

An interesting twist, but it sounds like somebody's not telling the whole truth. Could it be that Jackson's mystery Halo project isn't quite as dead as he led us to believe?

It's cause Microsoft doesn't want the Halo fanboys to freak out when there isn't another Halo game coming out (despite Chronicles being a really stupid [say that like Yahtzee] idea in the first place).

Of all people, I think it's Microsoft who is changing sides. I think Peter Jackson was right about how the movie and chronicles isn't happening, but to make it look like the Halo franchise is never weak (as a canceled game could show a sign of weakness), Microsoft stated that everything is going just fine.

Yeah, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. It's like the mother telling the the child everything is alright after the father says that Santa isn't real.

Well you know what I say it's dead, what are you gonna do about that Microsoft?

I never really expected that this movie would see that light of day, but perhaps jackson was lying

weh, it can't be helped.
Microsoft is way too greedy to just let the series die though, keep that in mind.

Fully agree.
I think Jackson, at the very least, is done with Halo. MS obviously isn't though and is going to push for more, since so many people eat it up as if it was just released and hadn't had the crap milked out of it.
Does anyone remember Bungie "officially" and publicly stating that there would be no more Halo after Halo 3? Then they announced ODST and again, publicly said there would be no more Halo after ODST. Then they announced Reach and, once again, said it's the end of Halo for them.
I, for one, don't believe a word Bungie utters anymore about Halo. Until MS decides they're done with it, it will continue to be milked to death and utterly ruined like so many before it... Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Mortal Kombat, etc...

Halo (the games, at least) will only be ruined when Bungie lets go of it.

I am surprised no one is mentioning the train wreck of the halo anime....

Even if I love anime and have a low tolerance for the lulzy stuff it can do, its already making my brain hurt....

Halo can't be to bad as a film unless its done like Starship troopers,Doom,DOA,ect.....

Frankly I think it would be better if done as a CGI movie....

Halo 3 has already been ruined due to Bungie not supporting it because they're too buys making more Halo games and content.
There's a slew of problems that were introduced with the last TU. Some achievements are glitched now like "Headshot Honcho" and several of the skull achievements. Spawn calculation is totally broken (spawning on top, literally, of 3 enemies very often). Ranked games are ruined due to all of the secondary tags boosting to sell them.
All of these problems have been totally ignored by Bungie, they're just too busy making more Halo to care about the Halo that's out now. It's a classic EA, Activision, Ubisoft move that I never expected from Bungie. I have lost all respect for them and will not buy anymore games from them after they way I've seen them become.
They are no longer gamers, they have graduated with their Masters Degree in Accounting and have embraced their new title of "Accountant" with open arms while forgetting they were ever gamers.

As an anime lover I'm pretending this garbage anime doesn't exist and will never exist. Toriyama is a great director and Production IG is one of my favorite studios. I can't believe either of them signed on to do this. Everyone has a price I guess...

Halo 3 was ruined because they made it like Halo 2 with extras.....I care not for modern watered down corridor shooters with a MP focus....

Bungie is like any other dev they get to popular they stop putting effort into their products (ID,epic,Raven soft,ect,ect,ect)....

The anime looks like a train wreck story wise least what I can gleam from pictures I have seen, so far it seems to be generic anime space plot with Halo supporting characters 0-o

Misinformation and unwarranted anger. Just another Halo thread on the Escapist.

Anyway, media projects rarely die while the people behind them remain alive and in business. It's not unheard of for ideas to float around for decades before finally getting to the public. Thus it should surprise no one that the Halo movie and Chronicles are only on "indefinite hold."

Like i said before, there playing on the name of Halo, like Treyarch did with CoD4: Modern Warfare, all the casual gamers got CoD5 and pretended to love it because there friends did, the only thing that worked on CoD5 was Nazi Zombies, i have a sickening feeling in my stomach they will do the same with Halo.

That too.

Very true, forgot about Epic and Raven.

Yeah, I just don't see how you can go from making Ghost in the Shell to making a Halo anime. I'm disappointed in Production IG to say the least. From what I've seen of the anime, from pictures and a trailer, it's horrendous, or as you said, a train wreck.
Honestly, I'm going to have to watch an episode, or at least part of one, just to see how horrible it is.

Really? I thought this was dead a long time ago. I can't imagine it being good anymore. I still have hopes for the Gears of War movie though. What a fool I am...

Ya Epic and Raven have died and gone casual I would still geek out over a new hexen game even if it was made for console noobs.... *sigh*

Like film its all in the story, if they have a story that plays out well it should be good but if they pull a Macross frontier where the gimmicks are the focus(lolis,Slice of life, haphazard childish romance) and not the war and emotions surrounding it,action, ect

And yes I am a SDF1/Gundam00 fan :p

Well colour me confused. I wouldn't have minded seeing the movie and Chronicles probably would have been decent enough. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
