Okay, ripping the LAN cable out of my xbox now...
Haha - Its best to leave any cameras unplugged anyway. Ive seen what skilled hackers can do with cameras.
So that's how those videos of me picking my nose made it to youtube! Scandelous!

ON a more serious note, considering they justy released this statement saying that the connect will only learn abotu how you play and not be used for marketting data, the world can sue them if they try now!

No, then theyll just blackmail everyone with their secret supply of "Marketing Data".
We wouldnt stand a chance!

Or you know... Play naked in any sense in front of the Kinect

Okay, I'm convinced that this is how Big Brother implements the telescreens now. I mean seriously, a wall-mounted flat panel HDTV with a camera that senses almost everything in the room? and now has possibilities for surveillance? Ring a bell?

Oh yeah, sure thing Microsoft, I'm going to believe that the multi-billion dollar corporation attempting to plant a camera connected to the internet in every American household that it feasibly can does not have ulterior motives...

What next, are they going to come out and say that the Kinect doesn't have a lens that can peer into your very soul? Ha!

Ah well, I guess I could always be more concerned, like if Apple was in the same position. *shudders*

Microsoft has issued a statement saying that it isn't using Kinect to collect information about users so that it can personalize advertising content.
Because flat out denial of an accusation is sure way to prove you were never thinking about doing it.

Did that ever work on your parents? Sure didn't on mine.
It's like the guy in the movie that is dressed in all black, sports a Snidely Whiplash moustache, and tells you every five minutes that he's "totally not evil, you guys".

Rats. I was rather enjoying the idea that the idiot who played Dance Central played Dance Central naked would get some clothing ads or maybe some nice weight loss ads or something. Stuff to humiliate him further.

Well considering souls aren't real, they don't really have to say that.

They wouldn't. If they did, they'd get found out, it'd be a PR disaster and they'd get sued to high heaven. As the article already says: They can use your gameplay and download habits anyway. That seems a better method of collecting data on preferences than spying on you, surely?

Gee, with that kind of statement out there, now I'm not even sure if I trust them to make kind of statment of denial.

All iPhones and iPod Touches now have a camera on both sides. How do you know they're not recording their customers every minute?

I guess we're going to have to get the government to ban all cameras now. We can't trust anyone anymore.

I was thinking of that, but fortunately iPhones are presently only damning AT&T users. However, iTouches pose the biggest threat from Apple because they've managed to possess 80% of the country that they all need the newest reiteration of the bloody things, lest their genitals magically disappear. But hey, at least we don't have to worry about Skynet-esque, electronic spying from Microsoft music players or phones! Who the hell has those?!? :p

It will boil down to various Skynet-aspiring factions vying for control of everything. Microsoft will use Kinect to invade the home; Apple will use the iTerations to conquer much of the music scene, Facebook and Myspace will wreak havoc with regrettable pictures taken before blacking out, and Google will use our browsing histories to overthrow all.

This. The fallout of such privacy invasion would destroy Microsoft. It's simply not worth it to try to pick up a few advertising bucks.

someone, anyone, anyone at all, tell me of a single personalized ad (such as the many on teh internetz) thats ever positively affected your opinion of the product. cause honestly, the best experience ive had with ads is complete indifference, and at worst boycotting the product for the sheer reckless douchebaggery to play an audio ad while im on a webpage.

i really, really, do not understand the advertising industry; at best, the ad is for a product i already buy on a regular basis regardless, but most of the time the sheer stupidity and annoyance of the ad will greatly reduce the likelyhood of me buying it.

the free internet and tv channels is nice and all, and is definitely worth sitting thru a few ads; im not complaining.... i just cant understand why companies so doggedly try with such vast sums of money to do absolutely nothing to influence me to buy their product. can SO MANY people truly be so much more easily influenced then me? my opinion of the general public is pretty low, and even i cant believe how most ads could actually be worth it...

these people willingly paid for kinect, yet realize the potential for a company to bombard them with ads and speak out agaisnt it...it just doesnt add up.

Well, it's time to take off my clothes, find a kinect, and masturbate furiously. That will make Microsoft think twice about stepping over the line with privacy.
Play Uno or Uno Rush sometime honestly has happened more than a few times with people on their Live Vision Cameras, has bloody scarred me!

"Hey dude let's play a game of Uno... Oh look someone joined, wait, why the hell are we looking at his... why is he.. ARRGH, DASHBOARD, DASHBOARD!!!"

On a more positive note however, what the hell do you think they can actually get from Kinect about you? About the only thing I can think about that would be useful is using the Speech Recognition system to monitor conversations for keywords, but hell they could've done that before anyway. Facial Recognition? How will them knowing what I look like help them with anything? Oh I know they can spy on what is within the view of the Kinect... which given you need about 6ft of room to use means it is in the living room, so it'll have a lovely view of the couch and wall. So they'll start showing you adverts from DFS and Deulux?! lol

Seriously the damn thing can't even get your height right, so if they ever wanted to find me they'd be looking for a 3'8" Midget with a deep voice and an creme colour fabric couch. Ut Oh! lol

Oh god and if they were trying to tailor adverts based on conversations, I'll end up bombarded with with such random things... I mean a conversation I had the other day was about how Pandas just need bad 70s porn music to get the horne. Would hate to think what kinda adverts Kinect would cater from all that. lol

May as well do so now, Microsoft. You've just put it in the heads of everyone too trusting to assume you were doing it anyway (and you totally are).
