Wii? The "Family Entertainment Center" idea is the line that Sony has been pushing out for the PS3 under its "It does everything" slogan. Hell if anything the Wii is the one that is only doing games (and netflix) now even if they for the most part are third party shovel-ware games for everyone (all gaming platforms have this problem, always have, but that's another topic for another time).Azaraxzealot said:*Facepalm*
NO! YOU DON'T WANT TO BE A FUCKING WII!
On topic: All of the systems are designed to do whatever marketing says will sell well and push more consoles. The 360 had already sold all of its consoles to gamers, now it is simply trying to expand some more. A little bit of advertisement truth stretching may be needed here and there but it doesn't mean they've forgotten about gamers or that it wasn't really designed to play games. Of course it was.
You could also take into account the different stages that the 360, and any game console have. When he says "designed for the family", he's talking about the new 360 the one with Kinect. He doesn't mean the old 360 that used a controller to play games, he means the new slick black 360 with the hands free super camera controller and dance central, voice controlled video menus and Facebook.
He wasn't lying, from a certain point of view. Advertising BS, no doubt, but not lies.
Except for those motion controllers that are supposed to be coming with Portal 2, right? Those will never catch on being sold with such an unpopular game from an disreputable and unloved designer. Oh wait..Sixcess said:I'm starting to wonder if the consoles intend to whore themselves out completely toward casual gamers and the suddenly all important family audience, starting with the Wii and now with Move and Kinect.
Thank god I'm a PC gamer. At this rate that's going to be the last refuge of gimmick free gaming.
Hell, PCs have always been a casual market, a huge one. They were the casual market before consoles even tried. "Why buy this such-and-such for [price] when I can get a computer for the same and do so much more on it?" And that was before Facebook.
