Okay, so going to his house and strangling him would probably be a poor idea, but I certainly wish there was a button to smack these kids across the mouth sometimes. Maybe it just needs to record their dialogue and send it to their parents. Then again, considering they're 13 playing a M game online and mouthing off, I can only wonder how much of an effect that would have. It comes back to that old standby, the parents, and their inability to...parent.

Still, not an appropriate response. People need to learn to enjoy their games. If competitive online games are too frustrating, don't play them, you're defeating the entire purpose of playing a recreational game.

Ironic the amount of internet tough guy posturing in the thread; I'm sure all of you routinely backhand crying babies in restaurants, shove cellphones down the throats of people using them during a movie and shiv rude clerks at the supermarket. God help anyone who cuts you off in traffic, that's when you break out the C-4.
There is quite a gap between general annoyance and vindictive personal verbal abuse.
Or let me put it this way, this 13 year old walks up to you on the street and proceeds to insult you in the typical XBL fashion (raped your mom, fag, suck my dick, various racial slurs,...), how long before you loose your cool?

I'm deeply curious what exactly the kid was saying.

However, even if the kid may have deserved it, there are much better ways to go about it.

For example, find the phone number and tell the mother what the kid was saying. Or, if you have to go to the house, go to the mother first and describe the situation. If it's done in the least-creepy manner and to someone that can legally hurt the boy, then all is good. You can spend the rest of the evening imagining the boy's tantrum as the mother takes the system away from him, or any beating that the boy may ensue.

Sounds to me like the law is handling the case well thus far. I hope the guy gets a fine, some community service, and maybe a handle on his anger issues. I'd say something about not being allowed weapons, but he's in the UK. Already done.

Well I hope that guy has a long time in prison to consider exactly how much of a faux pas attempting to strangle a child is.

Everyone involved in this incident is fucking stupid.

.The 13 year old kid shouldn't have been such a douche (If you're about to say
something to someone online that would get you punched in the mouth if you said it to their face, don't say it).
.The fully grown man needs to go to a few anger managemant classes (strangling a small child isn't cool man).
.The kid's parents should not have let the him play an 18 rated game!

Finally, accountability.

Yea yea the old man should've been more mature blah blah. But it's always great when people learn the hard way that being on the other side of a screen doesn't make you safe.

I'm still waiting for my "Fist through the monitor" update.

Mute. It's there for a reason. Or he could just leave the lobby for another one...

The man is clearly at fault, but I can't say that I haven't thought about various "inventive" ways of making annoying children be quiet, but then I remember that online I can just mute people (unlike real life >.<).

Sooooooo, why does a 13 year old have access to an M rated game? The guy should have stormed in and throttled the mother for being such a shitty parent.

So, 13-year-old kid playing M-rated games at his friend's house while his mom is watching? Because the story says that his mother got in the middle of the hazzle and pulled the man away. Let me ask you youngsters since it has been some years since I was a teen: when you go to your friend's house, do you take your mother with you? Very unlikely. Also the mother should be fined for allowing her underaged child play video games that are not suited for children. People like her are the reason why we, game devs, get the crap every time some genious decides to blame video games for whatever negative happening in the world.

Here's my verdict:
1) The man: A slap on his wrists and a big no-no for assaulting helpless loudmouthed brats. Also 1 month or game therapy and holding back from playing any competitive video game.

2) Teen kid: A good old slap in the head a couple of times to get some sense and good behaviour. Being teen does NOT allow you to act like a retard, no matter what the situation. Also, ban to all games that he is underaged to play. Breaking this rule will result in severe consequenses.

3) The mother: A fine of 300 dollars for every single game that she has bought and allowed her child to play that are M-rated. Also, a special fine for going to the kid's friend's house with him. Why you may ask? Because a) that is simply lame and b) being there and failing to prevent her child from playing said game(s).

First off, to all the people who are saying that 13 year olds shouldn't play M rated games...how old were you when you started playing M rated games? If you were under 17, aren't you being a bit of a hypocrite?

Secondly, how the hell can you justify a man breaking into a kid's home and strangling him over trash talking on a game? You're probably the same people who think it's all right for gang members to bash someone for insulting their girlfriends or whatever.

I'm not saying that the kid didn't deserve a good slap upside the head. That would have been awesome. Or just letting the kid know "I found you. Others can too. Watch what you say." But strangling him? Reminds me of the news story of the guy in Canada who shot a driver with a crossbow he had in the trunk because the victim cut him off in traffic. Bet you guys think that was funny too. After all, if he didn't want to get shot with a crossbow, he should have driven more respectfully.

Is this really news? Like fucking really? This is kinda like celebrity gossip. Shit that has nothing to do with news but people try to claim so.

I don't even have anger issues but when I play an online game I give no room for idiocy, the moment you appear to be on the lower end of the maturity level, you're /ignored. Playful fun is allowed but genuine idiocy, so ignored :)
