So I just recently got Steam and I was wondering if you guys can help me choose shooters that are good and cheap(besides TF2 and the half life series I will get those when I get a better PC), my limit is $30.

So what shooters are good on steam? And should I buy the Deus Ex collection or only the first one?

So you want suggestions less hardware intensive than Valves games?

Buy the first Deus Ex, pass on the second unless it's dirt cheap. It's a shell of the first one.

Left 4 Dead 2, if not that then Killing Floor. Check them both out. But either way Deus EX is an incredible game.

Only the first one. If you don't mind a dated ui :)
A giant shopping centre still has a deus ex 2 official guide (new).
Killing floor is a nice "indi" coop shooter little polish but the guns feel great and you use ironsights for aiming.
But its not for everyone, pretty special game. 19$ i think.

By the sounds of it you want easy to run ones.
Counter Strike/Counter Strike: Source if you're into that kind of thing.
Day of Defeat/souce basically WWII counter strike...
First Deus Ex is awesome.
Dawn of War if you're into strategy.
etc.

I think he means that valve games are the best ones when it comes to being tweeked for performance.
Half life 2 manged to look gorgeus on my 700 mhz pentium with no real graphicscard. For the time that is :)

I'm not sure if it is more intensive on hardware or not (it runs better on my machine than HL2:E2, you see), but F.E.A.R. and both of the original expansion packs are on in a combination.

Only $20 too.

Steam actually lets you search specifically for cheap games - on the Store page there are two buttons (right-hand side, under "Community Activity") for games less than £7 and £4 respectively (or whatever is the equivalent in your local currency I presume.)

As for recommendations, Call Of Duty 2 is on Steam and is still pretty great by today's standards, unless you're completely sick of WW2.

I personally enjoy Blacklight: Tango Down.
It's great, but the main problem is the enormous amount of spawn trapping in team based games.

Search for the Valve Complete Pack on the steam store. You get something like 22 games for £50 (most of which are FPS games).

Alright stupid question(and I know I will be crucified for it), but can I play shooters like TF2 and killing floor with a 360 controller? Im just used to a controller than a keyboard really, and I already have the software and the wireless receiver for the controller.

I would think you could. I'd also think you would be at a distinct disadvantage but it's certainly your time and money. Do whatever you enjoy.
